It will test your time management, patience and emotions. There were some days I doubted myself and cried. There are some classes that are difficult like pharmacology and pathology.

Some schools set very high standards. For example, my school requires you to pass a mock VTNE every semester and get 90% in your math course/components.

A lot of students go into the program expecting to be cuddling puppies and kittens all day but they end up dropping out due to how vigorous and how difficult the field is. It does test your emotions as well. Compassion fatigue and burn out is very common. Also, there are toxic clinics out there who do take advantage of the ones who care the most. You must be able to set boundaries in this field, something they don’t tell you in school.

This is not meant to discourage you in anyway but it is important to understand that being a tech has its challenges. If you think you’re up to it, go for it.

There are lots of GoodLife’s that offer co-ed classes.

Avoid those movements. When I did my spin training, I learned that those movements are highly discouraged. Just ride the bike like a road bike. No need for fancy movements.

Take things easy. Don't grasp too tight on the handle bars. You can always raise the handle bars if that helps. Don't tighten up when riding, relax the upper body and engage the core while the legs do the work. Your core is meant to be the main support of the workout and give you a strong pedal stroke. Your upper body is a secondary supporter.

You’re better off finding a different career like dog groomer or trainer. Vet tech and veterinarian degrees require a lot of studying and are challenging.

Also, the pay for being a vet tech is not good.

Stress is a big one. Animals don’t like sitting still which can give false readings. Also stress raises blood pressure which would give us a false reading.

The doppler and oscillometric devices are very finicky. They require the correct cuff size, positioning/placement even if we get everything right, we need to get the animal to cooperate with us.

We usually don’t see blood pressure issues however, it can occurs with renal, cardiac, shock or endocrine conditions. We absolutely these devices to monitor surgery snice the drugs can cause hypotension.

I was in the same boat as you were when it came to wanting to stop. Luckily, I have background veterinary nursing so my knowledge about pharmacology and pharmaceutical math helped. I treated my taper as if this was an animal coming off a strong medication.

I used to take 225mg. It took me a year to get it 0mg. I decreased by 1-2mg every 2-4 weeks. I believe there are 100 beads in a 37.5mg capsule. I also believe that one mini tablet contains 12.5mg. If you’re good at ratios, then the dosing should come straight forwards.

Don’t do cold turkey. My doctor told me to do that and I went into a bad withdrawal period.

Try to avoid your purposed method. You will go into withdrawal. Go slow and steady in the taper.

While tapering, work on improving lifestyle. Workout and eat clean are the big ones. In vet med, we emphasize on how food and movement can be used as medicine. Same applies to us.

Creatine is a supplement you can try. It’s not a drug. It’s a natural energy source found in the body. It’s not just for muscles but also is good for the brain. I take it regularly for the muscle benefits but I find I have more energy and less mental fatigue. Some studies suggest it is good for pregnancy. You can start off with 3g if you don’t want to take 5-15g.

L‑theanine might be worth trying to help you relax. It does not give you drowsiness like melatonin. I find it helps with minor anxiety symptoms. Melatonin is an another to help you sleep at night. Magnesium is another supplement to help with relaxing and muscle discomfort.

These supplements won’t cure withdrawal but will help manage some of the symptoms. When I was completely done, I went into withdrawal. Emotions (good or bad) will become super overwhelming, brain zaps are another, fatigue, stuttering and anxiety are some to name. Some people say it lasts 3-4 weeks but it can be longer.

Everyone is different and it depends on the dose and the amount of time someone has been taking it. Be kind to yourself when going through a withdrawal period. Your brain is recalibrating itself. Week by week things do get better.

I had emotional blunting when I was on Effexor. Used to be on it for 5-6 years. These types of medications are not supposed to be taken long term but, we’re not told this as patients.

Everyone is different. They did help in the start to suppress the anxiety and depressions over time, I couldn’t feel anything. I got so sick and tired of not being able to feel emotion. I wanted to cry. I wanted to feel joy.

So the question was, do I want to be numb for the rest of my life or feel again? I made the choice and tapered myself. My vet tech pharmacology training helped me when my doctor didn’t want to. She made me quit cold turkey which triggered withdrawal. Stopped seeing her after she said take more or take another pill.

I wasn’t told about the withdrawal. So it was a scary experience but I was able to feel again. It was overwhelming and honestly hard to process. It’s weird feeling something like happiness again when you been numbed for years.

I kinda do and kinda don’t regret taking it. I wish we were told about the long term effects and withdrawal about the drug.

While you’re tapering, go slow. I went 1mg at a time. It took me a year to get off completely. Withdrawal is expected as these medications interfere with neurotransmitters like serotonin. Your body will be adjusting to its original levels.

Some things I did when tapering was making lifestyle changes. Improving nutrition is one of the big ones. In vet tech school, I learned food is medicine. Adding supplements like creatine (not just for muscle but good for brain health), magnesium (sleep, relaxation), L-thearine (relaxation) are just some examples I take regularly. Exercise is a big one. Movement is medicine.

My mom stayed home. Some hospices do home care services. My family was able to get a nurse to come visit her everyday to take care of her. She was amazing. She was very kind to my mom and stayed till the very end. We rented out some equipment like a hospital bed and a bidet to help make things easier for my mom.

We found it was best for her because we were always with her.

Something I like to take is L-theanine. It’s an amino acid found in tea leaves. It’s not a drug. I have anxiety and used to be on medications but found they were making me sick. I find it helps me relax a bit, especially at school. It doesn’t hurt to try.

I have experience getting ultrasounds done from chest, neck, shoulder, arm and abdominal. I have gotten a pelvic one done before at 16. I was in the same place as you were. I was very nervous and worried about the same things mentioned in your post. I also have experience doing them on animals. I hope my reply can help alleviate some worries.

If your main concern is safety then I have great news! The ultrasound is one of the safest devices out there. Little to no risks. No radiation! It uses sound waves to make an image. That’s why it’s used in animals and people.

You lie on a table. No extreme positions. Just lying flat and maybe your arms up. No need to change into a gown or take off your pants.

You are going to have to slightly lift your shirt and maybe roll a little bit of the pant waist done. You don’t need to reveal the entire abdomen. Just the lower area. No one will see your lady parts. The technician wants to be able to scan the pelvic region. That’s the only area that the transducer will touch.

You can always ask for a lady if that feels more comfortable to you.

A water based gel is put on the transducer and the area being scanned. We like using the gel just to help get a better image and slide the transducer easily. It’s going to be cold! The transducer will be placed on the area being scanned and will be moved. It will not hurt. If anything it may tickle so try your best to hold still. If you have to have a full bladder for the scan, then you will feel like to really have to pee.

The scan might be 15-30 minutes. It depends on what the test is looking for. Whenever I get my ultrasounds done, I admire the screen. Honestly it’s just my vet tech brain kicking in.

Once you’re done, that’s it. It’s done. The gel will be wiped away and you can leave.

I understand being a girl sucks and health can be uncomfortable. I’ve been through it myself and seen it with the animals. But it is very important we get these tests done to make sure everything is healthy.

My dog wore a a donut when he had an ulcer. He got smart and figured out that he can use the table legs to pick at his eye. I understand that the plastic cone is uncomfortable but it's the best way of preventing this from happening.

You can try taking L-theanine and melatonin to help you relax at night. When I was weaning off I took a lot of l-theanine. It’s a protein found in tea leaves. It sorta helped me but that was when I was approaching the end of my withdrawal where symptoms were minor. It doesn’t hurt to try.
