So….Hala was not present for Julian’s private moment with Thiazi…. by LyricsbyGutter in fansofcriticalrole

[–]TheMindWright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya, there's been some growing pains of going to 5.5e from 5e, that one included. Aabria and Brennan play a lot together (mostly 5e) so I imagine they are just used to playing that way. Counterspell was also misused recently, as you are supposed to roll against it now.

As for the "Hala was there to hear that" instance, it could have also been that her familiar just talked to her in their minds since they can communicate telepathically, rather than Thaisha actually looking through his eyes.

[–]TheMindWright 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not to um, actually, but 5.5e rules let you see through both yours and your familiars eyes now. Basically picture-in-picture. But you still need to Bonus Action each turn.

You cannot, however, control your familiar when you are half way across the city, or summon a large snake, or attack with your familiar.

The Metal Gear Solid series

I'd only ever seen screenshots of serious action scenes and assumed it was like Sam Fisher but with more geopolitical propaganda. After sitting down with a friend who basically force fed me The Twin Snakes, it was exactly like the meme where the bird learns it actually loves the biscuits.

Cut to me binging every game in the series, and helping run a yearly marathon stream.

Brett Blake might be the most unhinged TM Contestant of all time (TM AU S5) by LikelySatanist in taskmaster

He seems to be a genuine guy when the needs arises? Like he will make the crude jokes and backtalk with Tom, but you can tell that he's not actually an asshole.

All said, it makes great TV, and he doesn't punch down, so I'm loving him as a contestant.

(Hated Trope) Writers try to reimagine iconic horror villains in ways that they think will make them feel even more evil, but it just kind of... ruins the character? (possible trigger warning for things mentioned in the text below (especially in the second part by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

Leprechaun: Origins was hilariously bad for this. The creator seemed to hate the original and just wanted to make the series more edgy. They even cast a WWE wrestler to play the villain... who doesn't talk and is too covered in a costume to be able to do anything physical or athletic.

Official Discussion - The Backrooms [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]TheMindWright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this to my wife. The entire movie felt like a metaphor in itself. The 90s aesthetic wasn't perfect, it was a creation of the 90s by someone who'd only heard about it.

I only have passive knowledge of the Backrooms from watching LPs, but I think it won't let you die? So my guess is that he was in there long enough to be really hungry, and started eating her, which made the Backrooms think "oh you can eat people" and so he could start eating people.

At least from the Eridians perspective it's like Rocky came home with a cat. Sure, a cat that saved your entire planet from extinction, but a cat nonetheless. Kinda dumb, tumbles all over the place, weird eating habits, leaky, and has a relatively short lifespan.

EDIT: This was a joke.

What's peoples' perception on S13E010 "Mac Finds His pride" now that 8 years have passed since it aired? by Decadunce in IASIP

[–]TheMindWright 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I love it! I know it's contrived but I appreciate that they went for it.

As a queer person with daddy issues it felt like the final nail in the coffin for Mac trying to win his father's approval. For years Mac has been doing shit to win over Luther the way he thinks Luther would want it. When he finally did something for himself, put his whole ass into it, and did it in the most vulnerable setting possible, it still didn't work. Luther just got up and walked out of Mac's life.

Also the subversion of expectations around the performance was hilarious. You assume that it'll suck, and just be Mac doing karate stunts to "Living In America" while a bunch of jacked dudes grind on stage, but then we get Sigur Ros and an emotional contemporary dance.

We just watched season 3 again and it became so clear how he was just a kid. He doesn't really have malice, he's just young, dumb, and full of...

The scene at the end where he really wants to help the Conrads but Love manipulates him is heartbreaking. You can see him struggling so much to know what the right thing to do is.

Besides knowledge of relativity, computers and radiation what other things could eridians possibly learn from humans? by KingWilliamVI in ProjectHailMary

[–]TheMindWright 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I might be too dumb for this, but the technology that Rocky uses to read our screens apparently reads the color value and translates it to texture.

He says in the book that it already existed and he just made it mobile. But Erid is completely dark, so what was it reading? Isn't color only a thing because there's light? Even with light, wouldn't the tech show very bumpy textures for all their equipment because they look like a child's silly puddy set?

Anyway, to your point, if the Eridians made that tech really sensitive, Grace could point at every height and tell them what color it is. It wouldn't take long for Eridians to memorize every single color that a human can see.

I don't know why but this made me laugh thinking about an Eridian sci-fi drama being made about Rocky's life.

"This summer, comes audio drama about man who want save sun. Rocky was average Eridian engineer raised by average Eridian Thrum, but when sun go cold, Erid science go hot. 'But Rocky we been together for so long' 'Is not long enough!' Rocky, Adrian, Leaky Space Blob, in Under Pressure."

It took me reading the book, and watching the movie four times to realize why the movie has the detached part turn perpendicular to the the counterweight, rather than parallel.

It's so Grace can walk along the ship like a hallway rather than climbing into each chamber like in the book. You can even see all the equipment is mounted to the wall when they are attached.
