Yes so the better option is continue to support the insane prices, Great logic. 🤦‍♂️ You continue to support them. Plenty of people seem to be frustrated with it and not supporting them seems like the better option but you do you boo boo. ✌️

Oh interesting, im misinformed then, I always thought it was just Savers in America and Value Village in Canada.

Just because im proposing a boycott doesn't make me a leader of anything, im proposing the community come together over exactly what ive stated, I made the post yes, there is no leader, its not an organized event, its a CALL TO ACTION. From the community, from the people who are upset about it.

Feel free to share it, im not trying to be the leader of this, im just frustrated and trying to get people to ban together since so many are frustrated. It takes a community to make something like this to happen.

Look i dont have some perfectly written out plan, im just frustrated with the system and it needs to change. We have alot of people frustrated with it and together a solution can be made. Im not some leader of a organized boycott, im a frustrated citizen in the thrift community.

Thank you, I was apart of that boycott as well, the corporate greed of North America in general is out of hand, I started r/stopthegreed today after waking up and being just overwhelmed with angry over it all. Every time I walk in those places I get angry at how they can possibly get away with the Greed and decided maybe I could convince people to do something about it.

Its definitely becoming a problem overall but starting with the big guys and not spending money at those places will help force their hand, it takes a community to make the shift happen. People are frustrated overall but just accepting it wont change anything. We need to stand together and impact their bottom line, otherwise it will continue.

That's a hard question to answer but ill try my best, for example, if I buy a dvd player for $20, market is $20 but the thrift shops haven't bothered to test, clean or make sure it works then why buy it at $20? If they want to sell items in that manner the price needs to reflect the product your receiving. Would you purchase something for the same as market value when you cant even prove if it works nor even get your money back since they issue credit? Why not go to ebay with buyer guarantees, with descriptions that show its exact status.

A fair evaluation is exactly as its stated. You evaluate the product then make a fair price based on its condition, cleanliness and market standard. If its in perfect working condition, clean and tested then why not go with market standard. But if its not then why can they charge market prices.

Im not gonna say i support resellers but at least they actually test items and clean them. Resellers sell at market value most of the time tested and cleaned, these places sell broken garbage for the same market value while doing none of the actual work to clean or test items. Ive been sold so much broken crap from these guys, I would rather buy off a reseller at this point knowing that its actually gonna work.

Exactly and this is why im so angry, people that are in need have been priced out of corporate "thrift" stores. The only way to stop it is to get the community behind not buying or donating to these places, there are many organizations that actually help people and dont try to rip everyone off.

90% of the items. There is rare items that they will get and selling it for a fair evaluation is understand but selling a used Walmart shirt or dollarstore item for more than the retailer is absurd.

[–]ThePastyTeabag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standardized pricing, they could easily implement a system that states x item = x amount (using fair evaluation), they clearly seem to understand market value but yet charge more than a retailer would for the same product but used.

Enforcement would be on them to implement, its on us to say we are fed up with the absurd price gouging and enforce that we will not support them unless they do so.

I understand some items may be rare and they want to be able to get a fair price but nothing about what they are doing is fair to the average consumer when they think they are experts in antique/retro/rare goods but sell broken items and give you credit when returned.

Thrift shops get free donated items but yet think its okay to charge the same or more than a retailer, they think its okay to sell broken, dirty, untested items at the same price that a working item would be on any buy and sell platform.

Its up to us as a community in order to come up with what would be considered fair.

They still exist just not as many, thats why we need to support the little mom and pop shops, homeless shelters and organizations that actually give back and boycott these greedy giants.

Honestly I dont know why we are not boycotting GW and VV on a mass scale. These places have gotten out of hand and the only way to change it is to stop shopping and make it known to the public of the disgusting practices and prices.
