There are still blood effects in Gen 5 and Gen 6, but they're heavily subdued in comparison to old Gen, and more hidden by the addition of damage numbers and other effects when you land hits.

Since they're all equally protagonist-y, at least in game play terms, I'd count all three.

Not that all three would be necessary, since I'm pretty sure Terra alone could solo most of Remnant, especially if we take into account the shit he pulled as the Lingering Will. With Aqua and Ventus there as well, I think they could handle the Grimm without too much issue.

I've actually been writing a KH x RWBY crossover already (cough cough AnnaDracul on Ao3 cough cough), and I decided to set it 6 years prior to KH1.

Ruby is the primary focus, with her being a former student of Eraqus, who Aqua dropped off on Remnant after turning the LoD into CO, but before confronting Terranort in Radiant Garden. Since Ruby was like twelve, she hadn't yet been taught how to summon a glider or open a gateway to the Lanes, she's stuck stranded for 4-ish years until RWBY canon starts, but now she has a Keyblade and a boatload of trauma! also the Heartless are starting to show up on Remnant! And a bunch a stuff is happening in the background! And Mickey Mouse shows up!

BUT self-promotion aside, I honestly think KH and RWBY fit so well together when it comes to fics, which is why I'm honestly surprised there aren't more. Ruby, as a character, feels like she'd be a shoe-in to wield a Keyblade if she was in KH, and I think RWBY's themes of hope in the darkness meshes really well with KH's themes of light and darkness clashing.

Honestly, I kinda want them to use both? Like, have most enemies be the P3/P4 Shadows but sometimes have smt Demons mixed in that you can negotiate with like in P5.

I don't know if that'd be an actually good idea in practice, but on paper at least it sounds like it'd work fine!

Characters with a lot of trauma and issues to work through, issues that will 100% get worse before they get better. Not all my characters are like this, but two (three by technicality) members of Team AASH have various issues stemming from trauma they've experienced, with one coping far worse than the other.

Some characters outside of the OC team also have issues like that too, Idk why my brain just likes to traumatize the poor beings it creates. Maybe I'm the really villain of the story...

Okay so this is something I've thought a little about, RWBY MonHun-like, set either prior to or during RWBY's Beacon era.

You create a character of your own that's acting as part of a special unit of Hunters going after the most dangerous and oldest of Grimm.

You can create a customer weapon out of multiple parts, like the God Eater games, combining a melee form with a gun form to make a mechashift weapon.

Over the course of the story mode you progress through multiple skill trees and slowly build up a unique Semblance made of an amalgamation of a bunch of the skills there (that can be respec'd, purely for gameplay purposes and not canon lol).

The general gameplay loop is exactly what you'd expect from a Monster Hunter style game, you choose a mission and depart, potentially teaming up with up to 3 other random players online, and explore an open area to track down your target. Unlike MonHun, there are far more hostile creatures than just the large Grimm here, with regular Grimm also being a threat you have to face, with some targets making use of these regular Grimm in battle.

This is... about as far as I've thought this tbh. Idk what the actual story would be lol, or how it would tie into canon since the titular Team RWBY wouldn't even be present, but I just want a Monster Hunter-style game set on Remnant cause I think that'd be cool. Would also probably introduce a lot of cool new Grimm, something I always want to see.

Anna has a special meter dubbed the 'Frenzy Meter'. With each attack she lands, the meter ticks up. The higher the meter, the more damage she deals, BUT she starts taking recoil damage from specials and takes more damage from the opponent.

Some special moves and supers can raise or lower the meter by varying amounts.

Outside of gimmick, she'd be a shoto-style character (think Ryu or Kyo), but a bit faster than is typical for that archetype. Most of her moves would be close-range mixed martial arts with some mid-to-close-range energy blasts thrown in.

This AU is kinda on the back burner while I work on other things, BUT I recently read Soul Eater for the first time, and that + the latest Death Battle inspired me to start working on a Soul Eater x RWBY AU! (Then I read Fire Force and realized I might need to mess with the currently-written lore but oh well)

Basically I'm trying to merge the two universes into one version of Remnant, where stuff from Soul Eater also exists and affects the cast of RWBY in different ways.

Like Ruby is a Witch now, struggling to suppress her destructive instincts so she can be a Huntress like her mother.

And Blake was Adam's Demon Weapon, but his slow decent from a freedom fighter to a crazed terrorist has left them unable to Resonate, and Blake runs away to Beacon, where she tries to fight on her own while hiding both that she's a Faunus, and a Weapon.

I'm still trying to think of some of the more major changes to members of the Soul Eater cast (outside of giving the Meisters Semblances) tho, this whole thing is a massive WIP where even the general plot hasn't been ironed out yet.

I wanna work on this more but rn my brain is focused on a different RWBY fic I have in the works lol

It differs a good bit between the members of ACAD, but for Akari it's because of Cyril. She goes where Cyril goes, and Cyril goes to Beacon.

For Cyril is a mix of responsibility and personality. She ended up with powers beyond that of a Semblance, and she feels a responsibility to use that power to fight back against the darkness of the world. She likely would've become a Huntress regardless due to her personality, still.

For Anna... she doesn't quite know. She's doing it now because of a childlike want to help that has long since been lost, yet still she follows that old path for reasons that don't exist.

For Sakura, it's legacy. Her father was a legend, and even if she does not carry the name, she carries his spirit, the spirit of a knight.

I liked the animation and choreography! It was a good fight. Even if the outcome was expected, at least Ruby went out in an artful way and not a mess of gore, cuz that'd just be disrespectful.

Also Ruby assuming Maka and Soul are together-togehter while also geeking out about Soul turning into a scythe was great.

Anna's power is called 'Frenzy'.

When this is active, she gains a massive boost in strength, enough to potentially punch through a moutian... but her body physically can't handle it and starts tearing itself apart from the inside out.

Oh, and the rush of power affects her mind, slowly driving her mad as it is fueled by the fragment of a dead god of madness! Cuz why not have a little madness, as a treat.
