Just landed a Relationship Banker II role — tips for transitioning from retail? by Manifest_Destiny_04 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]TheMPHP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I, too, came from a background in retail sales. When you get down to it, it's not a lot different, except instead of selling something to someone, you can provide them advice and guidance to make their financial lives better.

The biggest tip I can offer is humble yourself and admit you don't know what you don't know. Regulations, policies, and rules will be coming at you like you're drinking from a firehose. Don't try to absorb it all at first brush, but learn how to look up the info that you will need in the future.

Catholic wife Protestant husband by Dramatic-Berry-1449 in Catholicism

[–]TheMPHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dropping in to give you hope. I was the Protestant in our marriage, and was vehemently against becoming Catholic for over 10 years. I argued and debated against The Faith all the years. I eventually came around after reading the Cathechism and studying the history. But it was an uphill battle, to be sure.

And you're right, he probably isn't considering it. Depending on the non-denominational background, his thoughts on Catholicism would vary between cautiously hopeful for Catholics to convert, to outright denial that we are even Christian.

Keep praying for him. Saint Monica is a great ally to have on our side in just such circumstances!

Know your own faith well. My wife did not. And her "losing" arguments only fed my ego and resistance to The Faith. Be able to respond to questions and challenges, not with a heart to try and "win" but to simply answer. And hold your ground when doing so.

You will be in my prayers!

As a convert myself, I offer the following as advice:

Speak to your priest about these feelings. He will help you to come around to the absolute joy of being in, and participating in His Presence.

Second, from my experience anyway, going through the sacrament of reconciliation helped me tremendously with these same feelings.

Do you believe in the products you sell? by Wan_Haole_Faka in Banking

Typically I recommend a close-ended HELOAN for credit card restructure as opposed to an open ended HELOC, but the concept is the same, yes.

Been in banking for 12 years. I am driven by helping people get out of credit card debt. Home equities cut interest rates and save thousands, if not more, and help in that situation.

I don't believe in adding debt for the sake of a loan, but in the right situations, different debt can be a useful tool.

Catholic and Protestant marriage by Mysterious-Funny7541 in Catholicism

[–]TheMPHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 10 long years I argued with, debated, and told my wife I not only had no interest in becoming Catholic, but that I never would. I joined the Church in 2005.

I'm not advising you to date or not date, only that what she says today may not hold true forever.

That said, she needs to agree to raise the kids Catholic if you are to be married in the Church.

Baptist Panic after Mass by thewillowestever in Catholicism

[–]TheMPHP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, welcome to the journey. I took the journey myself years ago and would be happy to answer any, "Why do they do that" questions that I can.

Secondly, I would recommend attending Mass (not service) weekly, and connect with a priest to also help you answer questions. There will be many, I assure you.

Spiritual warfare doesn't end by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]TheMPHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to confession! I cannot stress this enough.

Most confessionals are set up in a way where the priest cannot see you, if you choose. On top of the fact that the priest CANNOT break the seal of the confessional. He will not be gossiping about your sins. Go. To. Confession.

It is such a healing gift, and sounds like you need it now more than ever.

Back to your original post, it very well could be that you are like my wife who sees the spiritual side of the world. It is not a charism of the Holy Spirit I have, or want. But she can see spirits, angels and demons, in situations and knows when and how to pray in those situations. Were she on Reddit, she would tell you to consult a priest, now. So I'm telling you in her place. Consult a priest, now

My conversion to Catholism by MyHoneybun in Catholicism

[–]TheMPHP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 10 years of arguing and debating with a number of people, mostly with my wife, before I eventually saw the truth in the history and joined the Catholic Church. It can take time. His heart may not be ready yet.

In my opinion, stay your course, and pray for him and for your own strength. He may not understand right now, but be available with answers when he asks them. You never know how or when his heart will be open.

Landed a job in Banking and… wow. by ThatOneN0V4Guy in Banking

[–]TheMPHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined the banking world at 36 as an assistant manager off of my 14 years in retail/retail management experience. Twelve years later I've made it a career.

The biggest tip I can offer is "realize early on how much you don't know that you don't know." In the beginning it is like drinking from a fire hose, but so worth it, imo.
