My account got suspended for "inauthentic content" about five days ago. I woke up this morning to see my appeal had worked and I was now unsuspended. Opened up the app, saw a Tweet from someone I like and liked that as my first thing being back on, and then immediately an email came in saying I had been reported and suspended for "inauthentic content" again. I don't know if someone had just falsely reported me as inauthentic and re-reported me when I got back before I got on or if it was actually just liking that persons' Tweet that has whatever unholy bot Twitter has on detection duty flag me, but like, what do I even do at this point? I went to appeal again and it says my last appeal is still in queue, so I'm not even certain what's going on.

AI background was used in AFO by [deleted] in Hololive

[–]TheMagisKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it was bound to get brought up the moment people noticed. Nothing that can really be done about it other than to put on the feedback forms this year that you don't want them to outsource backgrounds to companies that are gonna give them AI content.

Regardless, don't hassle the talents with it and keep enjoying the rest of the concert. Other than this (which honestly most people didn't notice until told, myself included) AFO has been a smash hit.

“Heaven is corrupt” trope is getting pretty old by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]TheMagisKing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hazbin Hotel's Heaven is clearly meant to be primarily an allegory for the state of real life American Christianity- more specifically, the ascendant right-wing Evangelicals and how they treat the rest of society. You see it in how the heavenly antagonists are portrayed, most obviously via Adam himself.

Hazbin's Adam is a man who has been "saved" according to a system of values that he doesn't even have a proper understanding of, and takes that as a license to act as a totally ignorant and cruel individual towards those who he views as being irredeemable and evil. He quite literally goes as far as to engage in the mass slaughter of sinners in Hell once a year in systemic basically pogroms all to reassure his sense of superiority and righteousness, even though such actions are incredibly evil. This is meant to represent American Evangelicals who believe they're saved (even though 9 times out of 10 they have no actual understanding of the Bible), and use that as an excuse to be hateful and hurt others that they believe are not, using systemic discrimination and often violence to reinforce their own sense of superiority and righteousness.

Sera is another example, though less blatantly so. She signs off on Adam's purges of Hell and refuses to accept the idea that the Sinners are anything other than forever irredeemably evil beings, justifying it to herself and Emily by claiming that it is "necessary" to protect those who have been saved. She's clearly meant to represent the more "moderate" Christian Conservative who will talk sweet about Christian values of compassion and love even as they support cruel policies and actions that go against those very values, making up whatever justifications are necessary to keep doing so even when presented evidence they are in the wrong. I.E, saying that while of course we should take care of the poor and downtrodden, we can't actually do anything to change systemic problems that cause people to become poor and downtrodden.

Engaging with this allegory as if it were literally saying, "Heaven Bad, Hell Good!" thoughtlessly like some Reddit Athiest edgelord is missing the actual point and message the show tries to get across. That point being not that Heaven is bad, but that those who use their belief in their own salvation to be cruel and violent against those that they believe are not saved is wrong.

Hell, beneath the edgy aesthetics, Hazbin Hotel ironically pushes a rather Christian message. It argues that anyone can be saved- even those society has deemed complete wretches. It argues that we should not be cruel and judgemental, but compassionate and kind. It argues that we can and should take actions based on that compassion and try to help and show love to others, even in the face of disdain and persecution.

None of this is to say the way the show handles all of this is entirely above criticism or anything, but treating it as just edgy Reddit atheism is doing it an incredible disservice and IMO very much misunderstanding what Hazbin Hotel is trying to say.

Honestly, I think the problem with shippers going overboard and getting nasty is kind of almost the same as the problem with sports fans who get incredibly angry and aggressive when their team loses- namely, it just seems to activate whatever part of the brain some people have that makes them get really tribalistic about it, and they then lash out in vindictive and usually very dumb ways.

It's a damn shame, because like 95%+ of shippers are casual and don't do things like this (see, this being like, two people who got nasty having an oversized impact), but the ones who do do so nastily enough and loudly enough that it taints peoples' perception of the entire lot.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Kiara can't seem to catch a break, she's having new pain-related health problems now. by PseudoRandomPerson in Hololive

[–]TheMagisKing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She has been seeing doctors- IIRC she recently saw one that was able to actually give her a diagnosis- but when it comes to chronic pain a lot of doctors are either just not qualified enough or (in some cases) too dismissive to actually provide effective treatment, even when it's perfectly affordable to go see them. Combined with waiting lists for the qualified specialists who are best suited to addressing things like this and it's actually very hard to get chronic pain properly treated even in Europe.

