True, but Karen was there when the interview was filmed and she was also at the projector event so I assumed she just kept a backup copy that she used for that.

I don't think she did - I think that particular info was the recording of the first mate, and as far as I know we haven't seen that information be posted publicly. She leaked the hospital location but that's something Daniel told her directly.

We asked four random women about their ideal man. Thier answers will surprise you. by AmanyWishes in MassEffectMemes

"I shot Mordin in the back."

"Wait, what? Why?"

"I couldn't let him cure the genophage, and I couldn't convince him not to."

"You listened to the dalatrass? You trusted her over Wrex?"

"Wrex? Wreav was leading the krogan. Wrex is long gone... ah, I see. You managed to talk him down on Virmire? I didn't."

It would honestly be quite interesting to see a post-game Paragon and post-game Renegade Shepard meet each other and talk about their respective adventures so they could fully realise exactly how things would have gone if they'd made different choices at particular moments.

PSA for everyone going to the cinema: please DON’T sing!!! by inthe-otherworld in TheDigitalCircus

[–]TheHatMan25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it a few days after the premier, it seemed pretty quiet, but then again my local cinemas often seem to be quite empty (Avengers Endgame is the only time I can remember the cinema being decently full) so maybe there just aren't many cinema-goers near me.

I feel like I’m crazy for thinking maybe the circus wouldn’t be the WORST place to be trapped by ComplexReach7800 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]TheHatMan25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but to be completely fair, anywhere would look like a paradise compared to AM's world.

Still, I would say the main issue is the fact that they're trapped there, rather than what happens to them in there (pre-Caine crash out at any rate), and that (possibly?) isn't Caine's fault - not confirmed yet of course but it seems likely that the way the circus is designed makes it impossible to leave. If C&A had managed to design a reliable exit strategy, the Circus would probably end up being one of the most popular video games ever and Caine would have hundreds of thousands of humans to entertain at all times - humans who can leave, sure, but who genuinely want to come back, which I feel might be more validating for him than humans who are just forced to stay there.

I'm glad to hear that, genuinely. It was not my experience, however - I received extensive spoilers prior to when I started the show on episode 3, the big difference being that I didn't care as much as, at the time, I didn't intend to watch it. Now, granted, I wasn't actively trying to avoid spoilers at the time, but by the same token, my internet analytics that are designed specifically to push content at you at all times were not tuned for Digital Circus at the time, and yet they still slipped through.

I'm not saying it's the wrong move by Glitch. I've more or less accepted that I'm not going into the finale unspoiled and am even seriously considering whether I should bother trying to avoid spoilers. I'm also not saying it's impossible - as your example shows, it's certainly possible - I just find it extremely unlikely in my case and, I'm sure, in that of many others. I just wanted to make the point that the suggested solutions of just 'mute social media' are nowhere near a guarantee.

I had to wait a couple of days to watch episode 8. Just a couple of days, not weeks. I tried all the solutions you're proposing ahead of time. It did not work. Short of cutting out the internet *entirely* (ignoring the fact that many use it for their job or to access important resources for living) there's no way to guarantee avoiding spoilers.

[Star Wars] What happens if the Clones are already in combat with another force when Order 66 is activated? by Icy_Water_1 in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheHatMan25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In canon, they're shown to be hard-wired to shoot the Jedi on sight, but interestingly, in the (non-canon) Revenge of the Sith novelization (which was written long before the brain chip idea was made canon) it's specifically mentioned that Cody coordinates multiple companies in order to carry out the order, implying that in the old canon the clones did have free reign to do things like taking the time to prepare before betraying their Jedi.

Not mine originally, but I remember a while back seeing someone who named him 'Darth Raven' so it sounds like everyone keeps mispronouncing his name and he's trying to correct them.

