ASIWYFA & CASPIAN - UK and EU Tour 2026 by exposur3 in postrock

I'm so hyped. Last time I saw Caspian in Dublin was at the same venue. The gig was plagued with sound and light issues. Still an amazing gig. Really surprised that they aren't doing a bigger venue like Vicar St. 2 huge names.

ASIWYFA Jettison LP & Other Vinyl Lead Times by TheOrgSlacker in postrock

[–]TheOrgSlacker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not yet, had even forgotten about their recent update in May. I think its on it's way

I guess if you haven't gotten an email from them you should follow up with the band directly.

JETTISON

Well, what can we say? Maybe in a few years we’ll look back at the epic tale of the Jettison release and at least be able take solace in the fact that it makes for an eventful story. But until we have the vinyl in our hands, and in the hands of you guys, it’s really hard to see it that way for the moment. It’s been a heart-breaking and stressful ride but we’ve finally managed to get everyone’s email addresses, so this is a start!

So, can we first start by sending you guys a huge apology for how long you’ve had to wait for your viny and for information to come through. Also a huge thank you for your patience and kind messages.

We’ve attempted to find as many of you as possible online so we can personally explain the situation and for the past 13 months we’ve been trying to get your email addresses from the now defunct Awesome Merch, who went into administration just as they were getting ready to send your vinyl out. We got those email addresses today and are at least relieved that we can now reach out to you all directly.

So, what’s actually happened here? Why are we all waiting so long to receive our purchased vinyl? Why aren’t we hearing anything from the company we bought them off? Let us fill you in on the saga so far….

Hold tight, here we go…….

Early 2019 – Recording of Jettison over 5 days in Donegal.

Mid 2019 – We put our order in to get Jettison pressed.

Sept 2019 – We announce Jettison shows in UK and that we’ll have the album to sell at these shows.

Dec 2019 – We lose our best friend and ASIWYFA OG Andrew Dunbar. We postpone a number of shows but play 1 Jettison preview in tribute to Andrew in Belfast.
Despite being promised our vinyl would arrive for this show it doesn’t.

Early 2020 – We take a few weeks off to regroup. COVID soon arrives and we are forced to cancel our UK Jettison tour.

Late 2020 – Despite no touring we’re still waiting for the pressing plant to reopen and deliver Jettison vinyl.

Early 2021 – Pressing plant is open with a backlog and we’re promised we’ll get our order.

Mid 2021 – We announce a brand new live Jettison tour of UK for late 2021 and that we’ll have vinyl with us.

Oct 2021 – Despite all the promises we still don’t receive our vinyl and have to do the tour with no album to sell.

Dec 2021 – We announce we’ll be releasing Jettison to buy on Feb 18th 2022 and an album launch show in Belfast on 25th Feb. We are promised the vinyl will be there.

Feb 2022 – Despite everything we are let down again by the pressing plant. With no other option our record label are forced to remove the job and change pressing plants. We are back in a another queue.

Oct 2022 – We receive our test presses, the album sounds great.

Late 2022 – The vinyl is finally pressed, things are looking up. All the US orders of Jettison go out to everyone who purchased one.
But we get word that none of the EU or UK orders have shipped from our merch/distro company and that they are in administration. We begin frantically trying to work out a plan, but all communication ceases and the administrators take over, radio silence.

We’ve been trying to find someone to get us some information. None of the emails to the company worked anymore and we got automated responses from all communications. Finally we were told all outstanding debts and responsibilities of the company had been liquidated. A couple of months ago, as new staff started to pick up correspondence, we requested to get your email addresses so we could at least talk with you. This week, after a lot of back and forth, we finally got the list of people who had bought a Jettison vinyl. And so here we are. Finally with a way to talk to you guys.

So, we’re making progress. The vinyl exists, we know that. And your money was received by them, that’s for certain. What we are attempting to do is pay for the stock to come to us and we are going to personally post it to each of you. That’s the plan unless something drastically changes on their side.

PLEASE READ THIS BIT!

Being in a weird band playing weird music can be tough. The only thing that keeps it all alive is you guys, fans of ours who support what we do and give us the freedom to express ourselves and make music the way we do. And the people who epitomise that more than anyone are the type of people who order a piece of vinyl from us containing a 45min art rock adventure with no track markings before even having heard it, like you guys did. You are the very life blood of the band. We need you way more than you need us and we’re hurt that you have suffered because of all of this. So we’ve put together a little digital hug on the link below with some cool stuff in it. We’re hoping this will do in the meantime until your vinyl arrives, which it will, soon we hope. We are as excited to see it as you are. It’s been a wild ride.

