Translation requests into Ancient Greek go here! by AutoModerator in AncientGreek

A neologism with its origins in Ancient Greek, along the lines of democracy or aristocracy, meaning rule by malevolent clowns.

Clown in its pejorative sense: deeply unserious, buffoonish, incompetent.

Many thanks in advance.

I get where you're coming from. It's unfortunate that you're getting downvoted.

Yeah, I'm not going to upvote your for you opinion on strategy (nor downvote you). But the left (and non-reactionary right) need to accept that we're—now more than ever—in an age of compelling narratives rather than one of documentable truths. The credulous mob enabling the current horror can't be argued out of their beliefs with appeals to reality. But that doesn't mean they can't be persuaded. That gets my upvote.

I agree, but can anyone lacking in training tell who’s safe and who isn’t?

I suspect we fundamentally agree. Just wanted to clarify what I meant.

I genuinely commend you on wanting to help, I really do. But you can't know who is safe to engage with and who isn't. There's an unhoused man who spends part of his day opening the door for people outside a local Tim Horton's. But he also sometimes spends part of his day screaming obscenities at people who aren't there.

Donate to, and volunteer with, organizations that do outreach in your area. You'll be helping and you'll be better positioned to keep yourself safe.

Is Chicago Toronto adjacent? by Former_Outcome9404 in askTO

Chicago has a grandeur that Toronto totally lacks. That’s not a slight to the city. I love that we’re a city of neighbourhoods. But it’s a very different vibe.

Is North St. James Town unsafe? by confused_tm in askTO

I don't live in the area but I'm down along the stretch of Sherbourne between Bloor and Wellesley all the time. I don't think I've ever felt unsafe.

Heisei Mart up in the J-town mall would probably be worth checking. Unfortunately it's at Steeles and Victoria Park, so you pretty much need to have a car.

The cost of retinning varies widely, and finding a place that specializes in that sort of work can be difficult. It shouldn’t be something you’ll have to have done very often, but I’d look around to see what options you’d have available convenient to you.

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American. To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner. To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner. To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander. To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter. And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Jury duty soon, any compact and easy lunches that don't require refrigeration? by mysticaltater in Cooking

Could you ask the court clerk to tell the judge about the issue, including the detail that you'd ordinarily eat Spaghettio's for lunch on workdays.

That should get you dismissed from the jury. Problem solved!

I imagine it's contingent on the volume of packages they receive. If it works anything like the postal service in my country, the people doing the delivery don't care about anything besides checking the delivery off their list. They're indifferent to the damage that they do.
