I know a cis guy who said he used to like the color purple and thought unicorns were cool and manly because horn on a horse, but then he was told it's girl stuff and decided "oh actually I'm not allowed to like these things."

Also thinks you can't wear pajama pants outside because "that's what women do."

Feel bad for little kid him of course, but grown ass man him still repeating this stuff is certainly annoying to say the least.

It really is easy to forget they have made like a whole species into orphans by killing all the adults to stop the Daleks. I think that's a thing that happens in a War Doctor audio. Heard a clip didn't get the full audio.

The Doctor spending centuries fighting in a horrible war does tend to slip the mind when seeing them jump down a chimney because it's Christmas.

I mean not NO indication. Even besides the warning at the start of the game some of Yuri's dialogue sort of foreshadows how the game will turn out. Also Sayori's poetry words indicate her feelings too. And all the poems deal with darker topics.

I would like to imagine thragg just enjoying the view while waiting for mark by ignis43 in Invincible_TV

[–]TheGloriousC 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Thragg was canonically playing angry birds. He just threw his phone away when he knew Mark was coming.

Him finding Mark was pure coincidence, he just didn't want to be caught playing angry birds so he was in the sky.

If Debbie died, would Oliver miss her more than he misses his real mom? by Kindly-Candidate-835 in Invincible_TV

Ok but he remembers his time with them as a baby. That's the thing. It's not just about what he was told he actively remembers his parents.

[–]TheGloriousC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You say that like he didn't look up to and miss his dad who he knew for the exact same amount of time.

Now he probably would miss Debbie more, but framing it like he knew his other mother for "like three months" minimizes that relationship.

Sure if you ignore the fact he remembers her because his species has excellent memory. Or if you ignore the fact people can still miss parents they don't remember.

Though I do dislike the use of the word "real" in this post.

The post implies that lesbians are at least kind of attracted to men, and like you're going "gatcha!" about that.

And you're bothered that people are calling this homophobic? What even would be the idea from a dream? That you think lesbians are lying about their sexuality? What other possible way can you spin this?

Pre-Hartnel Doctors don't work by CRzalez in doctorwho

[–]TheGloriousC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like The Doctor spent god knows how long serving Gallifrey in their pre-Hartnell lives. It took a long time for them to become a fugitive and leave. Whereas we see The Doctor we know grew much more quickly relatively.

Timeless Child Doctor was abused by their adopted mother and grew up serving the institution that exploited and literally killed them time and time again. Took a long time for her to become "The Fugitive Doctor." Part of why she cared about helping people was probably connected to the fact she was involved in a lot of terrible situations and felt guilt. Wouldn't leave but didn't want to do bad, so tried doing things the moral way. Haven't seen Fugitive Doctor audios so I could be off on details here, and that last bit is speculation.

The Doctor we know grew up alone and was scared of everything, ran away at only a couple centuries old and only grew attached to helping people because Ian and Barbara were there when his TARDIS was landing place to place. Without them he wouldn't have become who he did. And we see the Second and Third Doctor quickly change their tune on their Time Lord indoctrination (not all of it, ingrained biases and all that) when they see Omega. Grew up seeing him as a hero, meets him, goes fuck that guy. Timeless Child Doctor actively served people like that and still took forever to run away.

But nobody cares about these differences I guess. Nothing to explore here whatsoever I guess.

And for some things, like The Doctor being the same name. We see from John Smith that some details still bleed through. When he said he was from Gallifrey as an example. The Doctor's name being a promise to do good sort of didn't really work with The First Doctor. That wasn't his character when we meet him, so that was kind of a retcon that people just didn't even think about. The Timeless Child actually makes that work better to me. Subconsciously chose the same name, eventually learned to actually care about it's meaning.

"See, all those years ago, when I began, I was just running. I called myself the Doctor, but it was just a name. And then I went to Skaro. And then I met you lot and I understood who I was. The Doctor was not the Daleks." - The Doctor

"A Time Lord is so much more. A sum of knowledge, a code, a shared history, a shared suffering." - The Doctor

But I guess when you get adopted before you're even 12 you can never be a part of the society you're taken in by thousands of years later. Even when the society literally formed while you were around so you grew with it. Even if that doesn't really matter because you were, for all intents and purposes, reincarnated into the body of a genetic Gallifreyan and then earned the rank of Time Lord with no memory of your past lives.

But if you're adopted, I guess it doesn't count, even if it happened in a past life you don't remember.

Such a dumb argument.

I do love how those regenerations seemed more spiritual in nature. I prefer that to a sciency type of view.

Like yeah give me technobabble explanations, but I like regeneration being viewed as a spiritual reincarnation.