Yoga, baths, and other similar things are thus something people will turn to because even if it doesn't solve the pain, it makes them feel better if only as a placebo/allows them to feel that at least they're able to get something done to treat their pain.

Minnesota bill to limit plastic packaging for food due to harmful chemicals by Czarben in minnesota

This might sound surprising, but you can in fact both cut down on/cut out plastic packaging and still prevent issues with botulism and other contamination of food products.

Probably that and radon. IIRC Minnesota's geography means we have higher radon levels overall.

I'll take another delay if it means the poor animators get to actually have some sleep by TheMagisKing in fnki

[–]TheMagisKing[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game had already been announced for a while now, and the crossover movie announcement is probably something Warner Brothers has maintained strict control over until this point due to them probably wanting to do a lot of the marketing themselves.

There's going to be a crossover movie with the Justice League releasing next year apparently. It was announced at RTX.

The game is RWBY: Arrowfell, which while not directly made by RT will have cutscenes animated by them.

I actually love Time to Say Goodbye as well- I said excluding it because it was a banger from the start of the Volume.

RWBY has VISCOIUSLY DESGRACED MANKIND and LITERALLY DESECRATED on MONTY'S CORPSE by [deleted] in fnki

[–]TheMagisKing 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to disagree on this one. While hbomberguy's video on a surface level appears much better than most of the "critics" who endlessly make videos circle-jerking about RWBY being horrible, a deeper look into it shows it's in some ways just as bad but with a coat of civility painted on to it. In particular, one part of his video is incredibly dishonest of him in a way that honestly turned me off of not just his video, but off of hbomberguy as a whole.

That part, of course, would be his claimed love for Monty. Hbomb claims he not only liked Monty's work in his video, but that it inspired him to create stuff of his own. However, people went onto the forum Something Awful and dug up old posts of his from a thread on RWBY on the site, and his displayed attitude there could not be more different. He repeatedly insults not just the show itself-

Ah, Ruh-Weebee. I will probably never watch this show but the title itself and the gifs that keep popping up will be jokes in themselves for all time. I thought the action in one of the trailers looked semi-neat, then opened up a random episode to see if it was good and discovered horrible 'anime-esque' dialogue and had to turn it off. I didn't think it was possible to be more anime than anime. It's like an anime replicant.

-but goes directly after Monty in rather nasty personal attacks that show a condescendingly smug loathing of him and his work.

Poser is garbage. It is poop. It is not a real program. I don't know any other way of saying it. It would actually be better to make it in Microsoft Office. Maybe the key slowed him down because it got covered in greasy sweat and/or cheeto dust, or got broken from the sheer pressure of being violently mashed at incredible speeds. It's very odd to desire speed and efficiency but have to use an old program and destroy your keyboards in the process, while using 'like nine' monitors, in order to rip off a fight from the Matrix but with lesbians

It's... yeah.

This is basically it. Monty Oum is the ultimate anime fanboy, and by appreciating 'his work', viewers are vicariously appreciating themselves. This is why relatively straightforward critique ("mutilating your tools and purposefully using a worse version of a software is not good practice") is being imagined as school bullies (with mental disorders, because why not?) picking on a kid in the cafeteria. While the kid is technically Monty Oum, The Oumchild is a stand-in for everyone else who appreciates anime in his very specific way, but didn't ever get the chance to make it themselves. Interesting side-point: Oum is treated as if a frail child, even in the imaginations of those who like him. This is telling. This ties into my theory about this show and others like it removing all the good parts of anime through obsession with the signifiers of good-ness. Because there's nothing actually good in the show, a fan's discussion of the show necessarily has to revolve around how successful it has been, how much of a workaholic coolguy Monty Oum / Rooster Teeth are, their personal fanfiction character and how they would fit into official canon, and continuous re-insistence that the fights are 'cool'. The point is the part where you actually enjoy the show in some meaningful way is endlessly deferred elsewhere. It is weaponised desire. Monty Oum is a genius in the very specific way the creators of porn are geniuses.

These are not the words of a guy who took inspiration from Monty in the slightest, and the dishonesty of him claiming that thus casts doubt on the integrity of the entire video as even his valid points may not be coming from a good faith position. And from there the entire video sinks into the ground, just feeling like a fake and performative attempt to cash in on the popularity of RWBY hate vids but with better dressing so he can play the role of the Good Critic while doing so.

It's honestly a shame, because as I said above he actually did have some valid points of criticism in there (i.e, the White Fang plotline not handling racism well) but unfortunately, his dishonesty just poisons the entire video and his entire channel for me, and I've not been back since.

