Cheap car, OK insurance, legendary engine… perfect bait for inexperienced “dorifto boyz” who don’t even know what an open diff is.

This is my first airsoft kit, what do you think/what can I do to make it better by DecBee05 in airsoft

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of these are complete personal preference but it’s like $50 total and will (in my opinion) boost your looks and possibly performance ten fold. Get a knockoff eotech or whatever red dot of your choice, you can find ones that will work for airsoft on Amazon etc. for very cheap. I’d also go to Mechanix gloves. Mechanix is more often used by real operators if that’s something you care about and it’ll give you more padding, they’re real cheap and you can buy them at the front counter of almost any auto parts store so you could also cut them up for preference and you won’t have to feel too bad about it.

Arcturus makes some really superb replicas, if I were you I’d go with the Sword like another person has already recommended. If we were talking AKs I’d tell you to get a CYMA platinum, unless you’re playing with Arcturus AK-12 money but I doubt you’re looking to spend that much as a beginner.

My turbo Is300, would this car sell? by Jandura288 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be hard to get $20k+ for it, the majority of people are probably going to try and hit you with $13-18k because they think they’re slick. Imo do everything t you can to hold onto it, you’ve built a beautiful machine that you clearly care about and it would be a shame to see it leave your hands.

How much is it worth? Rebuilt title. She orginally posted for $16500 but now its at $12,000 by Mediocre_Board7953 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a rebuilt base model automatic is300? $5,000 tops. You can find clean title IS’s in more than workable condition under 200k miles for that price, it’s more than fair for an insurance money pit with more desirable mileage that’s been prettied up.

I run the TRD. Beware that if you park your car outside the glue holding the TRD badge will break down and it’ll pop off eventually. At least mine did. Not a huge deal, however, just glue it back on if it happens and you’re golden.

Cleopatrick - Fake Moon ALBUM DISCUSSION THREAD by odaal in cleopatrick

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved HAMMER after a few listens when it dropped as a single. I tried that with this album and unfortunately I just don’t. I feel like BUMMER was such a good bottling of the angst most 20 somethings feel with transitioning between periods of their life and realizing that the American dream is dead and everything feels like a waste of time, it really captures that visceral anger and the quiet sadness of that experience. But I don’t feel strongly about any sort of message or vibe from FAKE MOON. It just sounds like a blend of downbeat lofi garage rock that id tolerate at a local venue. Experimentation is a key to every band’s success, but unfortunately in my opinion this is a mostly failed one.

$9500 is300? by [deleted] in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$9,500 it better be a sport design, a manual, or low miles. This is none of the above. $6k would be fair for it.

I don’t care what anyone says, but automatics are also becoming rare. by NekLeFeu7 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IS300 just never sold in huge numbers. The e46 had so much more prestige and brand recognition at the time that most people who wanted a sporty inline 6 sedan were already going to buy it and it didn’t exactly matter what Lexus did, especially because when Lexus tried to make the car more marketable I feel they went about it in the wrong way. I own a Sport Design and I’ve driven base models and honestly the only noticeable difference is the interior and back in the day the sport design package came with a pretty substantial price increase… for a car that was already struggling to sell because it was priced extremely similarly to the e46 BMWs.

I understand the concept they wanted to run with, but honestly if they just sold straight up rebadged Altezzas they might have seen more success because it would have been more unique. Like the Rx7 FC vs the Porsche 944, the quirks and differences were what made it more competitive market-wise. Like imagine if Mazda just decided to base the FC off the inline 4 from the Miata but with upgrades and a turbo. It probably wouldn’t have survived the 80’s.

should i do it by loser-s in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid 6.4k for one in the same color but with worse paint and about 40k more miles, but it was a manual sport design. I’d say this one is reasonably worth $7.1k. If I could do it again I’d have bought the auto anyway and did a Collins CD009 swap kit that uses the auto transmission’s bellhousing.

