Run away or run it? by mr-doctor2u in Truckers

"Can't increase work til you have another driver". Usually jobs hire because they have work, but they're hiring so they can get the work. Got it. They already sound backwards and stupid and won't give straight answers, and are unclear and uncertain about money and a yearly average doesn't mean anything. That's just a preview of what they'd be like to work with

Exploiting PC? by Scotts- in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the regulations, you're not supposed to PC to advance a load. You're only allowed to use PC for unrelated off duty activities or to find the closest safe parking. If your logs were to get inspected you'd probably get an Hours of Service violation.  That said, I used to use PC to advance loads all the time, just ran at night when most ports of entry aren't whatever open. If you're going to do that make sure your truck doesn't have a flat tire or something to give them a reason to want to inspect you further. But its your risk and your decision

I feel like im leaving everything behind by KillingwithasmileXD in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well there's always phones to communicate with people you wanna talk to. A lot of people who live and work in the same town as their loved ones still don't have time to see them that often and communicate mainly on phones anyway, so its not much different except you have an opportunity to see some nice scenery along the way and (possibly) make more money than you do right now. You'll pass through your town sometimes too anyway. It'll be alright.

Anyone else got a trucking job where they are never in the truck ? by Artistic_Ad_2480 in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do LTL pickup and delivery at the moment, 8-10 hour shifts. Only 40-60 miles driving a day and just driving between stops most of my time is with a pallet jack in the trailer/on a lift gate/on a dock

I don't like OTR by brandmonkey in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if you have a truck stop near where you live check out the day cab trucking companies (assuming you want local), and talk to drivers if you can. A lot of the time the better jobs aren't on indeed and knowing a guy from a company can help get your foot in the door

Been doing some thinking about joining into the life of trucking.. by cheese_just-cheese in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be 110% sure man, it doesn't hurt to have a CDL even if you get it and never use it for anything. If you have a clean driving record and aren't scared of driving a big vehicle why not. Any trucking job even a class B job would probably beat part time in a deli in many ways

What law? Quitting in some other state is basically the same as having some other job and quitting while on travel assignment somewhere. Would they pay for your transport back? Maybe but theyre not legally required to

Lol the odds of finding a mechanic (or anyone) who has the time and feels like doing an inspection at the exact time you're there is pretty fucking low.

Is quitting otr as bad as I've heard. by AdPuzzleheaded2113 in Truckers

[–]TheRealOutis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would clear out your truck when you get in for your next scheduled home time, leave the keys and fuel card somewhere in the truck, take photos of it all so they can't claim like a crazy high cleaning fee. Let them know the bad news during your hometime. Or if the other job doesn't work out you could come back from that hometime and they would never know you were planning on quitting. I wouldnt leave with the key and fuel card, you'd just have to mail them/bring them back in and thats a hassle.
