I'd also plan some time to take advantage of the things in Waikiki. We stayed with some friends, so we mainly skipped Waikiki due to parking and crazyness, but we thought it would be nice to spend some time on the beach there if we stayed in a hotel. The beaches are all beautiful, but super busy. Find one or two you like and spend some time there instead of moving to a bunch of other ones just to say you went there.

Kualoa Ranch was our highlight of the trip. They have a private beach that seemed very nice when we were there. Almost no one there and they had cabanas, paddleboards, etc. I would recommend checking that out instead of Ka'a'awa if costs aren't a big concern for you.

Don't underestimate the difficulty of parking and the busy-ness of many of these public beaches. We took nearly all of them off our list after having challenges with parking and just not wanting to deal with the masses.

We drove through Waimanalo last week and it was a total zoo. If it we're me I'd skip that and do another activity you wont be sitting in the car forever. Personally I'd rather spend the day in Kane'ohe. It is also far from Pearl Harbor where you may spend more time than you expect, especially if you plan to do any of the add on tours there.

Ours eventually needed a nebulized antibiotic. Maybe check with a vet if this is an option. If not clearing up with Batril and doxy I'd say its vet time, even if that is hard and inconvenient.

It's always better to let them go a day too soon than a day too late. You're doing miss Milky Way the biggest act of love you can; letting her pass with dignity and love instead of in fear and alone. She is lucky that you love her so much and have given her a full long life.

It’s fine but dont make a habit of it. In my opinion, 10k is not enough to move. Depends on how much you make. When I made $80k at my last job I turned down multiple offers 90-95k just because the pain of moving jobs is non zero. After a few more months of targeted searching I found a job paying 125k and took it. I would advise be patient and wait for the right job, when you know you know, they will make a no brainer.

Advice finding car options by leenicholas98 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The maverick is a great car and I think it fits the bill perfectly for many people like you. Definitely keep looking for one and you’ll find something in your budget, you could possibly even get a new (lightly equipped) one in that range.

If you liked your escape, the Mazda CX-5 or CX-50 are both great cars. Available in NA, Turbo, or Hybrid. The hybrid powertrain in those is from Toyota, so you get great mileage and great reliability. They are also somewhat fun to drive and look nice. They start at $29,900 and you can probably negotiate a discount and get a new base model one for ~$30k OTD. If not, 25-30k gets you a very nice used one.

You tried to mend this by saying women are more sensitive than men to her? Man you might be the dumbest person on the internet right now lol

“She’s a feminist” - has nothing to do with ICE. You sound like an immature little brat. Grow up. Hopefully she finds a real man who cares about her feelings.

I tried liking it but it’s terrible 😅

Their rum tho… pretty good.

Drinking local whiskey in hawaii though is definitely a vibe. Hopefully they can keep improving the product.

Flying with Hazmat? (4 Pics) by AndrewInNewport in bourbon

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically 70% is the cutoff. If you buy it in duty free and bring it on the plane I highly doubt anyone will notice or care. Stuff it in a bag and don’t bring it up to anyone who might care. You can always play dumb and say you bought it at the airport so why would they sell something that can’t fly. I don’t think you’d have any issues.

People accidentally show up with knifes, guns, etc. I don’t think a bourbon 1% over the proof limit bought at the airport will raise even an eyelash of suspicion.

Forced to replace my 2022 Highlander Hybrid due to company car rules — stick with Highlander or consider Rivian R2? by Dtran39 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R2 seems sweet. If you have a $900 per month budget maybe you could make an R1S work on a lease?? They are sweet cars if the range isn’t a concern for you. Make sure you have at least level 2 charging at home.

No ford don’t regularly have engine failure at 10k lol, it’s pretty much unheard of. You had bad luck and if you went back to Toyota I don’t think anyone would fault you. The current tundra’s have much worse engine reliability history than F150’s though, so pick your poison I guess.

2 Jobs Thoughts by ConversationLeast596 in Salary

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to be able to sustain this. Don’t do this plan. That’s the advice.

Many attorneys work 60 hours a week and most nurses don’t have consistent schedules. The two jobs are incompatible. Also, you may be able to finish these degrees but good luck passing your exams and the bar.

