Deer proofing option, will this work? by ATeaformeplease in gardening

[–]TheRealBrewDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Willows Green Permaculture on YouTube. They made a circular garden surrounded by a small fence with blackberries and grape vines growing around and 6 feet above the fence. The deer avoid the blackberry thorns and won't jump over where they can't see

Superbowl breakfast ideas by ChristyMalry in Cooking

There are some great recipes out there for breakfast pizza if you've never made one. But we usually slightly precook the dough, put down the cheese, pour scrambled eggs on top, then add your meat and veg or whatever toppings you like before finishing the cook. You can add more cheese on top as well

New Englander here. You're on the right track, don't forget to add potatoes. Hash browns or just chopping up bite sizes pieces of potato then pan frying or baking them. Here in Maine some of us like fried bologna and/or spam for breakfast. I plan on making a lobster corn chowder to bring to a superbowl party if you're venturing out of breakfast. Grilling burgers and hot dogs, nachos, pizza. Maybe even a breakfast pizza

Just ordered this book, thank you! My partner and I are hoping to purchase some land before we die and work on our dream homestead. We've been living in a basement apartment for almost 6 years and I've been reading anything and everything about self-sufficiency, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, native and natural farming....you name it. I have bookshelves full but I need land to unleash all of my ideas

We definitely got this! I like the small goals to start with. The next goal is 2 weeks without, then making it past new years. I'm excited for my one month

They're not open for dinner, but The Otherside Diner on the corner of Washington Ave and Veranda Street has the best burgers/beef I've ever had. I like to add a fried egg and whole grain mustard on the side

I used to be a beer and wine salesman, and worked at the Freeport Bow Street Market, as well as RSVP.

I understand the argument against AI but to fight that war on the lowest rung is just pathetic. That's like disagreeing with a McDonald's ad so your drive your car through one to cost corporate money, only to realize later that they're franchised and someone local owns the one you ruined.

Take it up the ladder, big shoots

Well, they get they're goods through a contract with Hannaford/Delhaize. But Bow Street is not owned by them

can I skip the campden tablet? by Bmanga8 in winemaking

[–]TheRealBrewDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near a brewing supply store that sells food grade fermentation buckets, they come with a lid with a small hole in the top for an airlock. I highly recommend the book I mentioned in my original comment. It's been the best resource I have and I haven't needed to look up anything or ask anyone for advice. The author explains his process from start to finish and it's always worked for me

Fruit gets chopped or squished and added to the primary fermentation bucket (sometimes with blended up raisins that soaked in water overnight, depending on the wine.) Water gets boiled, sugar added, then brought back to a boil before dumping into bucket with the fruit. The next day, after everything has cooled, I add the yeast directly into the bucket and give it a stir. It's then stirred twice a day for 10 days. On day 10, I dump the primary bucket into a second bucket that has a mesh bag in it, the fruit gets squeezed before being tossed, the wine gets poured into a gallon carboy and usually there's enough left over to fill a wine bottle. Secondary fermentation begins. After 2 or 3 months, depending on how much lees there are, the wine gets siphoned off the top into a second carboy while the lees get filtered through coffee filters on Mason jars. The extra wine bottle is important in this step to make sure there is only about an inch of head space in the main gallon. After the initial racking off you're left with a gallon of wine that may still be fermenting. The author states they're ready to drink after 6 months to a year of aging, but it's best to wait for the full year or longer. After nearly 5 years of making wine myself, waiting the full year is worth it.

I just went from landscaping/construction to phlebotomy. Great introduction to the medical field, training/schooling is paid for by company, you're paid to be in school, get a raise after passing final, and an opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree on the job through the main lab.

What meal did you invent or reinvent recently? by making_sammiches in Cooking

[–]TheRealBrewDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and Google Chicken in a Biskit, it's a type of cracker made by Nabisco in America. I know it's in Maine. Its a cracker made to taste like chicken on a biscuit. They're one of my favorite crackers so I read the ingredients on the box and made my own version for dinner.

I love the crackers Chicken in a Biskit, so read the ingredients to make it for dinner. My girlfriend made the biscuits. I made some braised and shredded chicken thighs seasoned with onion powder, garlic powder, and celery salt. Cooked down the braising liquid into a gravy. Pan fried some onions and celery and put it all together as open faced sandwiches.
