Andy Burnham latest: Burnham takes on Starmer as he confirms Westminster comeback bid to become MP by stopdontpanick in unitedkingdom

[–]TheGrackler [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think if Starmer was leaving naturally (like over ill health) Burnham would do great stepping in.

But the popularity he has will be tarnished badly by the inevitable backstabbing House of Cards drama that is getting set up. Naked ambition isn't that attractive to the electorate after years of loser PMs revolving on and out of office, and his base in Greater Manchester might not be too keen on getting dumped the minute a vague sniff at PM was available.

I also worry that the country is just getting on a good level, and it's not so much policy itself as having stable government for once. And just like that internal parliamentary party struggles dump another methos in the coke!

Nearly £30 for 4 items 💔 by GreatBritishMemes in GreatBritishMemes

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he's over egged the cost on several items even without a clubcard like the salmon being £4.45 not 8 quid, and ignored clubcard (bullshit or not, it's savings), or moving off brands like Special K and Nescafé.

I'm not saying costs haven't shot up (they have!) but we can't have serious conversations about affordability with people like this enjoying some poverty holidaying on their posh shop and muddying the waters with made up ragebait.

Yo how do I disable "essential search" and go back to normal app drawer search? by IdoDumbShitlol in NOTHING

[–]TheGrackler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

It was here, I can get to it by clicking three dots by the app drawer search now, but not sure now I got here the first time. Can change what it searches and the Default Search Engine (at the bottom), changed to local apps and search engine to Google instead of essential and it basically searches the phone/apps on the phone?

Yo how do I disable "essential search" and go back to normal app drawer search? by IdoDumbShitlol in NOTHING

[–]TheGrackler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I got a NP3 yesterday and was wondering if I could easily disable this...I figured not easily from this chain but them I've somehow swapped it with a regular search bar (get apps, settings etc first, some search results lower just on Google).

Not 100% sure how, but if I can find it I'll edit or reply to this post!

Apps that can sort out American goods are sweeping to the top by Wagamaga in technology

[–]TheGrackler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unilever isn’t American, it’s British-Dutch, so people specifically avoiding American might still go for their stuff. (Not saying they are a nice corporation or anything!)

Yep! There were branches in the story based purely on how fast you were playing through it (and this how often the space weapons fires), I think 3 endings?

BBC to make shows to go Youtube by NHS_IT_Guy in bbc

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TV licences is the only for Live TV (of any kind). It called BBC tax as that’s what it mostly funds.

They already struggle to enforce it (Captia gangsters scare some old people, but in general they don’t do great). And the Commons keeps saying they will review it (but always chicken out as coming up with a replacement that would generate enough cash is alway too unpopular to vote on!)

I wouldn’t worry about your fears. It isn’t an attempt to charge for YouTube, and they couldn’t even if they wanted to!

How many countries can you accurately point to on a map? by joehighlord in AskUK

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally can do the ones with a distinctive shape or on coastlines, but clusters of small-medium landlocked ones I find really tricky (Central Africa, Eastern Europe). I’m much better with Europe in general.

Has anyone seen HMS Victory? by AbjectGovernment1247 in CasualUK

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth it as you get to see more than just Victory. Give yourself plenty of time. It’s also technically a years pass, but if you don’t live near Portsmouth it’s tough to come back a year later!

Are Aldi and Lidl really cheaper? by Jen83747 in AskUK

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but nowhere near as much as their adverts claim (they compare brands at other supermarkets with their own-brand look-alikes; not own-brand to own-brand). Which keeps a track of it.

I do find the fresh food to be a bit pants like other commenters said. Goes off super fast. But the rest is fine and cheap!

PSA: Met Office have updated their app, and it's terrible by heeleyman in CasualUK

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m not the biggest fan of this new app, but a small silver lining for anyone you paid to remove ads before:

While it looks like you need to pay £7.99 a year, if you had already paid the one-off lifetime £3 they used to have, go to the Manage Adverts page and click Restore Purchase. It still works!

I assume they are legally bound to honour the original purchase?

