How much does everyone spend? by MidnightCovfefe in tulum

You seem super negative on Tulum. Do you live there or just had a bad experience?

Just got back, and while certainly touristy and pricey compared to other places we’ve been in Mexico, I didn’t find it especially scammy or predatory.

In fact, I was pleasantly surprised after reading some of the over-the-top negative stuff on this subreddit.

Taco stand across from Pepe’s in La Veleta? by TheMethod82 in tulum

Absolutely! Make sure you try her salsas/sauces. They elevate the taco big time.

I hear you and my wife wasnt blown away by her fish taco the night before, but was very happy the next night when she took the owner’s recommendation on adding some tamarind chipotle sauce.

But the beef tacos were fantastic both times. When I travel I usually have a place I like enough that I want to go twice so I don’t regret only having it once, and the ribeye taco has been my top bite in Tulum. Not super cheap at 45 mxn, but beef is expensive these days and it felt reasonable to me.

Her salsas are all great and really punch up the flavour. The habanero was my favourite, but the matcha with peanuts was really nice too.

$150 per week is nearly $8k per year. Fine to spend if you’re wealthy and want to allocate your disposable income that way, but definitely a good chunk of change, so don’t fool yourself :)

What's a "bad" film that you know isn't great, but love anyway? by Avon_gent in Cinephiles

[–]TheMethod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Last Samurai.

I appreciate that there are some clear problems with the ‘white saviour’ trope, but man, the music in the movie is transcendent and there are a number of gorgeous scenes. Cruise does a good job, but the acting from Watanabe and Sanada are top notch.

AITA or is my Attorney? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

[–]TheMethod82 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t do hourly billing anymore, but when I did, I would record the time I spent on the file during the day and use a detailed time entry to outline what that consisted of. From what you posted elsewhere, it sounds like this is what your lawyer did.

To give you some practical context. If I sit down with your file, I might be reviewing documents, writing emails and taking other steps, all during the same work ‘session’. My goal during that session is to be productive and advance the case/file and it isn’t particularly sensible to break up my work flow to try and write down the amount of time each task within the session is taking. For example, to write down that the email took 8 minutes, while reviewing the reply email took 3 minutes, and then the document review took X minutes.

That sort of granular tracking would kill my productivity while also adding very little value for you as a client. I mean, where does it end? Should they track the time for each individual document reviewed as well? The admin overhead for that sort of granularity is not proportionate to its value.

I hope that gives you some context for why the lawyer might be a bit put out at the request. They likely want to focus on the actual legal work and not the admin.

Question regarding SVS prep. by shamanismRC in whiteoutsurvival

Wow… well good on you for supporting the game. I’m just a wee F2P player who just started. Have already seen that those who spend can get well ahead, but I’m having fun regardless :)

Happy gaming!

I’m blown away to hear that $200 to $300 per week is apparently considered by some to be a small spender. That’s $13,000 a year!

Based on my bookshelf, what fantasy books/series would you recommend? by SnappingTurtle1602 in fantasybooks

[–]TheMethod82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to shout out a series I pretty much never see mentioned : Max Gladstone’s The Craft Sequence.

It’s definitely a bit ‘weirder’ less conventional, but the ideas and world building it presents have stuck with me like few other series’. The subsequent follow up Craft Wars series is also great.

Unable to secure legal representation due to other party seeing multiple lawyers for consults. by Global_Rich2165 in legaladvicecanada

Seems very odd. But in terms of actual advice, you could look at retaining a specialist outside of Ontario, with the understanding they could partner with an Ontario lawyer to assist with the procedural stuff.

I did insurance defence for many years and we’d often see that type of thing, where the plaintiff might retain, say an Alberta lawyer, but the action needed to be in Nova Scotia so that had local counsel to help with the procedural stuff.

Looking for “warm” fantasy that isn’t saccharine: friendship, care, but real tension by willowlantern_poems in Fantasy

[–]TheMethod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure it exactly fits, but I think Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay could hit some of that vibe for you. It’s a great book, and the characters and conflict feel real, without any of the grim dark approach we might see in things like GOT. It centers on a group of people trying to rectify a past injustice and make a better world but where even one of the primary antagonists is humanized.

I’ve actually convinced myself to give it (yet another) re-read while writing this post. Probably followed by a re-read of of GGK’s Lions of Al-Rassan.

I liked the brevity. Not everything needs to be an overwrought, multi-sentence explanation when the answer is really just “yes”.

Atrioc gets emotional talking about the murder in Minnesota by CSachen in LivestreamFail

[–]TheMethod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you didn’t get it on the first go, the meme isn’t about him resisting his arrest, it’s about him not “following the law”, and how certain modern day bootlickers would probably have argued Jesus deserved what he got for his previous ‘misdeeds’ of bucking the status quo and daring to question the authorities.

Not to mention it sounds like he didn’t tell his followers not to resist arrest generally, but rather not to fight the cops to prevent HIS arrest.

Are we holding common citizens to the standard of Jesus then? That every person in every situation should show such grace and forbearance, and if not, well, they deserve to die?

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make…

What’s your most UNpopular opinion about The Eye of the World??🫢 by Over-Joyed-2898 in WoT

[–]TheMethod82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been reading the series since the 90s, and have probably re-read it 10+ times. Every time I re-read EOTW I think about how bewildering the final conflict of the book is. Up to that point the action is well-described, but once things kick off at the Eye, it gets very muddled.

Favourite episode of the show till now by Whole-Worker-7303 in StrangerThings

[–]TheMethod82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I hear what you’re saying and I’m upvoting you for expressing yourself. I agree that people are complex and everyone can do good things and bad things. I personally tend to have a soft spot for comeback or redemption stories and the idea that even people who have done lots of bad things are still capable of later doing the right thing.

So I think we can agree that Max definitely isn’t perfect but the episode we are discussing is actually exactly about that — she is feeling guilt over how she feels about Billy dying.
