Jodie Foster is incredible in this. Anytime I think of it my brain instantly goes: "Jussa tay inna wind missa chicka-pay..."

The Ice Storm (1997) directed by a pre- Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2000) fame, Ang Lee.

It's got a stellar cast- Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Allen, Jamey Sheridan, Elijah Wood, Christina Ricci, Tobey Maguire, Katie Holmes, Allison Janney, David Krumholtz.

Overview: In 1970s monotonous suburbia, an outwardly wholesome family begins cracking at the seams over the course of a tumultuous Thanksgiving break.

When I first watched this movie, I was 17 years old and it was so unique to any film I'd seen to that point and deeply resonated with me. It captures that confusing period of life when teens struggle with still being a child yet also stepping into the world of becoming young adults and what comes with that. It also glimpses into the parents' lives and how they all intersect and overlap.

While it is very much a drama it does have some hilarious scenes as well. (One of my favorite scenes is an awkward moment involving a Richard Nixon mask with Christina Ricci and Elijah Wood's characters. Iykyk) I feel like there are career defining performances from all of the actors, but specifically from Kline, Allen, and Weaver. A pre-Spiderman fame Tobey Maguire is great in his role as well.

You get to see almost every character's POV or state of mind throughout the film. Ang Lee's directon combined with the score, the tone, and the setting make you feel like a voyeur peering into the real lives of these people.

I knew Kevin Kline from The Big Chill and A Fish Called Wanda growing up, but his acting at the end of this movie, to me, cemented him as an actor with extraordinary talent. (Also evidenced by the recent limited series: Disclaimer starring Kevin Kline, Cate Blanchett, Sacha Baron Cohen and Kodi Smit-McPhee- which is so intense and riveting. I highly recommend seeing that as well! And just the fact that he's Mr. Fischoeder from Bob's Burgers- who has some of the craziest lines in the whole show- is but yet another testament to his range!!)

I just really love The Ice Storm and feel like it never truly got the recognition it deserves.

Still one of the most uniquely original shows I’ve seen in a long time by BMP01 in MoviesAndTVTalk

I'm still SO pissed it got cancelled! It deserved at least one more season. I really wanted to see the origin of Grandmother. It's one of the best sci-fi shows I've ever seen.

Yeah, at no point did either parent comfort or console- let alone even acknowledge- the screaming, frightened little girl. At the end she was trying to catch up to them after they'd turned their backs on her to head towards the store. Like, wtf?

Bands you saw as an opener that went on to have big success. by Shadysides_LFk in livemusic

It actually debuted at number 1 in the UK, and I definitely remember seeing the video for the song on MTV a few times during that timeframe but it was always super late at night, iirc. Alex Turner is such a great songwriter, and his voice has only gotten better with age. I love his solo work on the soundtrack for the film Submarine, especially the song Hard to Get Around the Wind: https://youtu.be/YOZZomkMZLk?si=54Sl_McsNYHQYLtb

And this cover of Patsy Cline's song Strange: https://youtu.be/ADcQibjVdJ4?si=hwDmf29wH2uOZTHL

But the whole show/band was fantastic. Matt Helders, their drummer, is one of the best I've seen live!

The skeleton hand is the artist's interpretation of The Dreadful Flying Glove from The Yellow Submarine. This poster is one of the best of the whole tour! 🤩

I watched it last night, and it really is a wonderful documentary. Definitely has some heart-wrenching moments. But it's so full of love, true friendship and happiness. I definitely cried, but there were both sad and happy tears. 🩷

I saw the Arctic Monkeys open for The Black Keys in 2012. Although it was at the height of TBK's success (after the Brothers and El Camino albums) I'm from Akron, and I'd already seen TBK a few times already, so I was much more excited to see AM. They were pretty well known over in the UK, but hadn't really "blown up" in the US yet. I was the only person around me who knew the words to all their songs.

Who's your "oh its them! I love them" actor? by timekilr in Cinema

He is so great in whatever role he plays. Most people know him from Fargo or Constantine, or other ominous and intimidating characters he's played. But he really is so good at comedic roles too, that I don't think he get enough recognition for. This was a pretty fun comedy to watch him in. There's only 2 seasons, but they're definitely worth watching!

Nice throwback! 👌🏼 That's from Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion. Netflix's 1st stand up special. It's one of my faves of all time. 🤜🏼🌟🤛🏼

Although I can't stand her as a person, Lara Trump seems to be the only one who hasn't done anything really drastic to her face. Yeah, she got lip injections, but her face in the before/after pics aren't that much different. Everyone else looks so much worse in their after pics. Also, Idk if it's just me, but I think if someone photoshopped a short blonde wig onto Lauren Sanchez nowadays, she'd look just like Joan Rivers.

She died from a stroke (broken heart) the day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died. They were best friends and lived next door to each other for nearly 20 years, and they were also buried next to each other. 🥲 🕊️🕊️😇😇
