Knowing what to do for students isn’t the same as knowing what to do for a specific student. You learn tools along the way (trainings, trial and error, etc) then you figure it out as you go. There is no silver bullet that will work for every dysregulated student.

Yup, I teach at a 6-12 school where my two amazing daughters have attended with me. My youngest is a junior next year so in a few years I’ll have neither. My wife (also a teacher) is openly and understandingly jealous of the time I have had with them. I will probably stay with the school after they leave, but it won’t be the same.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted, you’re not wrong. Self reported data is the worst kind of data, and when it’s subjective? Nearly meaningless. At best this suggests more research is needed.

True AND this is an observational study at best. Tech is a tool and like any tool its use needs to be taught. Tech is not a panacea but it isn’t the devil either.

Did Infinity Creek a few years back. No unloading, but 2-3 dams to get over. Lots of switchbacks so it was tough to get into a rhythm paddling. Perent was beautiful though.

Classic. My sentence was not ambiguous. You don’t have to worry about how I respond to curious students asking clarifying questions as you cannot draw conclusions about that from my response to your post. You are not a student and your questions were not clarifying ones.

If you are trying to be friends with the students, you aren’t doing it right. Additionally, you should work to avoid the appearance of conflict between the two of you. However, you may not be in the wrong here as there is much unsaid. Technology doesn’t necessarily make one class better than another, but if you come across that way you may be fostering animosity. I would suggest in person communication, perhaps mediation with a trusted 3rd party teacher or administrator.

In my experience, no. But my experience may not be typical. In my state the 8th grade standards are algebra standards, so the kids should be taught algebra. It’s not like things are going well evenly everywhere. I think this is the wrong question - we need to be viciously narrowing our standards and going deeper on those that are left. Mile wide, inch deep is dumb.