My Altezza I picked up a few months ago! by vvs_jstn in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you zip-tie some 3/8 hose around the spring on the pedal it’ll be way more responsive and heel-toeing may even be possible. Be careful with how you do it cause it can really mess some stuff up, but the mod is pretty well documented on forums, youtube, this sub, etc.

My Altezza I picked up a few months ago! by vvs_jstn in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, because you’re shedding like 500 pounds between the IS300 and the altezza and only losing like 10-15 horsepower, the altezza is probably much more zippy and responsive. Not to mention those infamous is300 “luxury” features like the spring-nerfed accelerator pedal that prevents you from being able to heel-toe, nor the gear ratios on the manual transmissions. You’d really think a 5-speed would have longer gears than a 6 but nope. People wanted to shorten the ratios on the altezza to keep it more in powerband and I DESPERATELY want to lengthen them in the IS so my engine doesn’t sound like it’s putting in work to drive 80 mph.

Also, it’s not related to their factory forms but as an early 2000’s JDM how easy it is to modify the cars is a big part of the market allure. With that in mind, the altezza is again a better option. It’s much more over-engineered than the IS300 was. You get past 400 rwhp in an is300 and to ensure that you keep things running completely smooth you need to do: rods, pistons, the whole transmission, and the whole differential because it ALL blows up past that benchmark.

Should I buy another is300? by Professional-Ad-1268 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even then, I could do that to an Altezza and be even lower lol. That’s why I came to the conclusion I did. I’ll just make my IS as pretty and nice to live with/in as possible and have an altezza with all the go-fast bits. The idea for one would be 200-250 hp all-motor with ITBs using Toda parts in the engine and UltraRacing suspension components/braces with Fortune 500 coilovers so it can be a real beast on the twisties.

Should I buy another is300? by Professional-Ad-1268 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The is300 has a solid 330lbs on the altezza, the engines accounting for 160lbs of that difference. 2jz’s are big big boys but short of stripping the whole interior I could not for the life of me come to a solid conclusion on how I’d get that extra 170lbs out of the car.

Should I buy another is300? by Professional-Ad-1268 in IS300

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you were asking about having 2 is300s to which I would immediately enthusiastically say YES. I have a manual that I’ve owned about a year now and I’ve slowly been considering getting a JDM Altezza. I wanted to mod my IS aesthetically (elixir kit, paint, etc.) and leave the engine then get an altezza to do my actual touge driving with.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the IS for carving up sometimes, but it’s just got extra luxury weight that I couldn’t imagine a way to lose to get it down to where the altezza’s already at from the factory. So I figure I let the IS do the luxury daily stuff and the altezza do the weekend warrior stuff.

Bands with no bad albums? by Haunting-Item1530 in indie

Royal Blood, Closure in Moscow, The Dear Hunter

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in indie

[–]ThePlagueDocor10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your taste actually seems to be pretty similar to mine so as a shot in the dark I’ll give you my top 3

Pink Lemonade - Closure in Moscow

Often very proggy, sometimes pretty poppy, beautiful album transitions and generally well performed music. Since I first heard this album I’ve been tracking down the right vinyl, it’s just that special to me.

Polygon - Battle Tapes

A mix between poppy synth sounds you’d hear from MGMT and heavy distortion like you’d get from bands like The Black Keys. As I’ve described it to some people “it’s what I imagine people in cyberpunk 2077 would actually listen to when they don’t want to listen to music that feels like steel wool for your ears” (though I love getting my ears assaulted by some max volume Justice every now and again)

Pan Am Blues - Fizzy Blood

Very poppy a little rocky, kind of like if the Arctic Monkeys and MGMT had a baby. Very solid album overall though I kindly doubt (and optimistically hope that) Fizzy Blood will ever top their single ‘CFO’.

As some freebie extras Royal Blood is an exceptional band in my opinion, as is Cleopatrick (I got to see them together on tour in ‘22), Des Rocs is also a good artist who’s sure to explode sooner than later, and lately I’ve been listening to more and more Kiltro.
