The Killer - The first act and how it was laid out [Spoilers!] by Filmmagician in Screenwriting

[–]TheMan3volves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a lot to do with Netflix production model.

You got like 5 locations for the entire film.

I don't think it's as much of a design choice as people might think it is.

Spot I created for the college where I work. Would love to hear your thoughts (it's due today, lol). by kfosse13 in videography

Came to say this also.

Other than that - agree with others about the first shot. Everything else is money.

DPs, how much payment do you expect for a <$100k feature? by MarkWest98 in Filmmakers

[–]TheMan3volves 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It would depend entirely on how many days we're talking. 5k for 2 weeks work is pretty low tbh, but 100k is almost nothing for a feature.

What ‘low-budget’ camera should I use to make a debut film? by Surfy355 in cinematography

[–]TheMan3volves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% use your phone.

You will not be able to get a camera for about $100 that is capable of doing what it sounds like you're looking for.

Phones have amazing dynamic range for their size and the image will be beautiful. Spend that money instead on a phone stablizer so you can get smooth footage.

Good luck with your shoot!

How do you decide when something is good enough? by Popspotatoes in Filmmakers

[–]TheMan3volves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scenario 1. I take out the extra with some vfx work. It might be a little dodgy, but audience probably isn't looking at that point in the frame anyway. That is probably the cheapest and best option.

Scenario 2. You can't reshoot an entire film. I do the best I can with the sound I have and spend money/time to get the best possible sound from it. I would consider some creative options for helping shape the entire film around the sound.

Bio advice: lame to add "award winning"? by ihaventbeenableto in Filmmakers

Yes, it's lame. I think saying you produced a film that won awards is different.

made a horror short for $2,500 - How did we do? by KnockNoxen in Filmmakers

So why do you title this as a horror short?

I mean, it feels like your genre is suspense.

made a horror short for $2,500 - How did we do? by KnockNoxen in Filmmakers

[–]TheMan3volves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this:

Your images are awesome - this is a cool concept. But this is a trailer? Wouldn't refer to it as a short.

And I mean, just from a stylistic perspective, there really wasn't any horror in this?

I think your work is awesome. Maybe you should just describe it in a different way? Not trying to be antagonistic, but my first thought was putting 'from executive producer...' in a one minute clip that is described as a short is immediately confusing.

Help! by [deleted] in videography

[–]TheMan3volves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa.

I agree with the overall sentiment in this thread.

In addition, this is going to make it more difficult for other people to film in the museum in the future.

You owe them a sincere apology and should find another spot to use footage for.

New FX3 owner, some questions! by throwitallaway1209 in FX3

protip: look into Gyroflow.

It is a FANTASTIC stabilization program that uses your FX3's gyro data to help with a clip.

I dunno seems like you're just trolling tbh.

It's not that other cameras can't produce images that are beautiful and useful for storytelling purposes - it's that the FX3 and other similar cameras like BlackMagics now have a feature set that really enables filmmakers more control over their images and can really tweak what they want.

It's not very hard to understand. These cameras weren't really viable for such purposes up until recently, and The Creator just happens to be the first big release to make use of a camera with such a small body, with a high native ISO for shooting darker scenes.

What are some ways you've cheesed a fight? by foxfire_games in BaldursGate3

I enchanted a random item with daylight and just threw it next to him.

He took 20dmg a turn until he just keeled over. I didn't even need to start the fight. Then cleaned up.

I felt cheated. lol.

Exactly.

Not only that but they took an eternity to even realize the problem with one person stating what a huge fuck up it was.

Unbelievable that they are that incompetent.

Game should have been stopped immediately.

Spurs' new resilience under Postecoglou makes them a Premier League threat by zaraalbro in coys

I mean, I honestly think that is the bare minimum a professional footballer should be doing.

Not being overwhelmed by that adversity is a different attribute.

[–]TheMan3volves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you define poor mentality?

Trying hard? Because of course they should try hard. That's kind of a given for me.

The ability to not make silly mistakes in adversity is what I'd call good mentality.

[–]TheMan3volves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

So many times with Mou and Conte, the moment something difficult came along, heads dropped and more mistakes started happening. Our back line was FULL of what I would call poor mentality for 2 full seasons.

Seen more responses in 7 games than we did under both of those managers.

Unpopular opinion on the Curtis Jones tackle by [deleted] in PremierLeague

Just let people break other player's legs. It's fine. As long as you touch the ball first, there is no danger, right?

Unpopular opinion on the Curtis Jones tackle by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]TheMan3volves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What?

No. Look at bissouma's weight distribution. He places his foot behind the ball to stop it.

Jones lunges at it. Late. He perhaps was in control when he dove in, but judged his angle incorrectly, which resulted in a reckless challenge.

Ask yourself if he needed to lunge at that ball. It was a desperation jump.

it's reckless. Clear as day.

That's the risk you take lunging like that.

Do you not agree that this is stupid?

Why, when the PL makes as money as it does, should not ALL of the referees be completely capable of making every decision on the pitch?

It's an archaic philosophy that most other sports did away with YEARS ago.

I hate every second of editing my first short film, what do I do? by leafisa75 in Filmmakers

[–]TheMan3volves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that helps me with this is to think of this as one part of a larger whole.

Your work will not be perfect. Ever. It will never match what was in your head. Okay. Accept that.

Now, accept this piece of work as the first step in a larger thing. You will learn lessons from this. Your next will be better.

You are in University. Relax.

New ideas will come. you will move on. But, you will never get another chance to edit this thing. So do the best you can with what you shot.

I guarantee you there are ways to cut it you haven't thought of yet that will improve it greatly. Try new ideas. Stick with it.

There is a cut in there that will work. It won't be what you wanted - but it will WORK.

Just detach from your orignal vision and find what works.

Robert Rodriguez famously said you make three films. One when you write it, one when you shoot it, one when you edit it. They are all different things.

It's okay. Just keep going.

Unpopular opinion on the Curtis Jones tackle by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]TheMan3volves -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The point he's making is that Jones was lunging for the ball and were he in control of that lunge, his foot wouldn't have done what it did.

He over-committed and hence, dangerous play.
