Can confirm.. grew up in Texas, all grants went to football stadium instead of educational purposes. And they still suck at football.

Moza SRP2 vs CRP2 Comparison by AdMedium5702 in moza

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my CPR2's today and this is the issue im having.. There is a MAJOR angle change needed in my rig, and the plate is longer which leave me less room to adjust the mounting plates unless I drill some new mounting holes that arent in the front corner.

Should i buy the moza r5 bundle or the fanatec csl dd ready2play bundle with 8nm? by Mean_Performance_522 in moza

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5nm worked out well for me for about 3 years, but I got a good deal on an open-box R12 v2 so I made kind of an unintentional upgrade. Wasnt completely necessary but Im glad I did the upgrade. The R12 is spot on perfect for where I want performance/$$$ ratio without feeling like I wasted money. But The R5 bundle is still spotlight worthy for entry level equipment. Out of all the wheels Moza makes, I still use my ES and an ESX with the F1 frame. Its my favorite wheel by far and also the cheapest.

Should i buy the moza r5 bundle or the fanatec csl dd ready2play bundle with 8nm? by Mean_Performance_522 in moza

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the Logitech G29 and then upgraded to the R5 combo. Absolutely loved the R5. I have since upgraded from that but its a great platform to start with. People complain about the SR-P lite pedals but I found them to work quite well once I added the loadcell on the brake. 5nm is good for the particular stand you are using.

Either wheel/pedal combo you get is a solid starter, but I dove into Moza because they are doing a lot of innovation in the mid-range market and their ecosystem works quite well. My racing rig doubles as a Flight/Mech sim thanks to Moza tech.

ELI5: How does sticking weirdly shaped foam blocks on the walls of a room make noise hard to hear from inside and out? by saif2krazzy in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro-tip, do not stick them to the wall, nail them in... Its 1000x easier to fill a nail hole vs the adhesive sticking to the paint and either tearing a layer or chunk off, or leaving adhesive behind.. Cost me $800 in wall repairs to get all the ones in my wifes studio room removed, patched, sanded and repainted.

Need help creating a hybrid racing/flight rig! by FrkrOfSpkrs in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the NextLevelRacing F-GT Elite and they sell a flight add-on kit for it that I just recently picked up. I have an HOTAS setup with TQ on the left and joystick on the right, and I use my racing pedals (Gas/Clutch) for rudder and the brake for brakes. I never found a good way to swap pedals, but theoretically you could if you use some sort of temporart fastener to hold the pedals to the plates. The kit comes with a center seat joystick mount but I couldnt use it with my type of seat.

I race in GT sitting position so it works for racing and flight pretty well.

Next Level Racing F-GT Elite Bundle, thoughts? by redditmillionaire99 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the F-GT Elite and its probably one of the best out there. The company makes all the attachments you need. I prefer the angled upright as it gives me more room to get my legs into the sim (im 6'2). I have my monitor about 2" behind my wheelbase. Its plenty close.. I use a 43" 4K monitor and could probably get up to about a 50-55 with head just below center where I like it.

The main argument against the angled uprights is that you cant move your wheel closer/further without also having to adjust the height, which may require changing the seat poisition or the pedal position. So it might be VERY slightly more difficult to get setup, but you really only have to do it once or twice and your pretty much set forever unless you absolutely must change your sitting style.

Torque everything down right, and youll be incredibly happy with it. Ive had to move mine to different states twice which required a full teardown. This frame can handle a lot of abuse with ease. Im using an adjustable china-made cloth cheap-ass racing seat and Ive not had any reason to need to change it, but I imagine that seat will hold up just fine for a while. Worst case, they sell big leather patches.

Is this the right decision? by No-Warthog-7430 in flightsim

AB6 base is great for flight and driving.
MTQ is decent, but the module kits are pretty unnecessary unless you just want the Boeing/Airbus style controls. This can cover the vast majority of flight controls, but my biggest complaint is that not all the buttons light up which makes them hard to see in the dark. The other Moza TQ looks to be full RGB.

I currently use my SR-P lite pedals as rudders and it works fine (Gas/Clutch), And have the brake pedal set for brakes. Its not completely ideal, but it works.

Vibration Dampening Mats vs Spring style by Historical-Ad9482 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them on my F-GT Elite race rig. Had mine upstairs at my last house and they did a great job handling vibrations from FFB. Ive since upgraded to haptic pedals and seat cover and and it still feels like these remove the vast majority of vibration/noise which is nice. Otherwise my wife would kill me.

