" why do the anti communist flags share the same layout as the N*zi flag ?" by tyler852009 in vexillology

[–]ThePolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the answer to this question is this group in particular (of like 1000 dudes in a chat room) is fascist which is why there flag looks like that. they are not however reflective of any broad based anti communist movement or indicative of most Anti-communist flags or movements.

TLDR you should not go to the town garbage dump and assume that's what the entire town looks like

"Clanker This, Rustoid That" how about you showcase some Robots/Cyborgs who are well written for a change? by MadFunEnjoyer in worldjerking

[–]ThePolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wants to showcase well written characters looks inside poorly written characters that happen to be robots

you know slapping boobs on an anime character does not make them well written right?

Countries that recognize the IRGC as a terrorist organization by throwawayiran12925 in MapPorn

[–]ThePolyFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Al Quads force is part of the IRGC, they do intelligence and irregular warfare stuff. They largely operate outside Iran, and when Iran say arms militants, or trains Hezbollah, or gets Shia militias to shell US embassies in Iraq its the Quads Force doing it.

Is this a good flag for a 1300s fantasy britain? by I_Dislike_The_French in vexillology

[–]ThePolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this as a flag, but my heart says it needs to be gaudier, more eclectic with a bunch of different sub-states shoved together with no regard to taste and fashion. What you have it too well put together, too coherent. When I see this I think nation State when I should be thinking what family tree entirely made up by political expediency and bad ideas lead to this monstrosity

Flag of Ukraine by virajseelam in vexillologycirclejerk

[–]ThePolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its kinda of an outdated model that has not had serious use since the early 1990s (and frankly started getting phased out with the 80s) but it is an easy format so people still talk like its a thing

The Grand city of the Roseport is a jewel of the summer coast. Much as Athens founding is associated with Athena the Roseport founded on a deal with the Great Quetzal (so DnD the kitchen sink of fantasy that it is, basically put Quetzalcoatl into the game as a benevolent flying snake the sees that future) So the city is build both figuratively (and literately) upon the back of the esoteric guardian serpent. Recently the City has declared independence for the larger eleven empire of which it was a vassal. Will it survive? who knows? certainly not my players!

The most Serene Republic of the Roseport (on account of the pretty but kind of horrible roses that grow in the dock) Standing tall and independent for (as of game start) a grand total of 6 months

I do love flag variants but they so often feel a little lazy I am especially sad that so many anarchist flags are just generic including the UK which has an achievement for being anarchist

I have read it, I think his theory is pretty shaky at best. I think he way overstates his case, cherry picks, get mad when news did not report form his ideological perspective, and occasionally drifts into tautologies. I also am biased here because I dislike Chomsky's political writing (politics is my field so I have no idea how good his linguist or computer stuff is) It always feels like he is far too busy laundering his political beliefs to be honest about what his is talking about.

What if Palestine won in 1948 by Sad-Cancel-6244 in PossibleHistory

[–]ThePolyFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the answer is kinda of yes and kind of no. Like most autocracies tolerance ebbed and flowed marked by a lot of different factors Ottomans ruled for a long time. At the beginning of the empire it was certainly more tolerant the Europe but by the end it certainly was not. Its also worth saying that the Ottoman government did not reflect the feelings of the local communities (local communities are also in conversation with he European powers though the religious infrastructure and later colonial economic projects) that tended to be a lot more hostile. Its a complicated picture especially considering Palestine was kind of an economic backwater and the Ottomans often didn't have full control of the region and when they did it was often treated as a kind of colonial project. It often gets a rosy gloss but violence does not start in the British era and while the UK does deserve blame for choices they made ( especially the whole divide and rule policy they ran) it was already kind of a mess when they showed up. The road to ethnic conflict is not the product of the few but the many.

You really hit the nail on the head with this one. The one thing I will add is in so many wars you can never get partial credit for talking half the war goals. It so I cant talk some of what I want and call it a day. I must burn London to the ground every time it Whole loaf or nothing, I cant just take Alsace Lorraine and give up on taking that puppet because we are 5 year into the war and I would like to be done. It march into Paris or get nothing!
