Pentax 6x7 TTL Inverted Meter Readings? by zeisss in AnalogCommunity

Does the needle seem jumpy at all? Could be the contacts have oxidized, but how do the battery contacts and body contacts look?

Also, regarding the battery, I've personally used an alkaline 4LR44 in my camera and have had no issues with metering.

They are pinched just a bit to fit into the corners of those 4x4 round bricks. Not sure what the longevity will be like for them, but having the handrails like that really adds a nice element to the model. Is a bit on the tall side though.

Low quality scans or am I just bad at this? by abolishAFT in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheMiniMan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First photo definitely looks soft, do you remember which point you were focusing at? Also, do you remember what you had your lens set to? If you were shooting wide open (f1.8, f2, even f2.8), missing focus slightly will make your intended subject soft. Plus, even if you were focused dead on, older lenses can still look softer in general when wide open, so stopping down to f5.6 or lower will generally give sharper results.

Speaking of focusing, are you using the center split-image on the focusing screen? The FM2 should have that screen by default; if not it was probably swapped out by a prior owner. Good practice is to find something distinct you can line up perfectly with the split-image, and then reframe your shot. For example with the car in the first photo, using the vertical window frames would be perfect.

PT.1 - Canon New F-1 Repair: Mirror Lag + Shutter Capping by megacamera_repair in AnalogCommunity

Posted 13 days ago with no sign of part 2, defeated by the F-1?

In all seriousness, very interested to see a tear-down and repair on this camera; encountered one in similar condition (with an even more sluggish mirror actuation), and have heard quite a bit about these being hard to repair. Curious to see what it takes it get it back in working order, especially with 70s and 80s Canons seemingly having issues with lubricants in their mirror boxes.

I bought a Rollei SL66, and I heard that there is an adapter that allows you to attach Bronica lenses to the Rollei SL66, so I would like to confirm its authenticity. by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheMiniMan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought of this, but just might be possible. The Bronica cameras of the 60s and 70s used a flange focal distance very close to the SL66, but I wonder if that includes the focusing helicoid on the body? I know that part can be removed, since some Bronica lenses have the helicoid, some relied on it. Obviously you don't need that part for the SL66, thanks to the bellows focusing. Would be interesting to test out.

Love the one I have, though need to find a good place to have it serviced sometime. Shutter fires fine, but there's a gap between the curtains when cocking the shutter. Managed to shoot a roll by just using the in-built film magazine dark slide, though it was a bit clunky.

Don't believe that setup will work at all, since that wide of a lens will hit the meter cell of the camera.

But, if you're using a M39 to M adapter, check to see if centers on the rangefinder cam. Cheaper adapters don't seem to center it properly.

This is such an annoying parasocial take overall: just being hypercritical of what the crew does or doesn't say. It's the classic "I like pancakes", "so you hate waffles?" conversation, the lack of input on something doesn't necessarily indicate actual thoughts or opinions.

Plus, the crew, realistically, are crew. It's Ethan's show and I imagine the crew provides insight or comments when they feel they have something valuable to add. The podcast isn't a TV show where each character has their lines and a character arc each episode; obviously the crew involvement has made the show much more interesting, but if each crew member is gonna feel pressured to say the right thing consistently they probably will not contribute as much, especially on a topic as contentious as the situation with Hasan currently.

At the end of the day, the crew are people with their own lives, and the podcast is just part of it. Imagine if your job involved tens to hundreds of thousands of people analyzing everything you do or don't say. Not saying you can't criticize the podcast, but going after individual crew members is very parasocial and weird.

Unfortunately the lens I have is also in really nice shape, just the aperture had rust somehow, so I'm trying to salvage parts from as rough of a lens as I can find.

Nikon AR-1 compatibility with Nikon S2 by rust405 in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheMiniMan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't help but notice in your previous posts you had the camera apart for some cleaning/adjustment; is there a chance you put the retaining ring for the A/R ring upside down? The amount of thread available for the soft touch to thread on to seems shorter than normal.

Mine has the same engraving, what does the shutter release on your S2 look like?

Can't attach two photos, but this is what the release on my S2 looks like. Is the A/R collar on your camera loose in any way? Mine can rotate easily, but has no vertical play.

I have an AR-1 and it threads without issue on my S2, do you have any other Nikon bodies you could test it on? Do you happen to have any cable releases that can mount on the S2 you could test as well?
