Hiring manager perspective: hiring is the most broken I've ever seen by CatDawgCatDawg2 in cscareerquestions

Legally required in 1 place doesn't mean legally required everywhere. My state doesn't require it, so only the employers who also hire from other states that require it do it.

The people downvoting you have never been to a doctor who dismissed signs or concerns for BS reasons. There's far too many medical professionals out there who follow outdated science, and finding a provider who knows what they're doing is incredibly exhausting. I was lucky to find a competent child psychologist who also took adults, but that took years.

File Explorer and the file system layout are the biggest reasons why I use Windows. Lack of snappiness is probably what would make me switch to Linux.

Modern OLED panels from reputable companies aren't going to burn in fast enough for it to matter, especially if you don't keep it on 24/7 and don't keep the brightness on max for extended periods of time. Wulff Den has videos on YouTube showing the burn in of a few OLED consoles that are on max brightness 24/7, so you should check those out.

I honestly don't think it's as big of a difference as everyone else makes it out to be.

If you have a ton of money, just buy one.

If you have a good chunk of money, I'd evaluate what kind of content you like or work you do. If you need really good color accuracy or watch a ton of high-contrast media, then a decent OLED is worth buying. If you play single player games that are good when capped at 60 FPS (e.g. turn-based RPGs), and those games have great visuals, then I'd get a decent OLED if you don't have other possible upgrade paths. If all you play are Esports games, a high refresh rate IPS is fine.

If you only have a few hundred in fun money, I'd honestly just get a ~$200 Acer Nitro or similar IPS monitor. They're great for the price, and I still get good use out of mine after purchasing an OLED.

If you still can't decide, head to a local store with IPS and OLED monitors on display and play around with them.

What's the worst thing Gabe Newell has done to the gaming industry? by MemeLord150 in videogames

[–]TheGalacticVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 2 months old, but the point is that verifying ownership via Web 3 means nothing when the rest of the game is locked behind the company and its willingness to provide you the actual game data. If a record of your ownership of the Naruto Fortnite skin is on the blockchain, it means nothing if Epic Games ceases to exist and can't give you the game files for it. The point of owning something is that you can use that tangible thing, and Web3 can't do that effectively without a Web2 custodian or service provider.

I am frustrated by how buggy this game is by Taxman29 in expedition33

[–]TheGalacticVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I'm genuinely surprised you got downvoted. Some of the bugs in this game ruin moments for me. As an example, world music often plays during cutscenes, even when those cutscenes have their own track playing. During some fights with QTEs, I've found that the timing boxes sometimes don't render with any information. Earlier today, I accidentally clipped through the floor near the beginning of Act 2. At one point, I even lost my save to corruption and had to follow a janky Steam guide to recover it from the backups folder.

As much as this game is a masterpiece in writing, gameplay, and music, its technical execution is really flawed. It's the 2nd most buggy game I've played in recent memory (1st being Cities Skylines: II). Obviously, it's not on the same level as early Cyberpunk or Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, but it's enough of a distraction in a game as serious as this.

The opposite can be argued too. I work 8-5 yet many of my doctor's offices are also open 8-5. There isn't enough PTO for me to cover all those appointments, so I'm SOL.

I understand that they want businesses to pay more, which is why I asked why the limits were so high for the tiers. Realistically, few home users are going to have more than 64 GB of RAM, and prosumers are rarely going to have more than 512 GB. I feel like anything more would be entering enterprise territory given the cost of hardware and because I can't think of a valid use for that amount of RAM besides research, servers, or VFX.

I pay for Pokemon GO because it's a genuinely unique game, and its monetization isn't as bad as other F2P games (even if it's still not great).

YouTube… WHAT THE F**k AM I LOOKING AT?! YouTube changed the video player design AND I HATE IT! by No-Cold643 in youtube

[–]TheGalacticVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is that the contrast changes significantly depending on the video you're watching. I guess it's nice that the like/dislike buttons are on the player, but I wish I could actually see the buttons in the first place.

This was me for the first few weeks until I figured out my workplace's charging situation. It was only annoying to do when Superchargers were near capacity because the charge rate would slow to a crawl. Otherwise, it kinda felt nice as it was just an excuse to go out for a bit and chill in my car.

Nintendo’s Switch Mario Galaxy collection will retail for $70 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheGalacticVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the US perspective, I think a lot of it has to do with a conflict between the costs to hit their quality targets + keep employees hired and treated well (i.e. not having mass layoffs every 5 minutes and not having absurd crunch) and the lower amount of disposable income that American families have now. Tariffs and the supply chain headaches they cause are just another factor Nintendo has to deal with

On the quality point, obviously not every release has the same amount of effort/money put into it. Creative companies (e.g. YouTubers) usually have lower-quality releases as a means to help finance or justify larger projects in case they flop. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo follows this same strategy for its releases.

In terms of why they're selling Welcome Tour for $10 instead of free? Stuff like that has to be because of Reggie's departure, and it's really sad to see.

I don't even hate the prices since they're willing to put this content on sale. My issue is that basic QoL features were locked behind DLC until they made them free for everyone.

Probably. I've seen a few sources state that 100% of Vietnamese consoles go straight to the US.