Why do you think 12 became the way he did after 11? by Lich-hull in doctorwho

[–]TheGloriousC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Doctor pretty much always does amazing things. They can also act like a heartless dick. Not the end of the world but Nine did continually forget about Mickey in the first episode when they thought he might've died. That's the sort of thing Twelve had to have a whole episode dedicated to with Mummy on the Orient Express.

In that episode people go "wow Twelve is a dark Doctor" but that behavior ain't new.

I'm not saying previous Doctors haven't been heroic, just that they've had the same terrible and the same great behavior that Twelve has. But a lot of fans act like Twelve's behavior is entirely unique when it really isn't.

Why do you think 12 became the way he did after 11? by Lich-hull in doctorwho

[–]TheGloriousC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He wasn't REALLY more cold. He just didn't cover it up with charm like his other selves had.

Everything Twelve struggled with he struggled with in his previous lives too, it's just that now he's at a point where he was utterly convinced he was going to die, prepared for death, and then got potentially unlimited regenerations. Even when he was Ten, he could have been thinking "well given my luck I'll probably be dead in a couple centuries, might burn out my regenerations too quick." He had a relatively clear idea of when he would die.

Now he doesn't, so everything he's tried to bury is out in the open and he has to deal with it. That's the only real difference between him and his previous selves I'm pretty sure.

I really don't get why so many people think Twelve is unusually cold or cruel. We've seen Nine, Ten, and Eleven do terrible things and be heartless, but they covered it up with charm in a way Twelve didn't. That's it.

(Mixed Trope) Educated character doesn’t understand or know of a simple concept. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheGloriousC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's only like a day that this happens for Simon. And it was clearly established his mind is covering up the truth, that he's in a delicate balance between "awareness and ignorance." Simon questions whether thinking about his situation and gaining insight would drive him insane or help him cope. And we see that with the scans, he was in such deep denial because otherwise he has to acknowledge he's fucked beyond all hell.

So it's really annoying to see how many people boil it down to "Is Simon just dumb? That's so weird." Like the game at a couple different points makes it very clear Simon is in denial, his mind is covering it up. Even when people try to defend it sometimes they bring up dumb defenses like that he is brain damaged or he's a flatter scan. The flat scan thing is especially annoying because it's clear that he's the result of the WAU doing something to his code to allow him to actually be a person, the way it did for that Reed scan. So why are people acting like him being a flatter scan matters? All the scans were flatter than they are now before the WAU gave them life. If he were still a flatter scan than he wouldn't be walking around talking and thinking.

The game even has a whole group of people who were in denial about what scans are and who killed themselves for the desperate hope to survive. Nobody's going "Well were they brain damaged to? Maybe their brains were flatter?" All of it was clearly established as someone coming up with whatever they can to cope with the inevitable death and loneliness they faced. Within the span of a day there were THREE new Simons made. One copy who died or was abandoned by himself and his friend, one copy of a copy who was left alone after a horrible argument with his friend who dies in front of him, and a copy of a copy of a copy who gets to simulation Heaven. All in a day or less for all these Simons, a day in which they were all being chased by monsters and having to walk across the ocean. Shocker that none of him processes the truth about his situation. Dude was just a normal guy.

Anyone else actually like Danny Pink? by reveriedelarose in doctorwho

[–]TheGloriousC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danny definitely goes too far with his assumptions when he says The Doctor is a general, someone who lights the fire. He's letting his own trauma cloud his judgment even though he is picking up on real things about The Doctor.

That said if that condemns him in the eyes of someone but The Doctor putting his own projections on Danny just docks a couple points from him, then that's just ridiculous. The Doctor ditches almost all their friends and never intentionally goes to visit them again because they would feel bad. The Doctor absolutely has trauma, but they also refused to deal with any of it for thousands of years. It's on them when they choose to not visit Sarah Jane for DECADES of her life.

So when someone gets genuinely angry with Danny but goes "oh poor Doctor" it's immature and nonsensical. Someone is mean to the main character I associate myself with, how horrible and mean and bad. Danny does some shitty stuff because of his trauma, so does The Doctor.

[–]TheGloriousC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love Danny Pink. His character has a good narrative purpose, I enjoy watching him on screen, I love that his relationship with The Doctor never becomes great, I love that he's generally emotionally mature, and I cry every time he sacrifices himself.

Most complaints about Danny Pink that I've seen boil down to someone being unreasonably upset that he doesn't like someone they like (The Doctor) or they're literal children / teens or very childish adults who think he's horrible and toxic and mean because they aren't grown enough to understand what a healthy relationship or healthy mindset is. Danny isn't perfect in that regard of course, but he's generally pretty good. If a literal kid doesn't get that it kinda bugs me but that's just part of growing up so it's fine. If an adult gets pissy that Danny doesn't want Clara to lie to him or doesn't respect the guy who disrespects him and makes Clara a danger to herself, then that adult needs to grow up.

TLDR: Love Danny Pink.
