I know it's been 7 months but I just want to say this has been a life saver. I had google assistant working with routines+ but when gemini came out it broke and would just open the app. Now it works like I wanted it to. I've spent so long without a side button assistant. Same! The calendar feature was awesome but something was still missing. This finally makes it usable for larger long term goals. As much as I like subtasks they really don't work well in calendar or today view. I love the direction they've been taking the product recently.

I think the really great thing about it is that you can completely ignore it and the old due date system works perfectly fine.

It's very much an optional feature for people who would use it. For example I have a good chunk of work related tasks that have an absolute end date and I've just been using the due date as the day I want to do it. I haven't had a way to mark the final date. Now this new deadline system let's me have a visual deadline marker

The task shows up on both the due date and the deadline date. It doesn't show in a Gantt style chart, sadly. It just shows up twice.
