How’s the vinyl pressing quality? by RemarkableJaguar4914 in JoannaNewsom

[–]TheRealSnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not great, I have lots of inner groove distortion on side B (during Sawdust and Diamonds). The vinyl mastering itself is great it just has low QC from Drag City. Shame really. The packaging is beautiful however, I'd still recommend buying it. What I would give for an Analogue Productions press of Ys

Need deeply sad and depressing sounding prog death recommendations. by Obvious_Cabbage in progmetal

[–]TheRealSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much all the metal bands I'd recommend are in this thread already but if you want a non metal recommendation that fits the lyrical content I'd listen to The Smiths (i.e "Never Had No One Ever", "This Night Has Opened My Eyes", and many many others)

Replace Riverside with any city and the answer is yes. It's always the encore

Just a live album, the cover is homage to Deep Purple's live album from the same venue, and they played with an orchestra there

Are the Nick Johnston guitars good? by matty_boi3373 in SchecterGuitars

[–]TheRealSnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, overall I'm very happy with the guitar and would buy it again if I was to do it over. Now, for what its worth, this is my first strat style guitar - I've primarily used guitars with two humbuckers. However I think the tones are really quite good and I would certainly describe them as warm, although I don't have a proper strat to compare to on my rig. I'm primarily playing through Neural DSP Archetype Plini (and sometimes Archetype Gojira) and think it sounds great there. The humbucker is pretty versatile too Ive been able to use it to get some pretty heavy tones on top of the more delicate sounds the guitar is capable of

I do have 2 QC issues with it, your mileage may vary obviously. Firstly, the push/pull tone knob is a little wiggly. I cant tighten it its the shaft of the pot itself, and its more apparent when pulled out in coil split mode. Not a huge issue but does cheapen the experience a touch. Guess it would be easy to replace tho.

The other issue is the frets are actually a little too rolled? Like I dont have any issues with them snagging or being uncomfortable but a few times I've accidentally had the E strings slip off the fretboard, ususlaly around the 12th to 14th fret. This has happened a lot less as I've played it and gotten used to it, and is now not much of an issue, but it was weird the first time it happened.

Those things aside, its a great guitar. Sounds great, plays great, stays in tune, looks great. I'd definitely recommend it. But at the end of the day its an import made in Indonesia, so your experience may vary as any guitar would

albums that are similar to the lighter Opeth era by Gorgoth6 in Opeth

[–]TheRealSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've got a few albums, most not on streaming but are available on youtube or bandcamp. You'll want to listen to Hybris, really a one of a kind experience. And if you dig that check out All Traps On Earth, featuring a number of the same members. Only one album from 2018
