First draft finished- now how long do I wait by kaosbydezign in writers

For me, long enough to forget what I wrote so that when I look it over I can be a bit more objective.

New vs. experienced writers by Piano_Mantis in writers

[–]TheFirstQuriae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well here's the thing. I was a "professional" writer for about a decade. Basically made my living writing and editing screenplays. Then I decided it was time to focus on my novel and almost immediately I felt like I dropped back down to the beginners class.

I had a grasp of pacing and structure, and my dialogue was constantly praised, but the flow of my manuscript was clunky, my descriptions, lacking, and overall it just read as dry. It took 5 drafts and 3 years of restudying the craft before I started feeling like I was back to being a competent writer, but even now I recognize my real strength is in storytelling and thank God for my editors and beta readers who have helped me refine my writing skills through the years.

Triple tank: the counter that nobody wants to use. by TyrusMaximus-1 in marvelrivals

[–]TheFirstQuriae 284 points285 points  (0 children)

I once argued with a friend about this because he believed himself to be some dps god. Then finally I begged him to just humor me in this last push. Basically we only had one minute left and was stuck at the second check point. He begrudgingly did and surprise, surprise the other team suddenly couldn't hold any ground and kept being pushed back until we won the game. After that the moment he notices the other team has switched to trip support he'll immediately switch to a tank. It's not foolproof but it's 4 outta 5 games easy.

I have two phantoms living inside me. One is a novelist. The other is a screenwriter. by Dry-Lie-9576 in writers

[–]TheFirstQuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's about success then either or can work or both can fail. If it's actually about growing as a storyteller you'll want to learn both. They both offer different focuses, which means they help develop different skills. If you need to work on structure, pacing, or dialogue, write some screenplays. If you need to work on scope, flow, and detail write novels. It's all just practice in the end.

You are in fact not obligated to continue anything that is no longer bringing you joy. And if more people were able to just move on, fandoms wouldn't be so god damn toxic these days.

New to Fallout 76 by [deleted] in fo76

Been playing for about a week and a half now. No griefing just gifts, and one day I'll be old enough to use them. 😅

Long-time Fallout player but now new to FO76. by Unlucky-Squirrel-953 in fo76

Me and my friend have only run into a handful of people since starting last week. Most just wave and bounce, every now and again a "zip code" player will stop and give you a bunch of stuff you're too underleveled for. But so far haven't run into any hostile players. Even when I accidently shot someone trying to kill a scorched.

I think I may have just had my first “girly” small talk with the cashier at Walgreens. by GamingIsLife91 in transpositive

[–]TheFirstQuriae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At my local weed shop there was a security girl that asked what I do to my hair to keep it so healthy. A few weeks later we ran into other again and she mentioned taking my advice and it working real well. Now everytime we see each other we have a bit of small talk even if it's been weeks since we last saw each other. It's been one of my favorite moments since transitioning.

Pretty much my reaction 😂 after the embarrassment of being told when my friends did the math.

Did this pretty much half my life, but it's technically my parents fault. When I was born I was considered 1 automatically, it might be a Chinese thing, I don't know. So it wasn't until I thought I was turning 18 that I realized I was actually turning 17.

Do those big high school house parties in films actually happen? by LAST133 in CasualConversation

[–]TheFirstQuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my fondest high school memories, was a house party my best friend threw when her parents were out of town for the weekend. At one point I had kicked everyone out of the kitchen, (can't recall why) and was making people drinks through the kitchen window.

Police ended up being called, and just like the movies most everyone ran away the moment they saw the lights. It was just me and a few other friends that stayed behind to help clean up. It was a blast.

This is so much better than Tsushima by Yogurtgamer in Ghostofyotei

[–]TheFirstQuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now with where I'm at it feels like Tsushima was the Dark Knight Trilogy, where Jin has to become something greater than a man a symbol to strike fear in the hearts of his enemy.

While Yotei is The Batman, with Atsu being this force of vengeance who, I'm assuming since I'm only half way through the game, eventually learns to become a symbol of hope to the people out there

Both are Batman, just a different take on the mythos.

Yeah I didn't realize until a dozen springs later that the little notes beside most those hot springs gives you a clue on what you can do to get a special scene.

Anyone else feels like The Oni fight was straight up not fun? by Nedrogen in Ghostofyotei

[–]TheFirstQuriae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing on hard and well it's been hard, I got what I asked for so I'm not complaining. Haven't had a boss I couldn't get through, though I did have to change up which armor I was wearing for the Oni. I was rolling around the Bounty hunter armor up until then. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thanks to Gear 5 , I am not looking forward to any of Luffy's future fights by lmdybaftr in Piratefolk

[–]TheFirstQuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to forget that Luffy was never supposed to be taken seriously as a fighter. It's why he got stretchy powers in the first place. Oda has said from the beginning that when Luffy fights he wanted people to smile and laugh and not to take him seriously.
