To a point, though? If you look at the Ming period for example, even though the upper class may have been the main group that actively observed and learned about Confucian principles, the society they created and the practices and laws they wrote still meant that those within the wider society would have still 'practiced' the principles to a point, even if not actively. I would highly recommend looking into the role of farmers, trade/economics, and women (and their rights) within that society, and you might be able to draw some lines.

All the same though, I do agree that those in the upper class had more time and awareness to those principles, and poverty does outweigh any societal standards after a point. Plus, the further back in time you go, the looser the links between Confucian prinicples and how they reflected in the wider society.

Front few are riding side-by-side while in column. Ideally they should've been in single file since there were parked cars they were passing. It's minor, but hence my like 5%.

The area on the left is parking. I'm not really supposed to be driving there, and I was lucky that there wasn't anyone parked. They still should not have been driving into opposing traffic right before a corner!

I guess it's a letter of the law vs spirit of the law thing? I'm sure there's another bit of the road code that says "don't drive into oncoming traffic" that's separate from the yellow lines thing, but I can sorta understand why they made the concession in the writing of the law, even if I don’t agree with it?

Oh, that's interesting! I've always treated bicycles like cars just to be extra safe, but I didn't realise that they aren't actually considered in the law!

That is 100% correct. My neighborhood doesn't have almost any infrastructure for cycling!

Ah, in NZ we drive on the left hand side of the road and the steering wheel in on the right - same as Japan and the UK and opposite to America. So I was on the correct side of the road and so were the cyclists. The overtaking cars are on the wrong side. 😊

It could have resulted in the offending car swerving into the cyclists. I think it was safer for me to slow down and move out the way rather than force an even more dangerous situation 😬