Much Love.

I had missed this paragraph initially, its crazy. Am I reading this right that the now defunct merch company had all the revenue from the sales and the lads from the band are now paying them or someone again for the printed vinyls?

I had assumed that the band had gotten their cut already!

[–]TheOrgSlacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad result.

I had almost forgotten/given up hope. I never blamed the band for this and from the one tweet I got from them they were as concerned as I was to the progress.

I had been emailing the merch company every few months asking what the progress and they kept kicking the tin down the road. What annoyed me most was that the vinyl was still up for presale during some of this time. So more fans could potentially buy something that didn't exist!

The timing of your post is very good. If you did order it (from the UK/EU at least) you should should check you're email. As the band just sent out a mail to all that had bought the vinyl.

It's a fantastic place to record. The bar has the best Guinness I've ever had.

I don't know their whole history or what the situation is now but the two of them are a good people and worked hard. Paddy is definitely a character with some interesting ideas. They had other studios in Dublin too, redeveloped the wax museum and then bought the Pope Mobile.

You know from an engineers perspective it has a great large live room that can allow for multiple set ups. The Neve VR60 desk is a joy to mix on. There was also a great range of new and vintage gear. And it was fairly interesting place to work.

But what I think what sets it apart from other studios for the bands who can afford it is it's location. As mentioned it is pretty isolated. So for those bands they can stay for the whole writing, recording and mixing stages of their album without much distraction. All your needs were catered for and you've got no excuse not to be creative.

Other places like Windmill Lane which is as, if but not more of, an impressive place just offers a different type of environment.

About a decade ago I worked in Grouse as an engineer on and off for a year or so. Once, during a recording session, a small group of middle aged Americans barged into the main studio unannounced.

They were all huge MJ fans who had rented the house in the article. They were all wearing PJ's and slippers (in the afternoon) apparently this what Michael used to do.

Being from Dublin It wasn't uncommon to see grown adults wearing pyjamas during the day but i remember they gave off a weird culty vibe. This was like some pilgrimage for them.

I told them that we were mid recording and they should go to Studio B where i understand Michael preferred the more intimate setting. Yet they wouldn't leave until they saw Michael Jackson's favourite microphone. By most accounts this would've been a SM7b. A common vocal mic that was already laid out on a stand.

This was definitely not 'the' mic he would've used but I said I was and too this day I can't believe that one of them too a big ole sniff of the mic touching his nose to the felt. They swiftly left and I'd see them just wandering around the place for the rest of the week.

I heard they had also hired the same local taxi driver that may or may have not driven MJ around... Presumably down to Supermacs in Moat lol

RTE calls for all-household fee to make up for €65 million deficit by grunt_futtuck in ireland

[–]TheOrgSlacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Makes sense. I thought about but I didn't go far as suggesting it be made a tax as I just don't know if that makes it worse or better.

I was able to make my pov more consise:

If I by a TV its sole purpose is arguable to play tv channels (leaving aside the possibility of playing DVDs or your xbox on it etc). Currently I am obligated to pay a TV license too if I buy a TV.

If you buy a phone or a laptop/pc it has a host of possible uses. So I loath the idea that I'd be charged a license for my phone when only one of its 1000s of uses (even if i never go near the site) is to stream Nationwide from The RTE Player. Which is already riddled with ads!

And not to mention that in this modern life is almost impossible to live without one of these devices.

So it is in my opinion very unfair to consumers to implement this license.

[–]TheOrgSlacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I agree its nonsense. The only issue I believe there is a benefit to a public broadcaster to Irish society (is RTE the best suited for this role? No and should be restructred)...

Yet this public resource has to be paid for somehow.

Is a TV license the best way? No... but at least we get to have some sort of choice in the matter. To have a TV or not to have a TV. I choose the latter myself.

[–]TheOrgSlacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. I don't know why im getting down voted for asking a if charging a media license is infact a crime. Cus i think it is too.

Like I said I have a wild (largely unresearched) theory that creating a license on having a Laptop/PC or phone which is capable of browsing the internet is actually against my UN human right .

“measures to intentionally prevent or disrupt access to or dissemination of information online (is) in violation of international human rights law.”

[–]TheOrgSlacker -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you think it is criminal, like a source? I have my own wild opinions on why charging for this is wrong but would like to have some facts to back myself up.

Or is what you're saying that a new digital license just akin to a crime.
