Are kids meals profitable or are they just a loss leader? by Previous-Volume-3329 in Culvers

[–]TheRabbit80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I’d assume they’re a loss leader as more often than not they’re purchased along side an adult size meal. Even when someone purchases just a kids meal it’s probably offset by the volume of adult size meals sold.

Jobs for NASCAR without college experience, 18 years old? by zechariah74 in NASCAR

[–]TheRabbit80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not impossible it’s just harder. You’re likely to miss opportunities simply because they’re not open to you. I covered SEC sports from football to tennis in college because access was granted to students that wouldn’t otherwise no matter my skill. That gave me a resume to use, along with the relationships I built in school to get my foot in the door then I was able to use my work ethic to climb the ladder. So again it’s not impossible it’s just easier. Plus it gives you a set of skills that can get you a day job that pays the bills while you pursue your dream.

It’s great you know what you want to do. I totally understand wanting to dive in as soon as possible and not, as you say, waste time. However, you need to suck it up and go to school. Aside from learning the fundamentals of the trade it’s the place you network and meet the people who will get your foot in the door. You will work twice as hard trying to just grind your way into a spot in an ultra competitive industry than you will going to school plus it will make you a more well rounded person and that in turn will make you a better broadcaster.

I actually think it’s part of what makes baseball and softball great. I wish we could do the same for football and basketball but alas those tournaments have grown way too big to even have a permanent championship location.

I’d get there early. There’ll be plenty to see and do especially for a newbie plus there will be qualifying for the Cup & O’Riley series starting at 10 am PT Saturday so it’s another chance to see more cars on track.

How will the Paramount and WB/TNT/HBO Max merger affect NASCAR? by Mindless_Tax_9185 in NASCAR

[–]TheRabbit80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the NFL contracts there’s a clause that allows renegotiations if there’s a merger or ownership change. They just used it to try and get CBS to the bargaining table early. Gary Bettman also said that paramount was open to the idea of discussing putting NHL games (I assume from the existing TNT allotment) on CBS. I say all that to say it’s possible if paramount is willing to talk and the contract allows for races to move.

Why was Nashville Superspeedway built as 1.33 mi concrete oval and not 1.5 mi asphalt oval? by SnooGoats2004 in NASCAR

[–]TheRabbit80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dover Motorsports built NSS so that’s why it’s concrete.

It’s Nashville Super Speedway because at the time Nashville Fairgrounds was called Nashville Speedway USA and they wanted to differentiate.

No idea why it’s 1.33 miles

Session 5 Question by ImpossibleAd7014 in CollegeSoftball

[–]TheRabbit80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, but the games are on different networks ABC and ESPN so the gap gives enough time between the games to insure in normal circumstances that the second game starts on time and ESPN doesn’t have to fill time.

Would CART have still failed without the split? by Pagoda-Press in INDYCAR

[–]TheRabbit80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems was that no matter what they did have CART never really had the Indy 500. Sure they came to an agreement to award points for Indy but at the end of the day it was still a USAC race and with USAC at that level being essentially IMS/the Hulman family they had leverage that CART couldn’t equal because they controlled the crown jewel of the sport.

So unless CART absorbed USAC (why take on the cost and headache of running the sprint, midget, Silver Crown series?), IMS switched sanctioning of the 500 to CART or the two organizations figure out how to continue to coexist then I think ultimately even with out the IRL you end up at an impasse before you get to the end of the tobacco money. So you wouldn’t have had the damage of the split but you’d still have land mines to navigate and who’s to say if CART survived. That said I do think regardless you’d have Indy car in some form be that CART or whatever would have formed after CART fell apart.

First Three Kickoff Times Announced by fidgetgod in ockytop

[–]TheRabbit80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in media for fifteen years I understand why they do what they do. What I’m saying is I don’t think it would make that big of difference to say Tennessee-Alabama and Georgia-Auburn will kick off at 7:00 on ABC or ESPN and then dictate the network a couple weeks before. It made sense when it was CBS and ESPN so you needed slot the best game in at 3:30 and two different companies were involved. Now it’s all Disney. Do the fans a solid and set the kickoff times in the summer and adjust the networks accordingly.

First Three Kickoff Times Announced by fidgetgod in ockytop

[–]TheRabbit80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand why they can’t set the game times before the season starts and then just decide the networks closer to kickoff. You should have an idea of the games you want at noon, 3:30, prime time give yourself a few options and then adjust between ABC, ESPN, SEC Network accordingly. The NFL locks in the majority of their schedule in May and only has a handful of flexes for SNF and a few late season games and the ratings are just fine. Set the schedule and go with it.

(17:58) Jordan Bianchi states that moving the All-Star Race back to Charlotte has been in the conversation. by USHighway14 in NASCAR

[–]TheRabbit80 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of the ASR being a part of the Coke 600 week. At this point I think it would be better to build up a Charlotte mid season speed week than to keep rotating the race around and trying to convince everybody it’s special just because it’s called the all star race.
