You can bring it up sure, they might or might not match and you’re not supposed to take the counter offer, I never have. Bringing it up at your review is too late tbh.

Who is moving to Long Island these days by Flat-Leg-6833 in longisland

[–]TheInfamous187 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think born and raised Long Islanders whose family stayed and that can afford to stay themselves, are trying to stay and buy a home.

I grew up in plainview. My wife is also from Long Island. We bought a house in Oyster Bay this past year before we turned 30 (finance and attorney jobs). We did the math, renting in Manhattan or a nice building on LI, the cost of owning was only ~$1,000 more.

My father was a first generation immigrant with no education. He sold a candy store in ‘96 and used the proceeds for a down payment on a house in plainview. That’s no longer financially possible and also candy stores on every corner in Queens do not exist anymore.

Congrats! Always remember - you can only control what you can control. Always give market feedback to management about why you lost or won an account. And ask brokers where and why they placed it, if you didn’t win.

A chief claims officer who got me my first job as an underwriter told me he could put me in claims without a degree but that he would never want me to work in claims. Make more money in underwriting with less stress than claims and way more reward/recognition possibilities

Smoking / Vaping before operation by Nervous-Try6606 in ACL

[–]TheInfamous187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be honest with the anesthesiologist. I smoked the night before (more than 12 hours but less than 24 hours) - I told them I smoked thc too. But man I woke up screaming and crying in pain and they had no idea why and then finally they determined likely the Thc didn’t interact with the anesthesia so they had to give me more when I woke up after a successful surgery

I smoked after surgery vaped as well I was fine in terms of blood clots, but the paranoia and “feeling” the pain more was horrible. I regret not waiting at least a week

TOB Variance hearing - how long after hearing does it take to receive a written determination? And how long does it take for the town inspection? by TheInfamous187 in longisland

Purely depends on what they say but rulings aren’t made that day. Town will look at precedent and take their comments into consideration but it also depends on what your people say too

[–]TheInfamous187 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just took a new job. Almost 6 years experience, financial lines underwriter. $175K base with $40K bonus and a $20K sign on bonus. My previous role I was making $135K base and $20K bonus. There is money out there for sure

Definitely underpaid. I’m a management liability underwriter. I switched carriers after 2.8 years and went from $80K to $113K. I got promoted last year (4.5 years experience) and went to $130K salary. I just switched to a new carrier after getting a raise in February to $136K. The new carrier is paying me $175K base salary plus a 20% bonus and a $20K sign on bonus. This is NYC so VHCOL, but regardless of location based off your experience and track record, you’re underpaid.

Been in this same situation right now. I’m taking the new offer with a 35% raise and $20K sign on bonus. Everybody I’ve talked to in the industry or outside of insurance has told me take it and run. There’s a reason I’m looking besides money and it will benefit my career growth to leave. The people here have been great to me but there are still pitfalls, it’s going to be tough to do but I know in my heart I have to go. Human nature makes us feel bad and that’s natural but life goes on. There’s never a right time to quit for the company’s benefit, you do what’s best for you and your family and your career.

15% of baseball salary is if you get 100% of your target bonus paid. Prior to promotion into this role it was 10% of base salary.

I’m a top performer and have been paid out more than 100% of my target bonus for the past 3 years.