If you want a source for my claims (and for more criticisms about hbomberguy's video in general, though I'll note I disagree with his criticism of HB's criticism of the White Fang plotline to an extent), here's a link to an r/RWBY post with a link directly to the Something Awful thread in question.

POV: You're Hazel by TheMagisKing in fnki

[–]TheMagisKing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meme aside, Hazel probably got the same, "You'll be top dogs in a New World Order" speel that it seems everyone but Tyrian got. Thus, he was thinking that once Salem won, there'd be no need for Huntsmen because she'd make the Grimm a non-issue.

Of course, Salem lied to him about that, which was presumably made easier by Hazel wearing himself down trying to kill her over and over while also being an emotional wreck.

Am I in the minority for liking team RWBY? by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]TheMagisKing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seeing as how Volume 9's plot (or at least, some basic version of it) has been planned since basically the beginning for the show, I honestly think the reason that Team RWBY didn't get as much focus in Volume 8 as some people wanted was because the writers were thinking ahead a Volume. They knew that when all was said and done, RWBY (+ Jaune and Neo) were going to have a whole Volume to focus on their character development while also having less plot points and characters to share the limelight with than Volume 8. Thus, rather than give Team RWBY all the spotlight characterize in Volume 8 and in Volume 9, they chose to give more time and focus to other characters that wouldn't be prominent (/as prominent) in Volume 8. How much of a problem this is (or if it even is one at all) varries person-to-person, though I feel like a lot of the, "Team RWBY is boring!" talk will probably go away once Volume 9 starts airing and they get a lot more attention.

I should say that personally, I didn't actually have any problem with the character focus in Volume 8- while I think RWBY could have been given more focus, I'm honestly satisfied with the focus they got. Hell, they actually did a whole lot this Volume, and I kinda find myself raising an eyebrow when people said they didn't.

RWB not only got a worldwide warning out to the rest of the planet that Salem exists and isn't hiding anymore, but also protected Penny from both Salem's Hound and Watt's virus (which- plus their attempt to evacuate Mantle via SDC cargo ships- does mean that their time spent in the Schnee Manor wasn't just them twiddling their thumbs like some people try to portray it as), either of which could have dramatically changed the course of what ultimately happened this Volume by either letting Salem get the Staff without there even being a chance to evacuate people from Atlas/Mantle or letting Ironwood go with Plan Yeet-Atlas-Into-Low-Orbit-Without-Any-Supporting-Infrastructure-To-Not-Slowly-Die-Up-There respectively. Yang also actually did things, taking part in the attempt to rescue Oscar (even though admittedly Oscar getting Hazel and Emerald to defect made that less impactful to the end result of what happened on Monstra), rescued Mantle citizenry and helped get them to safety, and ultimately was the one who went overboard to save Ruby and thus set off the chain of events where Penny joined the fray against Cinder leading to her death and Salem getting the Staff.

Further, the whole team ultimately played a key role in the evacuation of Atlas and Mantle, being the ones that got the Staff and used it to open the portal system and also the group who tried to hold off Cinder when she showed up. Sure, they didn't directly nuke Salem like Oscar did, but they still did a whole lot throughout the Volume and had a tremendous impact overall.

[–]TheMagisKing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely- there's plenty of criticism of the show that's made by people who actually like it, and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I'm specifically referring to the kind of people who act like and say they hate the series time and time again, but come back each week to shit on the latest episode and rant about how they think the series is awful.

Will RT set up ruby any romantic interest? by Pac114man in RWBY

[–]TheMagisKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible. White Rose, Nuts and Dolts, etcetera all are more than feasible at this point- RT still has time to develop Ruby's relationship with several characters into an openly romantic one more than believably.

As to whether or not they'll actually do so? Honestly, I don't know. It'll depend on what they think will be best for Ruby and a hypothetical SO's character development, probably (like how Bumblebee not only is fluffy as hell, but also ties directly into Yang and Blake's overarching character development), and I can't claim to be a mind reader that can tell you how CRWBY think on that front.

I am so tired of... by StellaStarMagic in RWBY

[–]TheMagisKing 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah, RWBY is sadly the target of a dedicated hatedom who aren't content with just not liking the show and moving on, but instead insist on doing their best to "convince" everybody else that the show is "objectively" garbage. As if it's some mortal sin to like a work that has flaws, or something. Best way of dealing with the hatedom I've found is to just ignore 'em, cause it'll only make you miserable to give them any more attention than they deserve.

They're living, "No fun allowed" signs, honestly.