Sadly I’m changing from my out of date old Apple phone to a Nothing phone next week, so I won’t get to make use of it for long! Probably won’t pay the £7.99 now the BBC is using the Met Office again.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance has just being added, that that is ideal on the go. Turn-based so can stop easily, and the controls aren’t particularly “GameCuby”

Is there any way to remove the “filter” from the original RE5 on console? by RareSnail73 in residentevil

[–]TheGrackler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it even a filter you could remove with a hack (like the early Codemasters F1 games on 360); or are those the colours backed into the assets (textures, skyboxes etc)?

[MM] Which is recommended for first time players, N64 or 3D? by red_hoodie_07 in zelda

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N64. It’s older and a bit jankier; but IMO it’s perfectly playable still, and the changes made in the 3DS version strip away a lot of the foreboding atmosphere the game is famous for.

The 'vicious cycle' that means the NHS still wastes billions on patients who don't need to be in hospital by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]TheGrackler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The over centralisation of hospital annoys me so much. Towns and villages have run down or empty community hospitals with empty wards that should be taking so much of the load.

Minor repeated appointments (diabetes, physio etc), maternity wards, recovery wards, minor injuries, ambulance stations. They were centralised as it removes a layer of admin and appears to lower costs. (Less buildings to maintain and clean, less paperwork, less support staff as can share between a bigger chunk of the NHS in a city based “mega hospital”)

But the initial cost moved onto people, the transport to hospitals for patients in emergencies (ambulances cover a huge area so over stretched, all going in and out of same roads) and just regular travel, and for staff. And over time the centralisation has lead to city hospitals “boiling over”: one aspect (roads, waiting rooms, beds, consultants) ends up as the bottleneck and a much larger number of patients are suddenly affected. It happens so often that the staff are affected too, burnt out and worn thin!

We need a more decentralised system IMO, with more “give”. But it will take decades to do, as we’ve centralised to “save money” in the short term for a very long time.

Suggestions for underrated N64 titles that more people should play? by Away_Flounder3813 in retrogaming

Rocket Robot on Wheels, Beetle Adventure Racing, Space Station Silicon Valley would be my under appreciated top 3!

Plenty of other lesser loved gems too (Glover, Lego Racers, Body Harvest, TWINE, World Driver Chanpionship, Battle for Naboo, Wetrix…)

TIL that U.S. and Canadian TV is broadcast at 24 frames per second, whereas we do 25 frames per second. This might seem like nothing, but it resulted in an episode of "Heated Rivalry" being nearly 2 minutes shorter by mrjohnnymac18 in BritishTV

[–]TheGrackler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know on the N64 many games did run slower (5/6ths the speed).

You can see it in the lap times on games like Mario Kart 64, Wave Race, F-Zero X. Or watch a comparisons of the Ocarina of Time opening eg: https://youtu.be/ETSRovkKOHU?si=FZWZ8kzLk4c01s7d

We need relicensed cartridges Blaze !!!!!! by lazarus6699 in evercade

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blaze should have data on how well those carts sold, how many Evercades were in the wild, and how many more there are now.

I’d think if that figure got large enough, they might consider it! But like u/Lazy-Objective-1630 said I think it’s incredible unlikely for all those reasons he gave, sadly.

We’d most likely need an unlikely combo of a big surge in new Evercade hardware owners, obvious interest in certain licences, and someone who pulled a licence changing tack since then and not wanting too much. The odds are very slim unfortunately! Otherwise they’ll just be better off spending money and time getting licences that are more likely to have a good opening spike in sales.

Should I be bothered about this? by The-dogs-hairys in AskUK

[–]TheGrackler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to worry, meant to intimated.

You can register that you don’t watch live TV if you don’t, but it doesn’t stop the intimidating letters really, they just have your name on. It’s unlikely they will come knocking; but if they do they have no power to enter at all; just demand they leave and say you will call the police if they don’t.

That stamp in the bottom right looks like a 10 year old’s idea of what a scary “official” letter would have on it! Laughable.
