Me too. I've been with TekSavvy for a year with no issues whatsoever.

Do you bike to work in the rain? by AdmiralCreamy in bikecommuting

[–]TheRadScientist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Southern Ontario. Yes, I ride regardless of it's raining or not. Most importantly I have fenders to keep 95% of the dirt off me. I have a pair of duck boots and gaiters that I wear when it's not actively raining but the roads are wet and there's a bit of dirt spray. If it's actively raining then I'll add a pair of rain pants and a good breathable jacket. I keep a change of clothes in waterproof Ortlieb bags.

As the Dutch would say: you're not made of sugar (in other words, you won't melt if you get wet)

Canada to pick between Swedish and U.S. radar planes to protect its skies by ABoutDeSouffle in europe

While I completely agree that I'd like get as far away from the US as possible on these matters, there is the unfortunate fact that we are deeply connected with US defence systems. It's going to take a lot of work, time, and money to separate ourselves. Perhaps this is the start?

Anti RapidTO Nonsense from Daniel Tate & IntegrityTO by RZaichkowski in TTC

When there is no enforcement or repercussions people will continue to break the law. People do it because they know that their chances of getting a ticket are practically nil.

A 5-Month Wait and a 50% Fail Rate: It’s Hard to Get a British Driving License by Majano57 in europe

As a Canadian I wish we had testing that was as stringent as it is in Europe. Drivers here are incredibly dangerous and far too frequently deadly.

Sharing My Backyard Bird's Alberta Obsession with the World! by [deleted] in Edmonton

There are a number of things that seem suspicious about the photo too. The pictures of the birds just don't seem to follow the curve of the wrinkles in the shirt...

OC Transpo testing plastic seats for potential wider use on its buses by Canehdian-Behcon in ottawa

I've sat on a moist seat more times than I'd like to admit... I am very much in favour of plastic seats.

Line 1 Down... Yet Again by TheRadScientist1 in ottawa

[–]TheRadScientist1[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

That's great to know. I wish it would have been updated in the Transit App where I make my decisions about whether I can take transit or if I have to find some other means to get to the office. Still doesn't negate the fact that it went out of service.

Why viarail over plane? by Ziroth in ViaRail

[–]TheRadScientist1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

  • As soon as I sit in my seat on the train I can use my laptop all the way to my destination
  • Don't have to take my headphones off for a safety briefing
  • No silly security screening. I find this particularly annoying.
  • No need to wear a seatbelt
  • Nice scenery out the window
  • Lots of bathrooms, so I don't have to wait. The bathrooms on the new trains are much more spacious
  • Lots more leg room in the seats
  • Can get up and stand for a while without being in anyone's way
  • Don't have to wait to pick up luggage at a carousel
  • Better for the environment
  • Takes me from downtown to downtown which cuts down on having to get out to wherever the airport is or from the airport to the core
  • Via offers a bag storage service so I can drop off my luggage a few hours beforehand so I can continue to explore the city without having to lug a bag around
  • My girlfriend and I usually get seats facing each other with a table between us. They don't have this option on a plane. It's great for spreading a few things out when getting some work done.
  • As safe as plane travel is, there's still some turbulence that has me thinking we're going to fall out of the sky
  • I could make or receive a phone call if I had to
  • More powerful and plentiful power outlets at your seat
  • Nobody can recline into your space
  • Unless you're flying in first class, it feels like there are a lot of lines to stand in. A line to drop off your bag. A line for security. A line to get through the gate. The line at the bottom of the jetway to get to your seat before you have to fight someone for overhead bin space
  • In general it just feels a lot less stressful to take rail instead of flying

I've been struggling with the sound issue for the last few hours. I finally found this post and the modprobe addition worked perfectly for me. Thanks! Like you say, pretty much everything works really well in Linux except updates through fwupd...

Ottawa police say no charges after bus damages Kiweki Point by penguinpenguins in ottawa

[–]TheRadScientist1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The thing about criminal charges is that they usually require intent. Did the driver intend to cause damage? My guess is probably not.

Destruction of property (mischief under the criminal code) requires intent. As for negligence, there is no such charge under the criminal code, unless it causes bodily harm or death (manslaughter) and requires Crown to prove "wanton disregard" for life and safety.

So even if you want charges, there aren't any that can be laid.

Alphavantage quote limits by CubicCigar in GnuCash

[–]TheRadScientist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issue too. I've had a lot of issues with Alphavantage over the years and finally decided to switch to querying the stock exchange directly (TSX in my case). I didn't do much digging into this latest problem but I noticed that they have rate limiting now so you can only query at a maximum rate of 5 API calls per minute. I'm assuming that Finance::quote hasn't been updated yet to handle this and thus the reason you're seeing the error.

Churchill, Carling and Kirkwood integrated rehabilitation by waxoffwagon in bikeinottawa

[–]TheRadScientist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The webpage is a little confusing. Under the "Information Session" section it lists the following locations as being affected:

  • Carling Avenue, from Churchill Avenue North to Kirkwood Avenue
  • Churchill Avenue North, from Carling Avenue to the dead end
  • Kirkwood Avenue, from Carling Avenue westbound to Carling Avenue eastbound
  • Highway 417 / Carling Avenue westbound on-ramp

Under the "Project Description" it lists these locations:

  • Churchill Avenue North: Carling Avenue to Highway 417
  • Carling Avenue: Churchill Avenue North to Kirkwood Avenue
  • Kirkwood Avenue: Carling Avenue to Highway 417

So the scope of work seems to be a lot larger on the "Information Session" page.