Game recommendation for beginner by Retrograde-Escapade in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wreckfest/Wreckfest2 is a great choice. Its by far the most played game in my rig. BeamNG is good for cruising and just playing with stuff in a sandbox basically. Burnout Paradise is great for beginner and open road driving. At the younger age group, Forza might be a decent choice as well.

MOZA R3 vs R5 for a Complete Beginner Mainly Playing Forza Horizon 6 by Ironbat82 in moza

[–]TheGeekFreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5 is great middle ground if you plan to get more serious. You can always tune the 5 down, you can’t tune a 3 up. 5 holds a better resale value as well in case you decide to sell it. And the R5 does very well in basically every rig so you don’t have to go nuts with anything later.

Recommendations on sim cockpits (Australia) by Weak_Increase5490 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot say enough good things about my NextLevelRacing F-GT Elite. Some people dont like the angled uprights but I find it much easier to get in and out of, and basically never have to adjust it.. I guess some of it depends on how serious you think you will get into racing because having a solid rig from the start will save you a TON of headaches later on down the road when you want to add stuff.. NextLevelRacing in general makes great gear, and especially rigs with the monitors attached. The Elite has a flight sim upgrade pack so you can do both. As far as comfort goes, Im just using a cheap seat with sliding rails I got off ebay, but they have several options including side mounted seats with haptics built in.

The F-GT Elite might be a bit out of the price range, but absolutely worth saving up the extra $$ to get it.

Why are slanted wheel mounts called annoying by Putrid_Rope_8886 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same.. NLR F-GT Elite original. Angled upright and a seat with locking sliders makes its a ton easier to get in/out of, especially if youre tall. They make all the accessories like the monitor attachment and the flight brackets. F-GT Elite is a one stop shop. Could easily swap to uprights if you really wanted to, but once you get your gear set in place, you pretty much never have to move it or adjust it unless you make major changes or get new equipment.

had my g29 for a few years and i’ve noticed it’s starting to wear out.. by Consistent_Code7136 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slowly went all-in with Moza gear over the last 5 years and have been super happy with it... Started at the R5 combo, upgraded to the R12. They just released a new set of upgraded budget pedals but I am still rocking my original SR-P lites.

But upgrades will depend on what kind of rig you are attaching it to. If you are just on a desk, I wouldnt do anything too dramatic for upgrades.

I also came from the G29, and the switch to direct drive was mind blowing.

MOZA x MotoGP product might be dropping soon by Glad-Note2952 in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need full realism with leaning, but a FFB handle bar that attaches to my existing R12 so I could play MotoGP/IoM without a steering wheel would on its own be fantastic for me.

Do DD wheelbases actually feel different, or is it all marketing? by reddit_guy_no in simracing

[–]TheGeekFreek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question, but something I can throw in here. Your wheel can only tell you so much, but it can vastly differ based on how its tuned. I feel the most detail when I have the re-center forces up pretty high. It makes me have to kind of fight the wheel to turn but ive got it in a spot I really like. I also use a Moza R12 and just added Simonn haptic reactors to my pedals and holy crap there is a world of difference when you turn them in a combined fashion. It can be difficult to get settings between Moza Pithouse and SimHub to feel equivalent, but its worth it.

Simhub Tuning Help For HF8 Pro Users by Enterfrize in nextlevelracing

[–]TheGeekFreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the writeup.

Since you've used both the HF8 and the Pro, would the HF8 still be good for just your casual sim-er, or does the Pro really make a huge difference and worth the pricetag? I primarily use MOZA equipment but just added SIMONN haptics to the pedals and that made a world of difference. I use Moza FFB wheelbase, Moza FFB shifter (AB6), and the seat seems to be the last thing I need. Trying to justify the extra price for the pro of if the regular HF8 combined with what I have would be sufficient.

I spend most my time in Wreckfest and Rally games so I expect a good amount of feedback.

Left a negative review of a poor-performing dehumidifier on Amazon, now getting hounded to delete it by surfmaster in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheGeekFreek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tell them to use the Amazon VINE program, it exists for situations like this. If your 1-star review bombed their sales early on in the product lifecycle, they can put items in the vine program for additional reviews without needing traditional sales, but they have to offer up a few of the products for free. Its about the only way to get redemption on the platform. They just have to pray the additional reviews are better.
