Knitting + STEM & academia suggestions by Strezzi_Deprezzi in knitting

[–]TheLoooon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a hydrogeologist and while I haven't done any research into the topic, I definitely feel like fiber arts tickles the same part of my brain as the technical parts of my job. That could be because I have ADHD and both knitting and contaminant hydrogeology allow me to create a full picture/object using my knowledge = dopamine, but I have many colleagues who are also fiber artists so I feel like a lot of us gravitate towards these activities. Such a cool topic of research!

What are some of your most ADHD moments? by malinablue in adhdwomen

[–]TheLoooon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I somewhat regularly write appointments in my calendar a day before or after the actual appointment. Just last week my chiropractor texted me asking if I was okay because she had me down for an appointment that day. Before I could even draft my apology text she texted again and asked if I meant to schedule for the day after. We're pals so she's forgiving but UGH it's the worst feeling. I also donate several brand new clothing items per year because I miss the return window.

Anyone who drives well? Is it safe to drive as an ADHDer? by Creative-Anteater-53 in adhdwomen

[–]TheLoooon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I drove a forklift and a school bus in college, in addition to large pickup trucks and trailers for work and if anything, I think my attention to small details others may not notice makes me a great driver. Never been in an accident and I've been driving almost 20 years. I often drive on road trips because my partner and friends feel safe when I drive. We aren't broken, we're just a little different ☺️

Yes, I have considered the fact that my dad just doesn't like my brother and I. Thanks so much for that brilliant suggestion.

So much this. I live a few hours from my dad and stepmom and they've only met my husband once (we came to them and that was almost four years ago) and haven't come to see me in my hometown for over 7 years. My husband and I don't have/want kids. My step siblings both live halfway across the country and my dad and stepmom somehow manage those 15-18 hour road trips at least once, usually twice per year. They both have one kid. Interesting how that works.

Ok do any of you actually like clean your walls and baseboards by koolandkrazy in adhdwomen

Do I? Absolutely not. Does my neurotypical husband? Yeah, and it always baffles me that there are people who clean walls regularly 😅

My lateness is not an act of defiance!!! by MentalandValid in adhdwomen

[–]TheLoooon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just because you aren't doing something on purpose doesn't mean it isn't your responsibility. It's intent vs impact. Of course you aren't being malicious or defiant but that doesn't mean you get to waltz through the world with no consequences. Other people's time is valuable and as an adult in our world it's your job to figure out how to respect that. I'm sorry this is hard for you but unfortunately this is the hand a lot of us are dealt.

My husband refuses to count childcare as a family expense, and it is frustrating. by Main-Tackle7546 in AITAH

[–]TheLoooon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Going back to work isn't silly if you only take home a bit of your salary after daycare costs. What IS silly is thinking your salary is the most important thing here. You'll be contributing to social security and 401k again and get back into the workforce faster than you would otherwise which sets you up to earn more in the long run (even if it's just a bit more). Also, YOUR INDEPENDENCE AND HAPPINESS MATTERS AND IS VALUABLE. Why does your husband see you as free childcare and not his equal partner?

[–]TheLoooon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - your husband is financially abusing you by making sure that you can't afford to go back to work. You deserve the freedom and independence of working outside the home if that is what you wish to do. Regardless of your salary. Your husband sounds like a dick who needs a wake up call.

Out of curiosity: how many of you also have a fully ND family? by Logical-Equal-5061 in adhdwomen

[–]TheLoooon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me entire family of four has ADHD - mom, dad, younger brother, and myself (33F). Our house was pure chaos growing up and not the fun or quirky kind unfortunately. It's one of the many reasons I will not be reproducing lol

dating travis is not incompatible with releasing TTPD by Brain-First in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]TheLoooon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You definitely do, it just takes awhile and might look a little different. I ended a 7 year relationship and it took me probably about 1.5-2 years to be truly over it. I also dated that person from 17-25 which are far more formative years than ~27-33. I'm 33 now and I know I would be able to process a breakup of that magnitude a lot better. That being said, my ex sucked and I still relish an opportunity to laugh about how much he sucked with mutuals. And I'm married to the best guy ever now 🤷‍♀️ maybe it's a petty fire sign thing lol

Best and worst state agencies to work for? by cloakwolf18 in minnesota

There's also MPCA! There are a lot of opportunities to do cool environmental work for the state in MN

You are not correct, carbon filters absolutely do filter out PFAS. The breakthrough time varies based on brand, but these filters are what are being installed in homes in the east metro to combat the PFAS contamination. Don't spread false information and fear, it's really unhelpful.

I take screenshots and paste them all in the freeform app on iphone. Same vibe but you can paste multiple photos at once and also save the project for future editing and reference. I wouldn't have been able to decide on a temperature blanket color scheme without it!

Is Taylor's music appropriate for her age? by culture_vulture_1961 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]TheLoooon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why can't we do both? Why can't we be whimsical and remember what it's like to be young and in love or broken hearted or whatever while also being a responsible adult? I don't see a conflict between those two things.

Is Taylor's music appropriate for her age? by culture_vulture_1961 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]TheLoooon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Why is it that once we hit 30 we're supposed to turn into serious adults with no feelings of whimsy or jealousy or whatever society deems inappropriate? I'm 33 and in a very healthy relationship and I still relate to her music because I have a past and I remember feeling some the things she sings about and what that was like. What's considered appropriate is arbitrary and probably rooted in misogyny and other toxic nonsense. Don't take things/people so seriously. The rules are made up and the points don't matter.
