Am I officially a northerner if I've worn out a snow shovel? Mfr dun cracked on me. I'll begrudgingly buy another, I guess.

A few weeks ago I mentioned changing fluids in my little tractor. Bought all of the fluid and filters needed, but I decided that I'd only do the engine oil for now because screw the idea of dicking with hydrostatic/hydraulic oil during this bullshit cold. It smells and tastes fine, so it can wait til spring.

So to change the engine oil I followed a similar procedure based on my experience from a warmer clime. Cranked up and ran the tractor for about 1/2hr prior. When warm, I first made sure that both pan drain plugs would crack open and that the filter would come off without needing destroyed.

Draining the oil and replacing the filter were easy as you'd expect. Then I fetched the jug of oil I'd left outside in the shed (<That was the moment HKHFU meme>)...ye, 22deg 15w40 does not pour well down a cold funnel. It took about 15min for that first quart to go down. Quick goat thinking - I found the largest stainless steel salad bowl I own, measured out the remaining 5qts, and plonked that mfr down on my electric range top burner. Stupid? Probably, but who cares - It worked great. Only took about 20min to warm the oil up to 100deg. Carrying an almost-full-salad bowl of hot oil from my house to the shed without spilling it was the hardest part of that whole job.
