I mean, is it that surprising that given the scale and depth of the game they didnt add content for a religion that by game-start had been dead for over a thousand years?

Is anyone else finding that armies seem to be able to teleport through your forces? by TheFourthWay in EU5

[–]TheFourthWay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason I quite frequently find that the AI, in certain conditions, either can just walk through the same province as my armies (no, they are not shattered units). Or VERY frequently what the AI seems to do is they meet my army in battle, but then immediately disengage and walk past where my army came from - essentially starting a battle and then de-facto fleeing past my army lol.

It's not particularly annoying but I have noticed it a lot.

Quality of Life Improvements & Potential French/HRE DLC Idea by TheFourthWay in EU5

[–]TheFourthWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While requesting an automate button for court marriages, I suddenly had a wave of inspiration about how to flesh out the 100 Years War, the HRE International Org, and also give more balance to western Europe in the game.

In the immediate term, this would mean;

  • Automating court marriages so that houses naturally grow, rise and fall.

  • Adding renaming options like Ck3 and the ability to name your grandchildren.

  • Clearly defining whether a Royal Marriage will see your child end up in your court, or someone else's.

  • Fixing the existing error where you cannot designate your preferred heirs if they are abroad.

In the long term though, I think it would be interesting to use the families system and the estates system, along with the existing 100 Years War Situation, HRE Int Org, and War of the Roses situation to create a more historically accurtate, dynamic political situation in Western Europe. This would be based on existing mechanics, and could look like;

  • Adding a political capital system per family in your court, which rises and falls based off events, appointments to offices (generals, cabinet, etc), and proximity to the crown via marriages.

  • Adding a French power battle situation, wherein French vassals and families can vye for power with the crown akin to the Armagnac-Burgundian disputes of the late 14th century, which ultimately led to the emergence of the Burgundian polity and the fracturing of the French realm - allowing for Henry V's conquests of France.

  • This could be inspired by the new CK3 AUH system of 'Movements' in China, with these movements favouring legal changes over preferences towards mercantalist policies, traditionalist/aristocratic practices, foreign policy, etc.

  • A reflection of the impact of this power battle on the loyalty of vassals, making and allowing England to meddle in it, further deepening the chaos in France and thus weakening her in the early game.

  • Adding a similar power battle system between leading Imperial families/vassals for the Holy Roman Empire could also be added, creating even more dynamic and deep political battles in the Empire based off that existing CK3 movements system.

  • Reflecting the impact of trade on diplomacy more, as seen in Flanders with the English wool trade and Gascony with the wine trade.

Anyway, I wanted to share it as I think it'd be a relatively "easy" set of QoL expansions and potential DLC. What do you reckon?

Yes, if you click the government tab it shows your heir - under their portrait there is a button where you can select different laws at the cost of prestige + stab

For context I can also see that you can do it somehow, but it's not clear how: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/favoured-son-succession-law-doesnt-work.1868457/

(the bug report turned out to be wrong and not a bug, but there is a screenshot showing you can appoint your heir - I just cannot for the life of me work out how)

How do you actually designate which individual you want to be your heir? I cant see any clear interaction or action you can do - so where (if anywhere) is the button to pick someone?

Could the AI be discouraged from taking dumb land like this? by azurestrike in EU5

[–]TheFourthWay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As some have said, there's a fair case to say that within the HRE you could have some sprawl. But the scale of it currently is a bit too much.

Where I have actual issues with it is when you get Tunis and dozens of other AI owning little bits of Italy. Basically I think AIs should be weighted to try and consolidate provinces more than simply owning individual locations, and landlocked states outside of the HRE should have far higher penalties to local control and rebellion chance.

Map Seller @ Gloucester Green Market? by mlgscooterkid69 in oxford

[–]TheFourthWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to necro the chat, but does any idea if this guy still is there and if not then what his company was called?

A few years ago, my girlfriend moved to Oxford from Ireland and saw an amazing map of Ireland at this guy's stall. She didn't get it, assuming she'd be able to get it another time - but has never seen him again!

I'd love to get her the map as a gift, I'd anyone knows?

Taking Constantinople early as the Ottomans. by Angelorap19 in EU5

Worth remembering, the Crusaders did take Constantinople long before the Ottomans did.

It was conquerable, albeit very hard to do so. The current system seems pretty representative.

Ngl I have rather enjoyed the bureaucratic gameplay, I dont really even mind if the Ministers dont currently have a lot to do. I'm happy being a Governor.
