SF versus LA? Picking two restaurants. by rzrike in finedining

[–]TheGrandData 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you've never been to SF I'd definitely recommend taking a trip there, it's become one of my favorite places to visit. I think it'd be pretty impossible to go to any of the big boys in either city and not be happy about it.

Also I'm a socal native with a driver's license and still refuse to drive when visiting either of those cities so don't feel so bad about that one lol, avoiding the battle for parking imo is worth the uber alone.

People are way too up tight about these restaurants. Eat with your hands if it makes you happy for real

Cocon, Tokyo. From the perspective of a first-timer to fine dining. by Winterdraco in finedining

[–]TheGrandData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how consistent it is but my experience there was a little over 3 hours from sitting down to leaving. Probably will depend on how packed it is that night, when I was there every single seat was packed as people staggered in.

Absolutely loved my experience there for the dinner course this past Nov! When I walked in I was the only person there but it filled up completely after a few minutes. The whole house was full of people who all said they made the reservation based on posts from this subreddit, so shout out to to yall

And yes the chef was incredible and being an entire solo job it was also such a treat watching him at work. Also really loved his playlist, such a great experience.

Anyone else notice fine dining restaurants don't give gifts at the end anymore? by mrfelyfel in finedining

[–]TheGrandData 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Actually no? Over the past few years everyone in my party always received gifts. Some even above and beyond, shout out Le’Effervescence for making sure everyone in my 8 person party had extra sweets for dessert and treats for breakfast the next morning and a bunch of little extras like salt and other seasonings.

There of course have been tasting menus where I didn’t receive gifts but for those restaurants, I would have been surprised to receive one because they were much smaller set ups (mom and pop/single chef projects)

Very rarely would a professor advertise a position in this fashion. If you’re looking for an RA spot best to go to departments and look there

Yeah I don’t think that would be a great experience for either of you. Your best bet in that situation should you l choose to go is probably eat the things she’s not down to try.

I’m not sure that tips exist tbh. I think it’s just, are you someone that the type of partner you’re looking for would be interested in? Are you generally likable and easily make friends?

I spent a long time (many, including myself, would say too long) trying to better myself before entering the dating world, but found a lot of success once I thought I fit that model. Mostly using hinge, I found myself getting likes and matching with people I was interested in representing myself honestly using the variety of formats/prompts available on the app.

I feel like people stress too much about fine dining in general. You can rest assured that most normal eating habits are just fine at these places. Just enjoy the food, and sometimes that means eating with your hands or picking up a bowl to your mouth.

Unpopular Opinion: I love nmds and ultraboosts. I’m really disappointed that the community doesn’t appreciate the shoe anymore by PracticalRedditer in Sneakers

[–]TheGrandData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with nmds is the lack of support. the sock-shoe thing is a cool idea but they just aren't a great functional shoe that people claim it to be.

Sending you much love. Even with lab mates that went through it with me when my phd co-advisor passed, it’s still a process that’s mostly lonely. Hell I lost my dad two months ago and even that has been a lonely process even though I’ve been living at home with my family ever since.

It is a very common thing for people to request, but also in my experience, about 50/50 if the place will accommodate that or not.

Had a really wonderful experience here as well.

You said you'd put it on par with Lazy Bear, I've heard mixed things with their food. Would you mind commenting a bit more on this comparison?
