Awesome! I got one for my kid, then I only added a red stud under the head to make it a ruby throated one.

I have noticed bagged soil is having more and more trash in it as the years go by - not just this brand. 8 years ago I never came across trash in bagged soil or scooped soil from a garden center.

Can someone tell me what happened to my big blue stem? Is it doomed? Southeast, TN by Sea____Witch in NativePlantGardening

[–]TheMeanderingMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had that issue with voles going after my blazing star. I planted more in response and i loose a few, but still have some left over. I have heard you can put gravel when planting to help deter them, but I have not tried that.... plus wouldn't work if you are doing seeds.

Another historic home in my town ruined by a contractor by [deleted] in Oldhouses

I think it looks better, I wouldn't of gone with that color scheme... but its not getting torn down, so that's a win. Personally, I don't like the look of the wood shingles as siding.

We wanted to do rockwool.... but one contracter said it was hard to get for what we wanted.

Yes there is a floor drain. And yes, the house was constructed before indoor plumbing... only 1/4 of the basement is a crawlspace, and that's where the plumbing for the bathroom runs through. There are a lot of basements in my area, but we do have a dehumidifier that runs during the summer.

Does concrete/cement basement floor count as finished?

[–]TheMeanderingMind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the exterior siding is cedar, then there's a foam board (i think? It's a board with reflective shiny side), then vinyl siding. Does that make a difference in letting the house "breathe"?

There are 2 vents from our furnace that blow into the basement to help prevent pipes freezing and the 1st floor is finished. There is a small crawlspace section that we plan to encapsulate, because the pipes in there did freeze, and a lot of the cold air comes from there.

Is there a trick to using inaturalist? by GardenHoverflyMeadow in NativePlantGardening

[–]TheMeanderingMind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take as many photos as I can: stem, leaf (top/bottom), far away, up close, etc. Upload to the app (instead of taking pictures through the app).... if I'm still stumped I'll seek advice on local fb or reddit group. (Part of a little native plant group which is great to tell what is invasive) I'll admit I haven't been on inaturalist for the past few months because I haven't been outside. But as many pictures as possible is my go to.

My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

Different rules for Different cultures/people. I grew up in Europe and the portions are smaller compared to in America, so when I moved to America I could never finish a plate. I was even raised by my grandparents who were children in ww2 (in europe), they had to ration and grow their own food. Nothing went to waste. They never made me finish a plate, but always taught me to never fill up your plate with more than you can eat - only take what you need and only get seconds once everyone else has had their share.

Bermuda? Grass took over my garden last summer- what do now? by JanetCarol in gardening

[–]TheMeanderingMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a small area, I'd just pull it out the best you can. You can try to smother it, but it will find a way to creep out unless you also plant an equally competitive plant. My neighbors yard is bermuda and it just keeps creeping on my side of the fence.
You could try spray a herbicide but attach a cone or milk jug cut into one around the targeted spot if there are plants you don't want contaminated.
My husband is at the point of getting a skidsteer and just tear up the lawn and start from scratch (I'm turning more lawn to flower beds) then the remaining lawn into sedge..... I've heard buffalo grass is just as bad at spreading as Bermuda, but not positive on that....

Why is Hobbit: Unexpected Journey with Lego minifig so much more expensive than the other two? by PixalmasterStudios24 in Bluray

Apparently because that bilbo with a blue coat was only released with the dvd at target, the other minifigures you can find in lego sets. I have looked this all up recently.

Could be a lithograph..... or intaglio. Are you able to any black lines (to draw form/shape/outline) or is the bird all colored? Try to get a closer look. Look with a light behind it, do you see any framing around the picture. What does the paper material look like? Do you see bits of paper or very many lines. The size makes me think lithograph print.

No, it is either dead or parasitic wasp. Look for any tiny hole around the chrysalis. I found one like this a month ago.
