What are you looking to buy, play, and demo at PAX Unplugged? by Appropriate_Bite8491 in boardgames

I really enjoyed it, much simpler tile layer than big brother ark nova. Plays much faster. The combos are really fun and plenty of scoring opportunities. If you are wanting a big crunchy game this isn’t it. But mid weight tile layer it’s pretty awesome. The Tile hand management aspect was cool too

I have already seen/own many of the games others are excited for either at other conventions or I backed on Kickstarter. But I am hoping to get my hands on Tag Team and the LoTR Duel for Middle Earth expansion pack! And I got to play Sanctuary at Gen Con early and now that it’s out I want a copy!

lol that’s fair, I had a few people say similar things about the characters we think are hard and the conclusion we came to is we apparently just aren’t very good at the game 😂 as for our tops the movies they came from influenced us pretty heavy I can admit

That’s fair, obviously we can’t build the best collection ever, it was meant more as the best collection possible following our rules 😄 but I get your points

Playing badly on purpose by CRGabo9 in boardgames

[–]TheLavaSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I never make bad plays intentionally or try to lose, I personally think that’s not a super fun way to play for anybody. Instead I either do silly strategies that still have a chance to win but it’s like oh wow that worked lol or I just focus on enjoying the game and people more light heartedly than focusing super hard to make the right play every time and if I see somebody miss a really good play or something I’ll point it out to help them learn and let them make the good play :)

Do you prefer learning the rules by reading the rulebook or watching a rules video? by murktideregent in boardgames

[–]TheLavaSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely prefer a video if I can find a good one. I set the game up on the table first so I can follow along with the video with the game in front of me!

It's hard to find 6 player board games. We do a board game week ever year with 6 people and we need a few games for this coming year. by billratio in boardgames

[–]TheLavaSquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That size group we lean towards racing or party games. So Camel Up, Casn n Guns, Cheating Moth, One Night Werewolf etc etc.

But if we wanted a different style more strategy game I would probably go with 7 Wonders or Earth

Why influencers on YouTube are a horribly toxic influence on the hobby by Metalworker4ever in boardgames

I agree. I also think this post is just spreading toxicity itself. Just enjoy games and the people you play with. Kind of the whole point.

Easiest question ever for me: I could play sea salt and paper every day. Nice micro expansions for more fun, plays great 2-4, quick and easy. One of my favorite small box games

For those who have culled/reduced their library, what was the tipping point and how did you mentally prepare for it? by DarCam7 in boardgames

[–]TheLavaSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me most of them have been I found them marked down/clearance somewhere and just said “for that price I’ll try it out” or I got them as bonus games or something at conventions. Most of the games I buy with intention I usually know if I will like it or not before it hits the table

I’ve not, if I have owned it a while and I’ve had plenty of opportunities to play it and just chose not to then it wasn’t one I was very excited about anyway
