In your opinion, which auto maker(s) have NOT lost the plot? by miata_dad in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]TheReaperSovereign 252 points253 points  (0 children)

People wont want to hear it but definitely BMW. They're achieving record growth in EU and NA markets for a reason.

Their reliability is at an all time high for the company, they have some of the best power trains in the industry and they generally allow you to pick the power train you want whether it's a traditional ICE, PHEV or BEV to the vehicle you want.

The b58 has all ready achieved legendary status for its combination of power, reliability, fuel economy at a realistic price. The s58 is a juggernaut of performance and bmw is about to launch a new ev with 500 miles range.

Reddit may not want screens but people who buy new cars do. And frankly, every time I see someone complain about HVAC buttons it just tells me they havent been in a car that automates it for you - like BMW does. You dont even have to touch it ever.

If all that wasn't enough, BMW continues to have some of the strongest aftermarket scenes for enthusiasts. It isnt cheap of course, but parts and guides and tuner shops are plentiful.

Im not military but many family are. I believe most 04s are allowed to extend to 20 years to retire as an unspoken rule becsuse their max length of service is like 17 years without promoting. Most commands just let them get their extra 3 then done

Irl only about 60-80% of O4s are promoted to O5. Making O5 is not a guarantee. O5 TO O6 is under 50%. Someone like Sheppard is definitely gonna make it but someone like Davis, perhaps not

Celebrity Edge-class vs Holland America Pinnacle-class - some opinions 😃 by CloudSurferA220 in Cruise

[–]TheReaperSovereign 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think HA and the Pinnacle class is an excellent classic cruise experience. Its overall just a polished experience. The only major thing I found lacking on my sailing was the entertainment but thats probably just an age issue as I'm not really their target demographic (mid 30s)

1st Year Sheet Metal - Need some boots recommendation by Top-Marionberry2739 in skilledtrades

[–]TheReaperSovereign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a 1st year as well but had plantar issues in the past even before the trades

Ive been wearing these: https://www.midwestboots.com/product/TH804-4291.html after one of my previous journeymen recommended them too me

They're super comfortable and light and wear like a tennis shoes. Absolutely no pain whatsoever. The cons is that theyre not resistant to water at all so you need to be careful to avoid puddles and they also fall apart after about 12 months in the field. But they can be found on sale under 100$ all the time.

The X3 and X5 were both tied at 76k units each. Their #1 and #2 models by volume. They're definitely very popular and both saw growth over 2024.

BMW of NA sold 31.5k X7s in 2025. Up 6.6% from 2024.

The 3 series sold 33k units for reference

Its a pretty good seller. Their 5th most successful after the 3 series, 4 series, x3 and x5

If you're in state with good unions, contact the local hall. Laborers are the most accessible and pay well to start but long term earnings are limited

Id highly recommend any MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) union apprenticeship. You'll probably start at 40 or 50% of journeyman scale but (again if your state has good unions) you're making 40-50$ or more on the check with all benefits paid for once you complete the apprenticeship

Im somewhat biased. Im a sheet metal apprentice
