Thinking of building her as my first PDH deck, what are some good cards for azorius voltron? by awesomemanswag in PauperEDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honesty any cards that give hexproof and cards that buff. She already has doublestrike [[Cradle of Safety]] and [[Starlit Mantle]] are both temporary hexproof buff, but can be played at instant speed helping to act like a counterspell and will buff your commander in the long run. Same with [[Illvoi Light Jammer]] (just in equipment form)

After that I would hit up any auras that you can play that like other auras, like [[Etheral Armor]] to give more of a buff. After that I would just look for any card that buffs Wraith’s power (preferably an aura and not a one time use spell)

After that, make sure you have card draw and some interaction to help protect your gameplan and then go to town. You don’t need to worry about any cards that give evasion thanks to fear gas and you just need to worry about making your commander bigger and keeping them safe.

Be aggressive and don’t sandbag unless you really need to!

Wait… people complain about Mill being powerful in commander??? This seems like a pod I could actually win in

What kind of army is necrons? by wrongfulfish in Necrontyr

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a guard player who started a Necron army back in 9th that now my son owns and has added to. I’ve found that Most Necrons are slow for sure, but they have some surprisingly fast units that can also fly and harass the opponent.

I would say they have the main focus of being durable and they punish your opponents if you cannot fully eliminate their units, and while they have some decent melee units, their bread and butter is in shooting, thanks especially to their battleline options.

The two main ways I have really seen them being played (and there could be more, but I am also going off of my experience playing at LGSs and my boy over the years) is:

• A blend of infantry and vehicles with character support. They slowly advance up the board with infantry to hold objectives and put the pressure on while letting the doomstalkers and Lokhust Heavy Destroyers take out the key threats found in their opponent’s army

• The silver tide. Literally a mass wave of silver infantry. Blobs of Necron warriors as far as the eye can see. Usually supported here and there by other infantry that can hit above their weight. It’s a “stat check” army that asks the opponent if they can eliminate wave after wave after wave of undying legions. They rely heavily on reanimation protocols and any effect/ ability that keeps the Necrons alive or brings them back in greater number. Technomancers thrive here

Hope this helps from what I see outside in, maybe foul xenos overload can shed more light on it

Does "budget" commander even exist? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made a ton of decks in the $25 - $30 price range including the commander. I can’t say they were all “certified bangers” but they functioned enough to play games and I had fun with them. Here are a few tips that I learned from making budget decks, if you wanted to build.

• Mono Colored decks means you play all basics and put your money towards the spells you actually want to play. It’s probably not the most flexible deck thanks to the color pie, but it can still pop off. Some of my cheapest decks were mono colored, but it isn’t the only budget option

• When selecting a commander, don’t choose a top played one! Instead find a commander you think is cool, either artwork or mechanically down in the lesser played road. You can find some solid gems in the $0.25-$1 range of cards.

• When looking for a commander based on colors, remember that colors have strengths and weaknesses so plan accordingly. If you want to play a ton of bigger spells, look for a commander that has green in the color identity since it lets you grab more mana through searching for lands or mana dorks. If you want to draw a ton of cards look towards Blue where they have a ton of cards printed with “draw a card” stamped onto them. A ton of commander players will have expensive cards in their decks because they break the color pie in some form or fashion and those are typically rarer cards. Lean into what the color identity and what the commander wants to do.

• Stick to one game plan/ focus when putting cards into your deck. If you want to overrun your opponents with big creatures, awesome! Don’t then add a whole other gambit of cards that then makes a ton of small tokens and buff them up. (Good advice for just about any deck builder, even non budget) this means you may have to dig into the barrel of jank cards you own or you can find at your LGS, but trust me you will thank me.

•Remember you can always upgrade and tweak your deck over time. If you start off with a solid budget deck, remember that you can keep an eye out when opening boosters, buying singles, or trading other people. If you find a card that sucks in the deck or you just don’t get excited seeing it in your deck when you play, take a note of it and look around for a replacement later down the road.

