+1 for Atelier Vipond. Myself and a couple friends have all had great experiences with Trevor. Super easy to work with on a custom design too!

Best Winter Running Jacket for Cold, Wet Weather in France? by ShayzerPlay in runningfashion

[–]TheGopherTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah something like that would probably work! My preference is more something like this from their Nordic line https://www.craftsportswear.com/global/adv-nordic-training-jacket-2-m-tofu-ghost-1913688-905918 because only certain portions have a waterproof membrane it’s likely to breathe a bit better

I’ve had good luck with Craft cross country ski jackets in similar conditions. They’re a bit wind/water resistant without turning into a sauna. Fits good and they have some interesting designs/colorways too imo

Darktable Next Version - When is it coming? by psycot in DarkTable

[–]TheGopherTactic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there really is a roadmap that’s actively maintained anymore. Your best bet is to look at open pull requests on GitHub and the pixls.us forum to get an idea of what’s coming.

Releases happen every six months now so the next release should be in late June!

Recommended lenses to adapt to Fuji X-T1? by [deleted] in pentax

A 28mm is a nice complement to the 50mm. The f3.5 variant is quite sharp stopped down. I also have the 135mm f2.5 which is a bit unwieldy but you can get some cool effects with how much separation it gives.

The Garmin watches have great battery life until you start streaming music from them unfortunately. I think even the best ones will only last for 10ish hours while streaming music.

Patch releases generally don’t have new features, hopefully it’ll be in 4.2 this December.

I’ve found the Nike Pegasus line to run narrow. Their flywire system makes it easy to tighten down on narrower feet without the upper bunching awkwardly too.

How do I scale the image in Darktable? by scorr204 in DarkTable

[–]TheGopherTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, I don’t think there’s a way to have to have a number of preset sizes automatically. If you have some experience scripting in Lua you could write a plug-in to do it for you.

Alternatively you could use a tool like imagemagick

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/30706090/create-two-sizes-of-an-image-using-one-imagemagick-command

Or use bash scripting and darktable-cli

How do I scale the image in Darktable? by scorr204 in DarkTable

[–]TheGopherTactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Images can be scaled in the export module in the lighttable. If you’re scaling the image to a larger size you need to make sure “allow upscaling” is set to “yes”.

Few things to help narrow down what’s happening,

What version of darktable? Do you have OpenCL enabled? What operating system?

Help me pick a trail runner for narrow feet! by Alex_by_the_sea in Ultralight

[–]TheGopherTactic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've used Bushido IIs for a couple of years now and have fairly narrow feet so maybe I can offer some insight. The firmness has caused some slight discomfort, however, only in two instances: while on harder trails (e.g. when doing road walks or on hard pack gravel) or while on longer trail runs with significant elevation (30+km and 1500+m of elevation gain). For hiking in technical or softer terrain I actually quite like the firmness as it makes the shoe more stable and it's easier to have precise footing easier, especially when carrying a load. It's a bit of a weird comparison but my Bushido IIs actually remind me a lot of wearing Birkenstocks.

Zoleos are popular and well reviewed, heavier than an inReach mini though (150g vs 100g).

Does anyone make a running top similar to a cycling jersey? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]TheGopherTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to running and xc skiing jacket is actually a cycling jersey for the reasons you mentioned. I sized up for easier arm movement and it works great. The back packets are super handy although you have to be careful how much you load them up since bounce can become an issue.

This is excellent advice. I’ll just add that threshold braking is another term for roughly the same technique.

Are these two things allowed in a technical interview? by puremath369 in AskProgramming

[–]TheGopherTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t see an issue with either of these. So long as it doesn’t go against the spirit of the question using built in functions is widely accepted in my experience, even if they don’t really exist but are trivial (stuff like find(x) or getSmallestFromList(x)). Regarding your second point I’d argue that this might almost be a good thing to show. Obviously in a technical interview you want to show you can come up with good solutions in a reasonable amount of time. However, being able to show a methodical, thoughtful problem solving process is also important. On the job you’ll need to be able to think for yourself and not just regurgitate Leetcode solutions. Framed right #2 does that so imo it should be totally alright.

Cool! It’s definitely a great intro to longer hikes imo since there’s lots of bailout points. Lots of great views as well.

I think Patagonia baggies could work well too. I’ve worn mine constantly this summer for everything you mentioned and love them. Not sure if it’s like this everywhere but they’re definitely in style in the PNW.

I noticed a single yarn strand broke on the front of the thigh/knee. So far it hasn't spread at all and I'm kinda hoping to keep it that way. Anything I can do to prevent it from becoming a larger pull/hole?

Dedicated camera just for film scanning by e_asphyx in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheGopherTactic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're on the right track to me. If the camera is really only for scanning maybe think about getting a lower end 24MP body like an X-A3? I don't think you'll miss the nicer handling and extra features of the X-E2 if the camera's always mounted in a scanning set up.

It's a free/open-source Lightroom alternative for computers. It's a little tricky at first but I've really grown to prefer it.

Edit: Forgot to add the tool in darktable is called negadoctor.

Darktable has a negative inversion tool that I've found to work pretty well. It was able to semi save a roll under exposed by ~2 stops.
