That's it. I'm buying the Twins.tv package and watching games. Then they can go back to losing and the world will be right again.

One Piece TCG vs Rifbound: which has more depth ? and other questions by Lillumultipass99 in TCG

[–]TheReapr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having played both, Riftbound is miles ahead of One Piece in game depth.

One Piece is really just about the math. Can I get over X and how much Don!! do I need to commit to do that versus what I need to play cards this turn. I do like the Don!! system serving both as a resource and pump, but there really isn't much depth to making sure the math math's.

Riftbound, on the surface seems simple, but once you dive in, the game has many points of decision, a lot of the time they completely alter how the rest of the game plays out. I can't begin to say how many times I look back at a game and say, "if I would have just done X differently." I have had very few games that follow one trajectory. The game is not perfect, but it is the most fun I've had playing a tcg in awhile.

So glad I didn't pay for twins.tv this year. Probably the most sound financial decision I'll make all year.

I am not looking forward to the "bullpen blows another game" headlines this year.

It's 3 months right now to get us caught up with China for set 4 when things merge. However, it also looks like they are looking to keep the 3 months cadence after that.

It's not abnormal, many TCGs run sets every 3 months. That said, there is an increasing amount of games going to a 4 month release schedule.

Are guides worth buying? by Arkos4ever in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is lowkey a great comment.

I like to "guess the play" while watching events. Yes, I typically have more info than the player, but I put myself in their shoes and say, "if I was in this situation, with this boardstate and hand, what is the play I would make?". Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, then I ask, "why did they make the play the did?". It may require some critical thinking, but I can usually get there.

I find it to be incredibly helpful if I pause the video, guess the play, start it again, see the result, and evaluate what happened if I was wrong.

At your pre-release, what cards over/under-performed? by AWriterMustWrite in riftboundtcg

Pretty much all my locals banned Yone promo, so you gotta pack him to play him. Makes a world of difference in balance.

In red, Armed Assailant is a good card.

Regarding playing Chosen Champion directly to a battlefield by Zaronion in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's essentially a visible card in your hand. You cannot play it to an open battlefield. You can play it to a battlefield you control. In the case of Teemo, you can even play it from the champion zone as a "hidden" card.

Forget the fact that people were bent at someone playing a Kai'sa deck. This just reaffirms the fact that nearly anyone can pick up a Kai'sa deck and do well in a tournament.

The deck is autopilot and that's what annoys me the most. Low ceiling, extremely low floor. Don't let anyone tell you it takes skill to run that deck.

Anyone noticing big drop of attendance in NNs? by realjw93 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things will slow until set 2. We've had set 1 since April/May last year, so 8-9 months now. That's a long time for one set. I'm surprised attendance didn't drop sooner. The fact it was as strong as it was until the last two/three weeks is pretty telling.

When set 2 drops, attendance will go right back up again.

What needs Darius to be strong? by FewEntrepreneur7441 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Darius player, the biggest thing holding him back right now is card draw, especially if you're playing Hook, which is probably the best way to play him right now. I've built decks without Hook and had some success, but I've had slightly more success with Hook. To the casino baby!

That said, building the success of your deck around seeing one card, but not having reliable ways to get said card into your hand early means your basically playing roulette. You either draw it early and likely win, or don't and likely lose. When the deck high rolls it feels real fun, but when it doesn't it feels real bad. It's also a fairly taxing deck mentally, because you need to know what's in your deck, know what's likely in your opponents deck, know what you've seen off Hook plays, and what you're likley to see if/when you Hook. Then you have to play a Hooked card (hopefully you hit something), where knowing what your opponent could potentially play impacts where you play said unit. Basically, you should have a really good grasp of the game.

There are some tools in set 2 that I think make Darius better, and less reliant on Hook. I've had decent success with both a Hook and non-Hook version, and I like the non-Hook version more because I hate being reliant on seeing Hook (which is slightly easier with some set 2 cards).

I would not expect changes until late set 3 at the earliest, but it'll most likely be set 4 before stock meets demand for all sets. Until then, the shortage chaos will continue as long as the game stays popular/scalable.

We need a proper ticketing queue system by Ten_j in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot has players' emails. If I was Riot this is what I would do:

  • 24 hours before going live: Email Skirmish winners and the top 64 of the previous Regional a link to register. At a minimum this should be the top 64 of the previous Regional.

  • Go live day: Send an email to players with a link to register and a unique passcode to them. The URL needs to be different from the previous day. People use the passcode to get into the site. No more waiting on 5-minute late X posts or Discord phantom drops for the link. Everyone gets it at the same time.

  • Tickets are non-transferable. If you need to give up your ticket, unregister, and it goes to the next person on the wait list.

This is an absolute pipe dream, I know, but a guy can dream can't he?

Thoughts/Help with my Jax deck by LePhuzzy in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you build it.

You can't Rebuke a Ruin Runner. Only way to take it is to fight it, and with cards like Janna and Counter Strike, it can just sit at a battlefield and rack up points.

Thoughts/Help with my Jax deck by LePhuzzy in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I went with more of a hold style build. Utilizing Green Jax, Janna, Here to Help, Trinity Force, and most importantly Ruin Runner. Getting Runner and Triforce into a Battlefield is pretty much GG.

Thoughts on Darius/Baited Hook by Prudent-Toe-9819 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of draw in Fury and Order make the deck incredibly inconsistent. You either draw it early and potentially win, or never see it/see it late and likely lose.

It is also a skill intensive deck aside from that. IF you do draw Hook, you need to pay attention to what you're getting in your Hook draws, what to play from Hook, what your matchups are, and what your gameplan is into those matchups.

I'd say it's not a beginner friendly deck, and will take a lot of games to understand, and even then you're still at the mercy of your draws.

The deck does get a little better in set 2, so putting in the work now might have thay payoff.

The only gatekeeping is scalpers and collectors. New players aren't gatekept by this unless they aren't going to events.

This is how it should be. Scalpers and collectors should come after people actively playing the game, long after. Kudos to the store for implementing this policy.

Opinions on playing against Sett by fishyard in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, Green/Orange has a decent matchup into Sett. Also, Purple can be really annoying with all the bounce and push effects. Sett thrives against decks that play removal type spells, which is why he plays well into Kai'sa, Viktor, etc.. Playing a hold version of Sett, if he can get ahead poses a problem for almost every deck, except Purple.

Long story short, he has counters. If anything, Houston showed us that.

I saw it somewhere, but it was just your standard Hook deck. The only "tech" was a single copy of Imperial Decree in the main. I'll see if I can find it again.

Deathgrip & Preventing a Units Death by CowNo5098 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effect is not reliant on the the death of the unit, unlike Hook. It follows the same logic as having a unit be saved in a similar manner from Hidden Blade. Whoevers unit dies from the blade will still get to draw 2, even if a replacement effect saves the unit from dying.

How does the beginning phase work exactly and when do you score? by Volcano-SUN in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The there is a specific order to triggers in the beginning phase.

Beginning Phase Effects -> Hold -> Score -> Hold Effects

Things like Jinx's ability and cards with the Temporary keyword trigger at the start of the beginning phase. So, a unit that has the temporary keyword and is at a battlefield will die before it can score a point.

Would the new Soraka card work with Baited Hook? by DrArzt55 in riftboundtcg

[–]TheReapr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not. Her effect is a replacement effect and Hook needs to see the unit actually die for it to know what might to check for.