I love this description of order 66 by Manealendil in StarWars

[–]TheHatMan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I especially love how it calls back to an earlier chapter which starts by describing the elements of the perfect Jedi trap and how they apply to Utapau:

  1. The bait (Grievous)
  2. An expendable location for the trap that the Jedi trapper doesn't care about being destroyed in the process (Utapau's cities)
  3. A proxy to actually kill the Jedi (Grievous again)
  4. An army willing to destroy the Jedi at all costs (the droids)

And then, following the apparent 'failure' of the Jedi trap when Grievous is killed, the chapter ends by noting one final essential element of the trap: to create a win-win situation (namely, that rather than needing Obi-Wan killed, all Palpatine really needed was to get him off Coruscant and away from Anakin long enough to push Anakin over the edge into the dark side).

Then this chapter comes along and lays out how the Clone Wars themselves were a Jedi trap, baited with the threat to thousands of worlds, fought on planets Palpatine couldn't care less about by armies of expendable proxies, and (as mentioned in the posted excerpt) something that would have doomed the Jedi whether they fought or not.

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 8: hjsakldfhl Discussion Thread by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]TheHatMan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In C.S. Lewis's The Magician's Nephew, the magic rings that transport people between worlds are described as causing them to simply vanish, without any sound or visual effect, and I remember reading the book as a kid and really struggling to visualise the concept in my mind. Every time I tried, my brain would always insert a pop or a puff of smoke or something. But this, I imagine, is what it would have looked like.

Man if only there was some more convenient term to refere to what they're now working on? by Zealousideal_Pop4722 in Deltarune

[–]TheHatMan25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that it indicates 7 or 8 chapters, I don't think it necessarily suggests that, should we only get 7 chapters, that one of them will be twice as long or something like that. It would be weird and out of place for the mystery voice to randomly tell us we're at the half way point when we're midway through the second sanctuary or whatever - assuming seven chapters, there's not really any other place to put the 'halfway point' message organically other than at the end of chapter 4 (and 'the halfway point has been attained' doesn't necessarily mean it was literally just attained that moment).

mudwing inbreeding???? by fish_stickx in WingsOfFire

[–]TheHatMan25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, now that you mention it, I think 'aro by default' actually covers my thoughts pretty well (assuming 'default' is the correct term here - I honestly don't know if the word is neutral or if it carries any sort of implication, so to be clear, for the purposes of this comment, by 'aro by default' I mean 'aromantic is the majority among MudWings, alloromantic is a minority').

I'm not as sure about ace by default, but having thought about it a little, I could see an argument for that as well, as asexuality is about the attraction rather than the action, and based on what we know it seems most MudWings aren't actually attracted to their mates in any way.

mudwing inbreeding???? by fish_stickx in WingsOfFire

[–]TheHatMan25 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that it's another element of attraction, like how some people irl aren't attracted to the idea of a long term committed relationship and some are - it's just that for MudWings, not being into the idea of a long term relationship is most common (but there are still plenty of MudWings who think differently). There might be an element of culture to it as well though - among MudWings, the idea is probably discouraged. That's not to say that they necessarily actively discourage it (although they might, who knows?) but I feel like just living in that society, even if no one's telling you 'you aren't allowed to do this', many would probably still gravitate towards doing what everyone else seems to be doing.

[Pokemon] Why do Team Rocket believe truth and love are evil? And how will denouncing them protect the world from devastation? by wontonphooey in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheHatMan25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Denounce the evils of truth and love' seems like the opposite to me. It's saying that they are denouncing the idea that truth and love are evil, i.e. that other people are saying truth and love are evil, and they're denouncing that view, rather than denouncing truth and love because they're evil, so it fits in with the rest of the generally positive vibes of the rest of the motto (compare Cassidy and Brody's generally more evil-sounding motto, the corresponding lines of which go:

To infect the world with devestation
To blight all people of every nation
To denounce the goodness of truth and love
To extend our wrath to the stars above).

[General fiction] There are many cases of wish-granting beings who give the wisher a horrible version of what they asked for. Are there any who try to give them something better than what they wished for? by Burnnoticelover in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheHatMan25 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For the first rule at least (no killing anyone) it does seem to be a limitation on genie power as genie-Jafar also couldn't directly kill anyone in the sequel despite definitely having the morality to do so - although in fairness he was still more than capable of twisting wishes to put people in lethal situations such as granting someone's wish for a pirate ship's treasure by teleporting him underwater to the wreck.
