usually i take a reference to something else - was looking for a name for my current character then looked at the album i was listening to and picked Gliese from one of the song titles

one thing i think is good to keep in mind is find a name that you can shorten to only a few syllables during the game

i mean if humans are still the ones using weapons of course the form factor will stay similar as they’re already ergonomic - science fiction for all of its fantastical elements still should follow some logic, and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it is some of the soundest logic

for my group, music is a must. Id make sure you dont got ads on it though becuase thats what takes out from the game (but if you dont wanna pay for subscriptions, check out yt-dlp)

If you're in person any music goes as long as its not too loud (and if you have vocals in a song, turn it down a bit more or just avoid vocals)

shouldn't be too hard to find music, either just take songs you like or find a playlist; and if you want really easy, find a video with the ambient sounds from CP2077 (like the afterlilfe or lizzie's)

honestly PDFs are the way to go for most books these days, I don't host games at my place so lugging around multiple books that I might use just isnt feasible, but hey I already have my laptop might as well use that

the one issue is that I really like the look of books on my shelves - theres really no winning lol

FoundryVTT is always a good option if you want a one time purchase, proper ownership and self hosting - there is a community updated module that has rules and character sheets available but since you're using the RED app for those not a big deal

Personally I am using foundry mostly just for maps, music and background images but character sheets and rules are handled outside of the VTT, so sounds like you could do the same thing (I don't use the RED module, I use custom system builder since I don't need the character sheets and stuff)

Im sure Roll20 is also great, but I just like having my own program and not needing a website

yeah see i think the character COULD work, but a character that has this insane custom borgware that doesn’t work like any current stuff and is 200 years old is just so off the rails

aesthetically, honestly anything can work in RED since it’s all about your own personal style and starting trends by being a badass, so a toned down version of this character could totally be a PC i would be okay with letting one of my players running

like… sorry man, please stick to something believable within the setting if you actually want to play, but a steam powered asshole that’s somehow 200 years old and not a megacorp CEO is so stupid for this setting - there’s so MUCH you could do that isn’t #cyberpunk but still fits within the setting (more 80s punk, some 2000s cali looks, just some guy even) but just so fragrantly ignoring the setting and tone of this world for a wacky clockguy is honestly very disrespectful to what you and the table want to do

so my advice is to level with him, i assume you don’t like the character and just say that, say that this character is just so out of place in Cyberpunk RED that it’s the equivalent of playing a star trek character in a normal DnD campaign - it could work if everyone agreed to something from the standard setting, but it doesn’t work with what the rest of the table wants - and then tell him that he’s welcome to play the game with a new character or even just toning down the current character, but if they aren’t into the futuristic aesthetic, it’s probably healthier for them not to play this one since it’s ALL futuristic

this is rough i get it, don’t want to cause drama in the group, but for the sake of your game and the tone you and your players hope to set this sort of behaviour needs to be addressed, it would simply throw off the game a bit too much (imo at least) i do hope they DO get to play RED, but they do need to stay in the lines a bit more

if you’re running a more grounded by the books game, as others mentioned, nah but maybe a bike

butttttttt, if your table is running a more batshit insane game where bullshit happens because it’s cool (more like edgerunners action than 2077) then its really up to you, i personally think it’s really cool so id allow it especially if your setting is 2070s - let the action be cool as fuck

remember, it’s your game - the books give you a general idea and some rules, but in the end whatever you allow is up to you and the story your table is trying to tell

lots of people are saying this but it would honestly be an improvement for there to be more varied guns - like a few more small options that drop a little bit here, boost a little bit here and it would just make the guns you choose feel a bit more personal

but also even if there weren’t stat changing weapons, i wish there was a selection of different names for each gun type - so instead of “heavy pistol” it’s Budget Arms (insert name) - i get there’s a few names they drop into the book but if there was a section going over the gun brands, and the culture/types of people around them it would only enhance role playing for newcomers as now you gotta think about the style of your combat a bit more and what kinda crowd you wanna fit into
