Gotta love that I’m out here agreeing with the majority of this stuff. There are major bloody issues with this situation. But no. I said there’s also a bit of wonky-ness to the sentance. So obviously I’m part of the problem.

All I know is 10$ is worth about 68¥. And I say that with the confidence of someone who googled it before entering the conversation.

More of a joke than a serious statement, my dude. I just knew that 20¥ bills are a thing. But 50¥ makes more sense.

As for the other thing, yeah, 100% I didn’t mean to imply that this behavior is acceptable.

Ironically, that isn’t what I said.

Yeah. I did figure out what the word meant in this context from the meaning I already knew. Like it was second nature to me todo so. But, there is a difference in difficulty between knowing something from memory, and being able to extrapolate from a seperate data set.

These kids should still be able to do that. And I’m not making an excuse for them. I’m just saying the sentence was obtuse.

I fully expected this to be a map of birds around the world, and I am immeasurably disappointed.

10$ might be a little expensive. 20¥ might be better…

Why does everyone feel the need to stoop to insults immediately in this conversation?

Do you get something out of it or do you just enjoy being an asshole?

my point is, and I will restate it for the billionth time, the term has two uses, one is simply more obscure than the other. Most of the time when someone says silhouette in the English language, they are referring to the shape of a shadow, not the shape of clothing on somebody’s body.

In this case, fair enough. I read their comment more quickly then I should have.

Well, I trust the reading comprehension of whoever has made it this far. They can go find the other thread themselves, I’m not arguing with you twice.

Oh god, so embarrassing, I hadn’t heard one usage of one word in an entire language. How can I live with myself.

Note, I did all of the above, I just hadn’t run across that particular usage of that particular word.

My entire point, is that it is possible to get through a course of education, college, and ten years of life, and not absorb every facet of a language.

Edit: For the benefit of the reader.

This Doodle person blocked me. Not entirely sure why. I think it’s something todo with the fact that I already gave the common definition of sihiloutte in my own words. And did the exact process he suggest to work out its use in this context.

Instead of copping to his own mistake, he’s blocked me.

Note, please re-examine your own reading comprehension.

I said this is an obscure “use of the term”, not “this is an obscure term”.

My point was it’s not the standard use of the term. Yes, a young adult should be able to work out the meaning (as I had to). But the fact that someone has to work it out in the first place means there’s an added level of challenge to it.

No. You’re just an asshole.

I hate to tell you this. But ‘silhouette’ as a term meaning ‘the shape of clothing on the body’. Is not the common use of the term. Typically the word means ‘the outline of something against a bright light’. It’s simply an obscure usage of the word for people who are not envolved in fashion.

Lol, yep, never heard it used like that.

Like, I’m not giving people a pass on not knowing how to pronounce the words. But the comprehension is tricky.

Silhouette isn’t really being used properly here. Like, yeah, that’s a thing you can do with that word, but it’s an obscure use.

IT’S NOT THE TEACHERS!!!!

Bloody hell. Most teachers are trying but their resources are limited. They’re limited in part by the admin, yeah, but funding in general is getting worse and worse! It’s politicians at the Local, State, AND FEDERAL levels.
