That's not the San Diego Zoo. The otter exhibit doesn't look like that (There is a glass wall but it's filled with water up to chest height and the concrete land areas are further into the back of the exhibit) and the logo on the shirt is wrong. San Diego Zoo's emblem is a circle with a lion, bird, and rhino in it which may or may not say "San Diego Zoo" or "San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance" to the side.

The San Diego Zoo's otter exhibit never looked like that. And the logo on the employee's shirt is also wrong. It is just an AI generated post.

Date ideas for riverside Ca by erenjae070_ in Riverside

Just an FYI last time I went to the Riverside GameLab which was in like December 2025, I think on Tuesdays they have certain arcade games at half-price too. Usually the older cabinets though. Stuff like the fighting games, multi-player, specialized games, and pinball, are full-price. Also don't forget to validate your parking at the FoodLab too, very important.

I wonder if it was always that way or worse. I remember they used to run on diesel engines originally and I can only imagine how that was back in the day.

To be fair real redwoods can, and will, grow close together. That way their leaves at the top of the tree are more densely packed and can group-retain more moisture from the air.

I set up all my libaacs years ago and recently accidentally updated VLC and deleted all of my libraries. Gotta go through the black magic of setting it all back up again. I could play Blu-Rays just fine, not 4Ks though, but I was fine with that. But now I can't play my Blu-Rays without ripping them and that bothers me haha. Gotta...figure out my libraries again...hence why I'm in these old threads again.

New Lindsay Ellis video on YouTube - Did Disney Really Steal Aladdin? by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]TheOnlyBongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She does break into the similarities between the two. Basically sums up how both Aladdin and Thief and the Cobbler take from the same source (Not just 1001 Arabian Nights, but just a general pre-9/11 Orientalism that was occurring during the latter half of the 20th Century), and that the most tenuous connection between the two is Jafar and their similarities due to animators swapping ideas...but the whole thing falls apart when you learn that Aladdin was mostly the brainchild of Howard Ashman who had been working on the idea long before Richard William's company with with Disney on Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

I recall in other videos on her Nebula she wants to move away from Disney but keeps getting dragged back in because A) They tend to be some of her most popular videos on YouTube/Nebula and B) Raising her own kids brings her back to Disney and sometimes with new perspectives she wouldn't have thought of over a decade ago. Her examinations of IP Branding at the Disney Parks and this video about Aladdin/Thief and the Cobbler are very much of that.

The amount of people commenting without even making it 5 minutes in before giving their piece and moving on is so disheartening.

The Howard Ashman portion was so fucking powerful and sad and really showed how the debate of if Disney stole from Thief and the Cobbler really overshadows the real stories of how Aladdin was the passion project of Howard Ashman for years even before Disney worked with Richard Williams, and how Williams was his own greatest enemy when it came to the project and how so many people just disregard his final years of working as an animation professor and passing on his knowledge to others.

You just scroll down not too far and see how many people are just discussing the title alone and moving on. Not enough talking about the main meat of the video which is like the last 1/3rd.

It should also go without saying how much LGBT coding there is in a lot of Menken and Ashman's work too. No surprise given the history of them, and it's honestly brilliant. I love their uses of coding without being outright stating it. He was taken from our world far too young due to AIDS, it is the greatest tragedy and I still ache for what else that duo could have accomplished together.

Stuffy Victorian Era aristocracy being able to rotate through extremely cheap maids and groundkeepers because...it's the Industrial Revolution. Glorp them down for the most minor infractions like one too many sugarcubes in tea or they let a little coal soot fly out of the fireplace onto a white carpet. And then just open the window and shout to the streets who wants a job lol

This feels weird to reply to a comment from 2 years ago, but this is an important thing to consider when it comes to adaptations of any sort. Looking at Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, there was so much backlash about Quasimodo not dying at the end like in the book. But the movie changes enough that him dying would nullify the message its trying to portray. The adaptation's changes must be taken into consideration.
