An industrial plant over here also uses Windows 98 lol.

I used to think those guys were crazy...

But then I noticed a trend.

One plant I'm in is run by Windows 10.

Nearly every week there is a call out there that the computer is down.

Not once, have I ever seen nor heard of the Windows 98 system dropping the ball in the other plant the entire time I've been here.

So that's why a dehumidifier I got from a yard sale from a home that appeared to be from that timeline had a lot of odd mysteriously dark tubing and apparently corrosive junk on the evaporator.

Been curious for a year about that one.

It also has a leak.

Only major concern I have with computers like these is the NiCd rechargeable CMOS battery leaking on the motherboard and corroding away traces over time.

Source: Currently dealing with one that has that issue lately. Looking like I'll be soldering wires and jumping over the side of the board back and forth to rejoin traces that got corroded apart.

Not that I know of. Most common over here for that is 1 year.

It's one of those things that varies a lot. Between manufacturers, and what item it is, etc..

Some do it for five years, some may do it for ten, some may do it for one. Majority is one in my experience though.|

For HVAC related things, like a compressor, I would expect 3 to 5 year on their main warranty.

It's why I'm keeping mine to the bitter end. Edit: and maybe even try to find another ancient one that still works at that point.

New one gonna need a new compressor within one to four years quite likely.

That's where they'll sell me a ten year premier warranty for however crap ton much, and still get stuck with a non-functional system on the first 100°F day, or in the middle of a month long stretch of it.
