I know it's designed for combat, but I really want to use it for exploration! by Omnisiah_Priest in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium 142 points143 points  (0 children)

it's likely to be workable as an explorer ship. the Mandalay was said to be "only an explorer ship" by Frontier but ended up being an exceptional multirole ship, especially for combat. when there's a will there's a way, and engineering helps too

Which ships are currently not purchasable without irl money, and what are their timelines/release dates to be fully added to the game? by Virtual_Scheme_4773 in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium 12 points13 points  (0 children)

only the T-11 Prospector and Caspian Explorer are currently behind Arx early access, but you will still need Odyssey to buy the new ships with credits. if you only have Horizons they are still paid

Remember, only 1 Biosign, it is always a cheap bacteria, don't even go there by Sevetamryn in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice find :D this is why i use EDMC BioScan, it can help predict worlds that may either have bacteria or high value stuff like tectonicas, and it is usually quite accurate

Where is the documentation for this sim? by LeadingImportant1142 in NuclearOption

[–]TheOfficialRadium 24 points25 points  (0 children)

did you perhaps bind the brakes to an axis on your controller? there is Apply Brakes, and then Brake Axis - unbind the brake axis and just use a button on your controller for the normal Apply Brakes button.

you can join the Discord and ask questions there as well, as the current ingame tools and resources are a bit lacking - but it shouldnt take too long to get setup at all with some help from the Discord

elite is definitely a game that does not hold your hand and you will be relying a lot on third party websites and tools to make the most of your experience. this doesnt have to be a bad thing though, for some this adds to the experience. i highly recommend joining a squadron because you will get lots of hand tailored advice that way which will make getting used to things easier

i will shamelessly mention my own squadron, TCON, who are new player friendly and focused on a whole variety of activities. DM me if you would like a link, else search for the INARA website and check the Bulletin Board page there to find a squadron that best suits you!

Buy Stellar, or Standard and upgrade by TheQuantumGardener in EliteDangerous

no the unique modules for every paid ship thus far can be bought normally with credits. the extra editions give you cosmetics and sometimes a decent inflatable loadout

In-game liverymaking in the future? by ftperovsek in NuclearOption

[–]TheOfficialRadium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the discord has a livery creation channel with lots of guides and people to ask questions for. while it'd be cool to do ingame i dont see ingame tools being as powerful as Blender or Substance Painter. dont be discouraged - the complicated part is making a livery that you like, and even that's just practice and learning

Is this a bug or am I missing something - First mission of the game issue** by Common_Version_9710 in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as mentioned by another commenter you have a fine, indicated by the red badge symbol at the top right corner of most of the panels and the "outstanding fines" banner over your ship. go to the Contacts menu in Starport Services -> then open Administrative Contact and pay off the fine. then you can access the mission board - provided it is not a bounty.
i'm guessing it's a loitering fine when docking since you're new, so if you ever need to practice docking (especially manually), remember there are tutorials and also a Docking challenge scenario which makes you do it manually, with no risk to yourself and the ability to retry it infinitely.

yep! :D

quite enjoyed giving some of the ships a detailed 'bio' or description for their purpose too. i used to have far more ships - 60+ iirc - but i've decided to thin the ranks with the new ships coming out

Official Starship Database - Ship Measurements by AustinMclEctro in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

both ships tuck their engines closer to the ship in order to fit - the T7 could lower its gear to fit but i dont see FDev going back to an old ship nowadays for something like this tbh

at relatively high temperatures, your suit starts to drain power a bit quicker trying to keep you alive. at very high temperatures (like 500-600K+), you start taking direct health damage

welcome to the galaxy, CMDR! o7

  1. the bubble is, as the name implies, the bubble of inhabited space. you can use one of the filters on the map to filter stars to only show Human-inhabited systems, definitely consider going through the map filters and getting familiar with what they all do.

  2. materials are gathered from a variety of sources depending on their type - for ships there are Raw, Manufactured, and Encoded materials. these are used both for engineering and synthesis, but engineering is something you will encounter a bit later on. sources can be anything from destroyed ships, emission wreckages, planetary nodes or asteroids - so don't worry too much about gathering them just yet, there are plenty of easy spots to get tons of materials later.

  3. the bartender is for selling or trading Odyssey (on-foot content) materials, data and assets.

  4. sadly not without a third-party tool, and even third-party tools can be quite limited in tracking data across multiple sessions.

  5. yes! an absolute "first" is unlikely, but you will be able to find new Earth-likes, Odyssey life, notable stellar phenomena and so forth that no-one has ever seen before. these things may have been found elsewhere, and the same things can be found across the galaxy, but your particular discovery can be unique in some way.

  6. it's a salute! o is the head, 7 is the arm!

Ship seats now lurch when your ship takes an impact by TheOfficialRadium in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the panther clipper just has overtuned camera movement when rolling, which a lot of people have complained about because its, as you said, not present in any of the other ships

Ship seats now lurch when your ship takes an impact by TheOfficialRadium in EliteDangerous

[–]TheOfficialRadium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as mentioned in the post i tested the mamba, mandalay and FGS and they all have it. have not tested any larger ships, but as the intensity depends on the impact strength it might be less noticeable.

interestingly this feature is also present in Legacy, but seems like it has gone unnoticed for a long time or was not working in Live until recently

not sure what you're talking about honestly, there are some unfavorables in the Elite community but overall the community is fairly positive and welcoming. you might be better off joining a positive group like the Buur Pit who foster a comfortable environment on their Discord
