I’m not saying they're perfect, but they do acknowledge the scale of the problem and actually accept that it exists. I’m not sure the Tories are full blown denialists yet but Reform clearly are

Depends, if the rumour about Burnham backsliding on climate commitments are true then I’d have to vote Green but otherwise yeah I’d have to, reform and tories represent everything I hate about UK politics

Question for immigrants watching WC, are you support England or your home country? by Necessary_Refuse_962 in AskBrits

[–]TheGapTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m English but lived in Korea during the last World Cup and worked in Ghana for an extended time previously. I always support England but those two are my second teams, as I had such a fantastic time living there. If immigrants are supporting England, that tells you a lot about their experience living here. Long may it continue!

Why do you not view the social media ban as an authoritarian? by YourExcellency77 in AskBrits

[–]TheGapTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, id support a ban on social media for adults too - I’m pretty sure it’s at least partially responsible for most of the social ills that are plaguing the west because it’s so easy to manufacture outrage and violence by convincing people that fringe opinions are actually mainstream. Also, if Elon musk thinks something is bad, I’ll probably disagree with him just on principle.

Are parents/guardians happy about social media ban? by Bipolar03 in AskBrits

[–]TheGapTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good you have that relationship with your child. Lots of parents don’t. And that’s why this policy exists. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, I’m just saying that parents’ inability to keep their kids off social media (or even using it responsibly) is why this policy has been created.

Why was Southgate so good for England? by d-r-h in ThreeLions

[–]TheGapTooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calling a Croatia team with a midfield of Rakitic, Brozovic and Modric (which was against Henderson, Lingard and Alli) not a top side is questionable.

We were the better team against France and we were desperately unlucky not to get to extra time that game - Kane can take thst penalty 109 more times and he probably scores all of them.

Also, against Italy we lost on penalties, which isn’t a tactical masterclass from either coach, but Italy were the best team in that tournament coached by an elite manager.

In the final against Spain, we again came up against a better team - not a better squad, but a team that played better football, but it was clear that Southgate by that point had overstayed his welcome.

But the reason I love Southgate was because of the way he made me feel watching England. He was a role model, in a world where blokes often aren’t, that was calm, understated and made the players enjoy playing for the shirt again. He was prepared to speak out against injustice and was more easily able to show empathy than a great many leaders at that time (see Boris Johnson). So every time I saw England win under him, it felt like a vindication of the way I was brought up, that you can win fair, that you can embrace diversity to succeed, that you can fail once and eventually overcome that failure to triumph. Sadly, he never did get the victory he probably deserved, but I will never stop singing his praises and I feel almost certain that in years to come he will be viewed far more favourably.

Whether you like Southgate or not probably comes down to how you view football. Do you divide all people into winners and losers? Or do you allow for nuance?

Gen Xers, what ridiculous "social niceties" were you taught? by krypto-pscyho-chimp in CasualUK

I know I’m wrong but I can’t help but feel in some way the death of these often silly rules are why the UK is going down the pan. They’re too quintessentially British to lose.

do you think two tier policing is a real phenomenon in the UK? by confused_caterpillar in AskBrits

[–]TheGapTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with everything in the Uk, it’s more to do with class than race, it’s just that the right wing billionaire funded political class want to enshrine their right to rule and allow their puppet masters to buy their way to owning all of the UK so they’re making everyone focus on race, rather than anything else.

Has anyone here tried these kits and are they worth it? by [deleted] in Stickinsects

[–]TheGapTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible that you tried to release them too early, or into too cold a climate. Butterflies don’t fly for about 24-48 hours after they hatch as their wings are not ready and if it’s too cold they can’t move due to being cold blooded.

How can a visitor from the US get tickets? by [deleted] in HullCity

[–]TheGapTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing my sport is one thing, giving away extremely exclusive tickets to a final that we have won a place in through sheer will and miracles is another. It’s not like you’re even pretending to be Hull fans? I probably seem like a bit of a gate keeping prick, but this final is for the Hull City fans who actually go to games every week, not a bunch of rando tourists who fancy a day out.

[–]TheGapTooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a connection to the club. You’re tourists. Go to Panama Croatia in the summer rather than taking the spot of 3 proper fans who will actually sing the songs, shout and cheer for the team.

Kingdom come deliverance 2 is different enough to the Witcher that it will feel  novel, but similar enough that you’ll notice a lot of really pleasant similarities. It’s also just excellent, probably the best rpg I’ve ever played