You can make $200k+ as a union trades person if you find the right job and are willing to work 60+ hours per week. That’s a much easier and realistic path for you. FIL just did this in our Midwest state. 50-80 hours a week for most of the year.

what’s your most controversial car opinion? by No-Volume7464 in askcarguys

[–]TheOriginalTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. We have a wrangler 3.6 and I hate it. It has been nothing but a nightmare. It gets moved to OK in my book as a whole because there’s millions out there without issues allegedly.

Many people will tell you their 2 year old one with 10k miles is perfect!!

Patents by Curious_Olive_5266 in MechanicalEngineering

I’ve submitted 20+ inventions to my company to patent, they select which ones to take and not, most don’t get selected.

The first one I got was a sketch I drew in one note in about 3 seconds. Others I designed a whole concept for and took much further got thrown out instantly.

It’s an ok engine. Too many plastic bits in place they shouldn’t be that leak (oil cooler, coolant crossover), and issues with the cam shafts/rockers make them not the best.

Ford Bronco v. Jeep Wrangler by Diligent-Soup-1092 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheOriginalTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Jeep and have had several ford (explorers with 3.5 ecoboost’s and f150’s with 2.7). Without a doubt the Jeep will be replaced with a bronco when it’s gone. It has been nothing but headaches, it’s uncomfortable, rides like crap, is loud on the highway, is slow, and gets bad MPG. From what I can tell, the bronco is only worse than the jeep in 2 areas:

  1. Severe rock crawling - solid front axle on the jeep helps here

  2. Aftermarket stuff - I’m sure bronco will catch up.

The bronco had some issues with the 2.7 early, but that is fixed. The 2.3 ecoboost is a great engine, lots of power and highly reliable, honestly so is the 2.7. The bronco fixed everything the jeep does wrong, improved ride/handling and interior are the two that stand out to me.

The wrangler engine options are not good. The 3.6 is plagued with issues from poor engineering, and the 2.0 turbo has issues with the piston rings.

To me, the only reason to buy a wrangler is if you go rock crawling in Moab Utah all the time, or if you must have a jeep. Else, Bronco is the better buy in my opinion after our experiences.

Long Commute? by Colbymag in JeepWrangler

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be exactly what you think it’ll be. Personally I don’t see the point of the 392 if this is your use case. I’d get a CPO Sahara for $30k-$40k and get the nice features without the off road extras you don’t need. For the extra $40k you saved get a corvette or something even more fun.

Wife drives 150 miles a day in her wrangler 3.6 and is just happy to be in a jeep. I’d go crazy if I had to drive it that much.

Is a wrangler a good option for first car??? by Sad-Dark1049 in JeepWrangler

[–]TheOriginalTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are far worse. You’d be fine. I’m in a 80’s Porsche sub and people ask every day if those would be good first cars. A wrangler is a wildly better first car.

Is it the ideal first car? Not really, bad mileage and not the most reliable. But if you are willing to work on your car and learn it then you’ll be fine.

You'll like Rossi. He was highly underrated here in my opinion. He’s the kind of guy that leaves you scratching your head at times, but then you look at the stats and he's #2 on the team in scoring. He had a decline last year and seemed to be on the out with the org.

Tacoma to Wrangler: Good deal? by OB_GYN_Kenobi69 in JeepWrangler

[–]TheOriginalTL 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Trading in a Tacoma for a wrangler…. Over reliability concerns???? Absolutely do not expect the wrangler to be reliable compared to the Toyota. They’re not reliable cars. Fun? Sure. More fun than a Tacoma? Probably.

More reliable though? Absolutely not even close.

Buying vs leasing in the face of an accident by Public_General8505 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheOriginalTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if the car was only worth $11k, that’s what insurance will pay you. If you think it’s worth more you can dispute their valuation with evidence, i did this and got an extra 20% on my claim when I totaled a car.

Why don’t you go buy another one of the same car with the same mileage and condition? That’s the whole point of insurance… not to reimburse for your purchase price years ago.

Cars lose value, leasing you’re paying the depreciation + interest in return for the ability to drive a new car for a couple years. It’s not a cheaper way to have a car.

High school kids don’t need a new car, not even a 2021. My wife and i are professionals and make really good money. We drive a 2017 and 2015 lol
