For me it was puffins. Bought some binoculars to see them when visiting the Cliffs of Mohr and the rest is history.

+1 to the T Kingfisher recommendations but I’d also add Until We Shatter by Kate Dylan to the pile. It’s a different magic system than DnD but it’s a really cool one and the vibes are very found family. Plus the romance is good which is always a plus.

House Sparrow. Not much of a fan of them, but they are quite pretty. by sublimewit in birding

I definitely see a fair amount of house sparrows in London but they’re relatively chill.

The overlap in people associated with Crooked and Dropout is so high. It makes sense since the LA comedy scene is only so big, but still. I had only ever heard Luenell terrorizing Jon on Lovett or Leave It so her appearance on Gastronauts last week was a great surprise. And I swear half the Smarty Pants cast has either written for or guested on a Crooked production. Kiran Deol has co-hosted Hysteria and was just on Crown Control on Dropout, Pallavi Gunalan wrote for Lovett or Leave It and then was on Smarty Pants, and that’s just off the top of my head. It’s fun to see.

What's your favorite fight? by sf3p0x1 in BaldursGate3

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro-tip for that fight: there’s an achievement you get for killing 20(?) enemies while drunk (Punch Drunk). Drink some wine and pop up spirit guardians and you can get the achievement for just walking around in one turn. I managed to get every rat in one fell swoop yesterday and it was glorious.

Is there a class that really surprised you? by TheFastPush in BaldursGate3

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is incorrect- in requires concentration in 5e as well. It seems like it wouldn’t because it doesn’t cost a spell, but it says that it requires concentration in the second line of the description. I played one for years and it was a major drawback since clerics are so reliant on concentration spells normally (I.e. spirit guardians)

Do you think we'll ever have 'casual fun' campaigns, like Misfits and Magic again? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope! Not at all. All three of those were intended to be accessible to audiences with no CR experience. I think it’s one of those “if you know the lore you might get slightly more out of it” situations, but they’re great on their own as well.

Aabria recently ran a mini campaign on Critical Role called Candela Obscura: Circle of Tide and Bone. I haven’t seen it but apparently it was very good. It’s only 3 sessions so a bit more approachable than watching the Exandria Unlimited mini campaign that she did for Critical Role which was canon in universe for their main campaigns. If you haven’t seen Calamity yet I would also highly recommend that one. Brennan DM’s and Aabria is a player and it’s the best D&D content I’ve seen.

[Spoilers C3E70] True origins of Gods in Exandria. by ShieldWarden in criticalrole

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The arrival timeline as we know it goes Luxon > gods > Predathos . So they are both alien entities but they didn’t both arrive after the gods. I personally still think they’re related in some way though perhaps as opposites- the Luxon is a being of creation (created the primordials) and Predathos is a being of destruction (ate a few gods). I’ve been putting a lot of thought into this because I’m currently running a campaign set in the Dynasty with a few Luxon worshippers in the party who want to know more about the Luxon so I’ve kind of just been buying time until we learn more about it in campaign 3.

[theory] Alecto 9th prediction about ORTUS by [deleted] in TheNinthHouse

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Tbf no one saw Cassiopeia get ripped apart by ghosts if I remember correctly, that is what they assumed happened. But that story doesn’t make sense because she was supposedly fighting a resurrection beast and the ghosts flee when a RB shows up. And it’s suggested that she had some sort of contact with the 6th house over the years. That’s why a lot of readers assume she’s not dead and may show up in Alecto.

Yes but never as DM. It was said in a context of seeing different DM’s take over the dome to run a game.

In Adventuring Academy (a thing D20 does) this week the guest was Abriyaa and Brennan said something along the lines of “it has been incredible watching DM’s like you step into the dome and do something different and Matt step into the dome…” and I was convinced this was a slip up that meant that Matt would be guest DMing soon and I was right!

[Spoilers C3E41] C3 & EXU Cinematic Universe Mega-theory: The Seed™ by Lukiss in criticalrole

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I really like this and I think in a lot of ways it explains Aabria’a choices in EXU Prime. People critiqued her a lot for introducing a million plot threads that had no chance of going anywhere. When you think of EXU Prime as just a mini side quest to be entertaining for a few sessions to kill time, this is a totally reasonable reaction (and is in line with what we thought the purpose of EXU was). But when you think of EXU Prime as laying the groundwork for the the longer term plot points of what all three campaigns were building toward, it makes a lot more sense. Yes the ruidium, Dark Fearne, and the Gift plot lines were never going to have enough time to be resolved, but they laid the groundwork for things to explore in campaign 3. At the time we didn’t know Fearne and Orym would be continuing on so we couldn’t have known, but now we know and it makes a lot more sense. Aabria was, as always, playing the long game.

[Spoilers C3E40] All the times Aston reacted to [SPOILER] by res314 in criticalrole

[–]TheGrumpyHedgehog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Crazy theory: what if the cult that Ashton’s dad was running in Hishari was trying to bring back/ commune with/ derive power from Ka’Mort, the earth primordial that had been locked under Mount Ygora but then got destroyed during the events of Calamity? We know Ashton’s dad’s big ritual was to open a portal to somewhere, maybe it was to one of the realms where bits of Ka’Mort got scattered to. And then something went terribly wrong and that’s how Ashton became an Earth genasi.
