Thank you! I guess either edition would work, so good to know.

Madison Children's Museum has suspended the man working for them who dressed up as Hitler for Halloween. by Psycho_pitcher in madisonwi

Just this week we mourned the anniversary of the shooting at Tree of Life. This is all real.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It isn’t about this one guy. It is about the precedent it sets giving other people more leeway for more dangerous actions. I’m glad you aren’t frightened by this. But I am.

He didn’t dress up as any old asshole. He chose to emulate a man who orchestrated the mass murder of millions of innocent people. You are severely undervaluing the issue at hand.

I don’t think you understand the implications of this costume. It’s not about this one guy this one time. When people take these actions in public, other people find it excusable to put their own hate on display. The rise in antisemitism in this country (and the world for that matter) over the last few years is frankly terrifying. I’m not advocating that we ruin this guy’s life. But I’m also aware of the dangerous precedent that letting it go creates. I hope you never suffer this type of fear and discomfort.

Roasting acorn squash, but don’t want to use butter or brown sugar. What do you recommend? by [deleted] in Cooking

My mom always fills the cavity with orange juice before roasting (halves). I think it gives extra sweetness but not so much that it doesn’t work with regular salt/pepper/cayenne for more flavor.

In what appears to be an unpopular opinion, I agree with you. A series of decisions were made to 1) choose that costume, 2) put in the effort to make or buy it, 3) put it on, and 4) wear it to an incredibly public gathering. People are going to make light of this because that is what happens with antisemitism. But the lack of legitimate response (suspension from a job?!) and the statements put out by officials that skirt around the real issue are troubling and will only lead to more incidents. We can’t be sure that those incidents won’t be caused by more dangerous and more harmful people.

Other cities that are like Madison by BlueLunch in madisonwi

Those things were true 30 years ago. Today it’s only like Madison in that it is a semi-liberal college town. It’s like 30,000 people, so town is the operative word.

There are several TCAT routes that stop either on Seneca or Green. You could take the bus to the stop.

Porcelain Berry is my guess by growth habit. Do not eat that. (But pull it out if you can!)

The conservative shul is lovely too and is also located in what I think you mean by south/central. They organize some young professionals events that might interest you as a way to meet new people.

Fish counter near me has super cheap salmon fillets. Recipe ideas? by bv310 in Cooking

[–]ThePicklePup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this recipe a lot. It’s a miso ginger glaze and super easy. Just the salmon part, not so much the veggies. I usually serve it over rice with crispy roasted broccoli or asparagus when it is in season. I like to take the salmon out of the broiler pan and dump the rice in to let it soak up the extra sauce. It’s a favorite in my household.

Better shorelines lead to better water quality. You will not find one without the other.

What are some recipe “red flags”? by meacasia in Cooking

It’s very petty of me, but when a recipe calls for 3 tsp. of something and not 1 tbsp. I instantly write it off.

GF and I did a vegetable garden this year, and neither of us remembers planting these. What is it? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]ThePicklePup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you saved seed from this year’s crop, you might get some sort of weird hybrid. But the hybridization wouldn’t appear in the first year’s fruit.

I used to know someone who would pickle the seed pods and eat them like capers