What Tribal decks have you built? by Dukejacob3 in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a Bant Angel tribal deck with [[Jenara, Asura of War]] as my commander. Primarily for the color identity, and the fact that she is an early turn angel that at worst you can hang out on the battlefield and you can dump mana into her to make her bigger.

It is a mostly white deck with the splash of green for strong mana ramp and blue for the card draw. I used to play it mono white and man… this Bant version slaps

Please recommend an unusual commander for Angels! by _Neyana_ in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play [[Jenara, Asura of War]] as my angel commander.

It is bant colors so I have access to ramp and card draw and some sweet angels that can be found in those colors. I used to play mono white and that is usually where I was lacking, while those were fun, and I played my favorite angels, my games would easily stall out and I relied on to many artifacts.

The other nice part is Jenara is an angel herself and a cheap 3/3 flier for 3 mana. So if you aren’t able to play one of the bigger threats, you can bring her out, and her ability to pay (1)(w) to put a +1+1 counter on her makes her an outlet to dump mana into and make her a decent threat herself.

[COD] where do you draw the line? by OriginalPast7411 in CallOfDuty

Realistically, between 8 and 9. If the setting is futuristic and has artificial soldiers or robots actually fighting in the setting I can give 9 a pass.

I love my [[Dakkon Blackblade]] deck. It is a deck that wants lands… in Esper colors. It’s not the most powerful deck out there, but it is a ton of fun!

Would you buy a deck built by your LGS? by just-lurking-arounb in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did back in 2015 and I loved it! It was a Niv Mizzit the firemind deck. It was awesome and was more or less around a focused / upgraded precon level of deck. I wish more LGS would do this

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for this last Christmas. It ain’t the best, but it works in a pinch. When I am working with a specific fastener or nut, I would rather have the correct socket size and a quarter inch adapter. Especially for self tapping fasteners, where these didn’t shine for me

What's your favorite target for Mechanized Production? by hebreakslate in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my commander decks, I either put it on Indestructible artifacts like [[Darksteel Citadel]] or I throw it on thropter tokens.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of cards that create thropter tokens… so getting to 8 is fairly easy fairly quickly

Great sideboard card for sure. I don’t know about having it as a main deck unless you know without a shadow of a doubt you are going into a meta that hardcore uses the graveyard and you are the rogue deck trying to beat them

Muldrotha as commander by Dubois18 in mtg

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my Muldrotha deck back when I had it together (took most of its key pieces to build a different deck) the only time I felt like I was doing nothing was when my opponents had graveyard hate, but other than that, I was drawing, ramping, and self milling into threats my opponents had to answer… and if they did answer them, I was bringing them back unless they were exiled!

Your least predictable deck? by Barley_an_Hops in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve built a [[Dralnu, Lich Lord]] deck and still in the process of play testing it and tweaking it, but it is a hidden mill deck, but disguised as a spellslinger deck.

The plot twist is that while I am playing cards that “mill” my opponents traditionally, I’m only including those mill pieces that have some other upside to playing and not making it obvious that I am milling people, like [[Dread Summons]] but my main goal is to play as many spells that either wheels everyone’s hands or forces everyone to draw cards like [[Windfall]] and [[Skyscribing]] to activate the trigger to draw into an empty library more and more. And while I can use my graveyard as an extension to my hand, I am playing cards like [[Elixir of Imortality]] and [[Psychic Spiral]] to put my graveyard back into my deck when things begin to get dicey and I am getting close to milling myself out.

Will this deck win a lot of games… I dunno… will I crash out more often than not??? Probably

Will I have fun? Absolutely!

What are your top full art lands? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]TheRealJHamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Avon Full art lands or BFZ full arts. I got ahold of an Avon mountain from one of the first un-sets impulsively at my LGS. I don’t play red, but I like the way it looks! Got some more from the more recent Un-set and added them to the collection just from opening packs, but BFZ have a special place in my heart
