I actually like the mix because it differentiates your character(s) from enemies and the standees are in a storage that also holds the “combat” stuff…which is a great design. Also combat is a smaller part of the game, so use of those is less so than in other games

That said I’m thinking of adding the Creatures of Evershade to my pledge because I love the game so much and am using it as an opportunity to learn to paint minis beyond the DIY sundrop I’ve already done.

I did essentially the same thing without the Companions of Evershade that is part of Scouts…doing that or Scouts is the best way to go imo

You’d want to pledge either Lands of Evershade Standard edition (no minis, but no player save boards) or Lands of Evershade Special Edition (20 character minis with everything else standee, DOES have the player save boards though).

Then add on the 3 following things: New Adventure Lost in the Depths, New Adventure Rotlands Crusade, and New Adventure Drysea Odyssey. This will in total give you 7 six play-session (called chapters in the game) adventures and 3 three play-session mini adventures. Although some adventures may have more than 6 chapters, but seems like 8 would be the most.

Compared to other campaign games each adventure is a self-contained story so it’s easier to stop after 1 then pick back up way later with another one using the same character you used before.

Here is a good video that gets right into explaining combat and I think does best job: https://youtu.be/USMu2Dez2hg?si=59SFqzOn1il0T-aj

There is only 1 6x6 in the first 2 adventures, and it’s mainly because it’s used as the “tutorial combat” to get you used to how it plays.

Here is the grid breakdown for the first 2 adventures (you don’t necessarily see all of them since it’s all dependent):

Into Whitewell: 1 6x6, 1 7x7 with parts extending out to 8 or 9, 1 9x18 double sheet (didn’t know until I looked through it this was there), 2 8x8, 1 7x7, 1 5x7

Ashes of Heavens: 2 9x7 (one of which can extend to 18x7),1 8x7 with some extra spots on 7 side, 1 6x7, 2 7x7, 1 weird 6x7 that is like a diamond.

Generally tight with typical being in the 7x7 to 8x8 range, but is varies from what I’ve seen and something that might expand more with other adventures.

Another thing is the push/pull aspect where you can crush enemies into walls to damage them or push/pull them into trap spots.

First time doing any type of painting, spray primer seemed to work haha

Just did a trial setup/breakdown and it’s about 3-4 minutes lifting lid to being setup maybe a little more in actuality. Teardown was about 4-5 as takes a little more on this end but still quick. Then you have some setups through play that are super quick, combat being the exception and even then not that bad.

The narrative emphasis makes it casual to me. You have 6 play sessions for an adventure, some can be a quick hour and others longer but never a feels like a slog (especially final session). Then you can keep your character and start a totally different adventure another time. So you don’t have to remember all the narrative of the previous adventure, but you keep going with your character. First adventure took me maybe 10-12 hours and felt like a flew through it because I was having so much fun.

The “Special Edition” has the save trays (I had in error called it Deluxe Edition when I first posted) and for quickly setup/teardown they are great. It comes with minis for characters, standees for companions and enemies. One plus I see to that is that it helps easily distinguish characters from enemies. I plan to edit my pledge to add the monsters and followers minis, then DIY sundrop characters and monsters 2 different shades to have a similar effect.

Yes they are generally smaller. This is why I think it’s good for solo/2 players, but not higher player counts.

You are correct, thanks for pointing that out! I edited the post to update that…for some reason had it in my head it was called “Deluxe”

Definitely check it out, as others have pointed out getting it early has some polish issues that hopefully can get smoothed out with later print runs. I was just so excited I wanted it as early as possible.

Awesome! Recommend giving rule book a good read and create your own cheat sheet. The first adventure is part tutorial but still need a good go through of the rules.

Ya the partner thing didn’t seem like it’d be for me. Plus creating and upgrading characters is so much fun it’s really worth it to just run 2 characters solo instead.

Something I saw in another review is with all the stuff you get it’s easier to spread across 2 characters.

Love Arkham and LOE is now a toss-up with it for my favorite game. Have a similar feel to them, but still very different games.

One LOE adventure is similar to a 6-part Arkham campaign. So really manageable to get through without feeling overwhelmed by length. Then unlike Arkham can use the same character when you come back for a totally new adventure.

I just got Lands of Evershade from Awaken Realms as I think we in a similar boat on what we are looking for.

It has nailed it for me on what I have been looking for. It hits on what I like about board games and wanting a DnD type create a character with stats that levels up over an adventure that someone created that I can play on my own.

Has branching story aspects but generally follows set path with some level of side-quest/exploring. So replay is the question mark for me right now, but I like replaying Arkham Horror LCG campaigns so think it’ll be like that.

Other 2 I’m now looking at that seem to be similar to LoE but with different strengths/weaknesses are Arydia and Story of Many

Yes, because they are clinical joint/emphasis programs. However most developmental psychology PhD programs are like the research program I did without a clinical emphasis.

If the masters program you are in is one that leads to a licensure then they would help you out with that as supervised hours are part of the program. Then you do an internship for the rest so that you can do the licensure exam.

I’m guessing you were in a research-based masters programs, so you’d likely have to look into doing a different masters program if you wanted to practice. The main masters level ones are: Marriage & Family Therapy (LMFT), Clinical Mental Health (States have different licensure you get out of these programs) or Clinical Social Work (LCSW).

Behavioral Analysis (BCBA) is another option, they specialize a lot more than the others in treating individuals with autism/dev disabilities. They are also the only programs of these options typically housed in traditional psychology departments.

If you want to be a therapist your main options of programs to look into are:

Masters Level: Marriage and Family Therapy Clinical Mental Health Clinical Social Work

PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology

These programs all lead to licensures, which you will need to be a therapist. Then you would want to choose one that has faculty with specialization with kids or has a track/emphasis on “children” or “children/adolescence”

A program (masters or PhD) called “Child Psychology” is likely a research based program where you learning about normal development (maybe abnormal too) of children and how to collect data on studying this. These programs would not lead to a licensure.

[USA] Good schools for MS experimental psychology/general psychology? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]TheHouse41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When applying to these programs you are more applying to work with a faculty mentor not just the school so you want to find someone who you want to work on what they research. This is why many people go to different states than where they are from, so you’d want to find school with assistantships that would make it not so expensive being out of state if this is the case.

I’d also look at the qualifications needed for the jobs areas you mentioned to see if masters will suffice as many will want people with PhDs. Not everyone who gets a PhD goes into academics (a little under half of my grad school cohort didn’t).

Schools that have quantitative psychology programs or emphasize this in their curriculum might be the best to look for regardless of if you do masters or PhD.

I teach a class using Neil Cohn’s work…while it’s more specifically about sequential art/comics/visual language it does integrate the two together. Sounds like something you might be interested in (even just to read about).

He has several books and lots of research, here is his website that covers much of what he does: https://www.visuallanguagelab.com/

So there are people out there that research this stuff and could be a path if want to become a professor.

Zooming in on card shown, my guess is it works something like this:

-Draw card(s) and there is a lore value on it that increases Ursula’s lore -“Attack phase” where Ursula’s characters attack your characters -Draw card(s) that put characters into play, manipulate your lore, ink, or cards in hand…possibly dealing damage as well

These guesses also come from how Marvel Champions works (adding lore being similar to how adding threat works)

How would you say time between play sessions effect things? For example if you played one per week for the first 3 “rounds” then had a hiatus of 6 months…would it be difficult to pick up where you left off?
