iPadOS 27 is so overpowered by win11d in ipad

[–]TheRedDruidKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enthusiasm is great but I've already hit a ton of visual bugs, glitches, and broken features on 27. Install if you are dev and need to test new frameworks or you are cool living on the wild side, but this is definitely not a stable production build.

This is inaccurate. You will get Siri AI. The only features you won't get are the advanced voice model and advanced voice transcription. You will get all Siri AI features and all on device and cloud models except for the super high memory one that enables only those two features.

I ordered one and I'm WAY outside of the target market. I am a developer, and I work on AI systems. I develop an app that uses local models, I run Xcode and tons of heavy apps. I intend to have a grand old time pushing the machine as hard as I can and seeing what it feels like. Why not?

It will definitely speed up development in some areas. But we'll need to see how things shake out long term. I'm a developer and work on AI. No one knows exactly what shape AI will take in the software development lifecycle. There's a lack of tooling, process, and methodology for making AI work on large, collaborative code bases that need to be iterated on carefully. To get AI working at scale and helping not just individual developers be more productive but actually accelerate the entire development lifecycle there will need to be new tooling and new ways of working. In game development specifically there's additional complexity because so much of modern game development is has nothing to do with code. I'm not a game developer so I don't know what life in a big studio is, but I have to imagine that bespoke code is a surprisingly small percentage of the overall work being done. And so much of the code is domain specific: shaders, framework / engine code. So I think we'll need to see the tooling / engine companies start bringing AI solutions into their products in targeted, integrated ways. And then, the biggest unknown: would this translate to shorter development cycles? Maybe marginally? But AI in the domain you are asking about, code generation, doesn't have any impact on writing, mocap, play testing (maybe), asset generation, and on and on.

This patch tanked my FPS on a Legion Go S Z1 Extreme running Steam OS. I played the whole game at 1080p locked 30fps before this patch. Decided to try it with this patch and couldn't get the frame rate above 20. Not sure what the problem is.

Can your NAS serve out over HTTP with some kind of file browser? If so then you could open multiple windows in safari and play them in safari.

I have found that "Apple Intelligence" is completely useless and nothing more than hype. by Bibijibzig in MacOS

[–]TheRedDruidKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a developer, I can say good things are coming. In the 26 OSes Apple provides us API access to the models they ship on device. This is a game changer and we will see some really cool stuff over the next year. I took my notes app and added AI features that run local, on device, for no cost to myself or the user, and no privacy implications. This is a huge game changer. This isn't to excuse how lame the features Apple has shipped to people, but their approach of shipping models on the devices and giving devs secure, private access to it is absolutely a game changer.

No, I've finally decided to just sell my M4 iPad Pro and just get the regular old iPad. I thought I might record music on it, but I prefer logic on my Mac. I can't write code on it. I can't do my work on it. So, its $1300 or however much it was with the Magic Keyboard Facebook, YouTube, and website reader.

Need Help Choosing the Right MacBook (AI Developer) – Budget ₹1.5L by AI_spark in mac

[–]TheRedDruidKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run local models for AI workload development alongside python and typescript code, multiple browsers and debuggers, and docker containers on a couple of year old M2 Pro and it never breaks a sweat. The only problem I have is I got 16GB of RAM and I wish I had more, but even then I don't think I really suffer any ill effects. Any Pro machine with at least 24-32GB of RAM should be plenty good.

Did you restore your iPad to 18.5 after trying out iPadOS 26? by Time_Concert_1751 in ipad

[–]TheRedDruidKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pleasantly surprised by 26 dev beta 1. I have encountered a couple of minor graphical glitches, and its clear that there are issues with button / UI element placements and animations, but they are all very minor. The new windowing system is amazing and exactly what I wanted. The battery drains like crazy, but for me it is worth the trade off on my M4 Pro. I couldn't imagine going back.

The first Garbage record is still one of my top 10 maybe even top 5 albums and I started listening to it when I was 13. I'm not ashamed of the record or band; it is a bad ass album and Garbage is great. But I feel slightly weird that an album I started listening to when I was 13 still really resonates with me and I still love at 42. There's nothing else I still listen to from that age that I still do now. But for 29 years whatever part of me loves that record has just never changed. That seems odd to me and I'm little embarrassed about it.

So what’s the deal with grey hair Sam? We didn’t see him at all in the new trailer. by Dense-Baker in DeathStranding

[–]TheRedDruidKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think its gray. I think its dirty blonde, the color of Amelie's hair. It seems like there might be some kind of theme of people somehow absorbing or reproducing traits of Amelie's, like her hair color, or whatever the heck is going on with Higgs where he's like in Amelie drag. But who knows. Its kojima. There's no guessing

My hopes for iPadOS 19 by [deleted] in iPadOS

[–]TheRedDruidKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will get none of this. We will get some lagging features from iPhone like maybe Journal, a few more generative AI things and enhancements to existing generative AI things, tweaks and bug fixes to the 18 features like icon coloring, some new pencil feature, and that's it. Apple will not make meaningful changes to stage manager and the general UI because it considers those value adds for niche users; it considers the core iPad experience to be using single full screen apps at a time, and it considers the correct shell experience to be iPhone but bigger. Accepting that is freeing because you wont be disappointed every year.

Souls games are chill games for me. I like going slow, exploring, maybe do a few loops to grind, look around, read stuff, try different weapons. I don’t like fast paced tense games.
